  1. I'm going and taking 4 others with me. Thinking of taking the train, which I have never done when I have gone in the past.
  2. Everything you say is reasonable. As it will be if this list doesn't make it and you get out your retrospectoscope and diagnose, yet again, why it is perfectly reasonable that we failed... yet again....
  3. But come on, it would be funny. And quite a ride!
  4. I agree with everything you're saying, but I do think most successful clubs will ensure that their clubs understand what is required from the coach to maintain the support of the Board. Look at Carlton this year as an example. At the very least, I don't think the club has particularly had the guts to state when they think we should be playing finals/winning premierships, other than the aspirational statement to be the most dominant side of this decade.
  5. I do agree that, if there are benchmarks, the club hasn't seen fit to inform its members. We have no idea (except for Jimmy's 10 wins comment earlier in the year) what key areas the club needs fulfilled in order to consider that Bailey is doing his job effectively. I think that's disappointing. Given that we had a full need and mandate to bottom out, it also makes is very hard to judge Dean. I certainly think it has to be a concern that we have not demonstrated an ability to pinch many games against good sides or really be competitive against good sides (Collingwood excepted - but I do not Malthouse's patronising comments about it being our GF), and also our form this year against the ordinary sides (St Kilda at that time, NM, Bulldogs, etc....) and the sheer non-competitiveness of some of our losses (WC, Hawks for example) make it difficult to say that Bailey is doing a great job. It doesn't help his cause that we do not have stellar assistant coaches, we massively underinvest in our football department spend and that there are some undermining activities in the background, mind you!
  6. And they are expensive. $53 for a seat, less (20 or 30) for standing room. And the seats are in the pocket, where it is very hard to see the other side of the ground from. With standing room, you have to get there very early to get a reasonable spot.
  7. I think there is a hell of a lot of delusion if people seriously think that interview wasn't revealing, and if people think that interview progressed the interests of the MFC, they need to think about what Green said. He could have said the club was united, he could have moved on a lot quicker on the McDonald issue, he could have sold more optimism. He didn't.
  8. No I don't think that's it. I think it's more that CC is in a non-football role but having been a coach and having a passion for the club, it's hard for him to stay out. Mind you, that's only one of the issues.
  9. A transcript won't do it justice. I felt very sorry for Greeny. It's not his fault he's not a leader, and it's not his fault that the management meddles in football affairs.
  10. Who else saw Greeny on the couch? Firstly, poor Greeny is a shocking media performer. More importantly, listening carefully to some of his answers and reading his body language (and his bright red neck), it is absolutely clear that: 1. There is tension between club management and players - Green did not deny it when presented with this week's Herald Sun story, and in fact confirmed it when he stated that there was heated debate. He also said all the PC things about pulling in the same direction, but blind Freddy can see there's problems. 2. He, and the club, are absolutely filthy about James McDonald. Green's reaction was cringeworthy when asked - had to feel for him. He was desperately trying to maintain the party line, but everything he was saying and doing belied it. Eventually he giggled, and Paul Roos felt sorry for him and finished his sentence off!!! So, 18 rounds in to the next season, and we have some serious issues. Nothing new from my perspective, though many of those here have their heads up their backsides....
  11. Wow! Ok! I am fairly shocked at the lack of love. He leaves in pretty high regard. It goes to show, if you don't win a premiership in this business, you don't get rated!
  12. It's neither acceptable or unacceptable. It just is.
  13. Neil Craig resigned as coach of Adelaide, effective immediately. Given that Roos and Malthouse won't end up at Melbourne, it appears to me that Bailey will keep his job unless something left field happens. Assuming Craig wants to senior coach again (and he has said he would stay at Adelaide, so that's an "if"), would people here like him? I would. I think he is an innovator, honest, great communicator, people manager and would be a really good fit for us.
  14. You have to be kidding. I can think of twice all day where Frawley was beaten. On one of those occasions, he would rightly have expected Col Garland to give him a chop out. Disinterested? Ah, no. And Buddy is no Michael Newton.
  15. No seriously, I don't think I'm hard at all. The fact is, most times Hawks had a run on to advantage, they ended up kicking to advantage and getting a result. Green had 10m on Gibson, but at the time Dunn kicked it, he had 1m on him because he was getting very close to the goalsquare. I actually think Dunn held on to the ball because he was half thinking about taking a shot, and it was a poor outcome for the advantage we had.
  16. HAHA. That's why Hawthorn picked up Cheney. They knew a redhead was their missing ingredient. Why do they pay list managers so much when they could just pick up a crap redhead?
  17. I remember what you're talking about. Dunn took too long to get the ball off to Green, because he took a bounce and lowered his eyes for 1 - 2 secs. The gap between Green and Gibson had closed by then. So yes he has a nice kick, but there in the same play were his biggest strength and one of his deficiencies. The fact of the matter is, he has played enough games to prove he's not up to it, and I reckon only 2 - 4 sides in the comp would be interested in him being on their list.
  18. I really think that this is an unhelpful and immature way of looking at the issue. Firstly, the MFC is a sports team. Not a military, not a workplace, but a sports team. The level of passion people have towards sport, and then towards their team, is an entirely discretionary and personal thing. Some people think it's admirable to go every week and end up disappointed, other people think it's a stupid way to spend your life. I happen to be forking up $53/seat and taking a car full of people to Geelong this week, so I think it's clear which side I am personally on. But if people don't want to contribute financially, then good luck to them, that's their choice. If they would rather spend their money on cancer research, or plasma TV's, that's also their choice. If they would rather spend the time with family than watch our team deliver another pathetic performance, I can't blame them. And in fact, do people really think that blaming them is useful? Because it's not the way the club thinks. Like it or lump it, we have less supporters than all clubs but North (and maybe dogs?). We convert more supporters to members than any other club in the AFL. We have a large contingency of MCC members, a lot of whom now purchase a separate MFC membership that gives them very little, and is essentially a donation. So I think that the glass is half full or half empty. In any event, it's just sport to a lot of people, and sport is a competing subset of life, not life itself. I can't believe I just wrote that! It's not what I personally believe at all!!!!
  19. I couldn't agree more. When things weren't going well, our next big power forward gets thrown back. And so begins and ends plan B. The delivery into the forward line was appalling, the forwards were playing too high in any event, and I cannot think of one occasion all game where we pressured their exit from our forward 50 and caused a turnover. Sylvia wasn't getting into it, why not put him forward and ask him to harass? Very poor coaching display. But of course it's not just Bailey. The players have to take some responsibility too. Petterd's miss in the 2rd when we were just hanging in there was bad, the turnovers, the usual culprits that refuse to run and chase, etc...
  20. Not in hindsight, but even before the game, I thought team selection and balance was very wrong. I don't think Bate and Dunn both go in the same side. Period. It means too many easy rebounds for the opposition. It also meant Watts was playing a strange role all day. Petterd isn't a half back. We had no rebound out of defence, and we clearly didn't switch the ball and spread well at all.

    CYCLING

I don't get it. Is tonight the last night? What time is it on from/till?
  22. Nope we won't. Sorry!
  23. Moloney is making a massive tilt at the captaincy for next year. I am thinking he might get there! Absolute legend. Uncomplicated leader.

    Monfries

How do they justify the fact he has not been charged for staging?
  25. Well they don't pay him enough to know more....
