  1. I heard one of the leading defamation QCs in Australia speak on defamation law a few years ago. His theme was this: If you are thinking about suing for defamation, sit down, have a nice whiskey and come up with a better idea. PS a company cannot be defamed, only a person.
  2. Spot on post. If the AFL act, this is exactly what is going on. The same actions, with "worse" intent (or poor execution of same intent!).
  3. He said what yesterday? It is stated in the article that he said yesterday essentially what he had already put in his book. Is he not meant to stand by what he put in his book when presumably he is asked?
  4. Oy morons.... back off and read the story before calling someone a scumbag! He put a comment in his biography of Jurrah, which was released a long time ago. He did not accuse anyone of anything. Put down the keyboard. Read the story
  5. The more I hear, including the Herald Sun this morning, the more I think two things: 1. We were doing what the system let us do and we made a legitimate strategic decision based on the options before us and the rules in place. Whether that was a good strategic decision... Well Eddie admitted he would have done it, so it's at least not unreasonable. 2. We were doing it in a more amateurish fashion. We should not get "done" for tanking, because if you look at the rule (Caro should do that some time) there is not only no evidence I have heard that we breached it, there is positive evidence to the contrary. If we do get penalised, it will only be because of the way our club is managed. The lack of leadership, poor decisions, churning and burning of ex-employees, loose lips and unprofessional conduct. Where there's smoke, there's fire. 186 was a revolt, sponsors, officials and players are coming forward and the investigation is clearly continuing when the AFL has a clear agenda to deny and put it to bed. McLardy is right to want natural justice. In a court of law, looking at the rules, I don't think we could be found guilty. But in the court of public opinion, we are copping a dose of our own amateurism.
  6. Of course the folly of your argument is that, whether other clubs say it better, they were doing exactly what we were doing. They were coaching for their next premiership. So a club that doesn't actually say the words "lose" but talks about being "strategically positioned for the draft" is guilty of nothing, but a club that wants to be less competitive so as to attract a priority pick is guilty of grievous crimes? Come on. It's exactly the same things, different words. If we have been dumb enough to be that corporate stupid to use "tanking" language in a meeting with 10 people, then we are a stupid club. It wouldn't surprise me, because I think we took the bottom out thing way too far, and it was indicative of a poor culture.
  7. "Dig up, stupid" - Chief Wiggum A club survives on the premise of balancing the books. Survivial is the number 1 priority for most, which means a sustainable business. Not winning football. You can't just "decide" to play good football. It all starts with a solid administration and financial position.
  8. Your quotes paint you as an absolute simpleton. In any other business, you don't have 18 uneven clubs competing for one thing, with an unequal base. In a business environment, you have a market. Yes, you have competition, but you don't have to be the "one". You also have fairly unfettered power to make decisions in private business. A football club is totally different. There's a salary cap, equalisation policies and far less control over the only thing that matters to most - 2 hours per week for 22 weeks - than is usual in business. You would have to be blind not to see some of the failures of our leadership. But you would have to be blind and dumb not to see some of the enormous successes of our corporate leadership in the past 5 - 7 years.
  9. My Suzuki doesn't drive like a Kia.... That is bad!
  10. That WCE would trade Mitch Brown for Morton - that's a joke!
  11. I might be wrong, but I don't think they undergo surgery - I think it's just absolute rest and no weight bearing, and hope for the best.
  12. I hate to say this, I really do, but I understand that a significant number of footballers who sustain his injury never play again, and of those that do, none are the same. So yeh, I think there is no doubt we would have some concerns.
  13. Agree with that. We hardly have any accumulators. I am not saying Gys is the answer, because I haven't seen enough hunger or spread, but we could definitely have more accumulators.
  14. Lost me when he dropped his bundle after being left out of the leadership group.... only proving why it was justified to leave him out of the leadership group. His style of footy was good when footy suited his style, but he could not, or would not, change it when the game evolved and times required it.
  15. Yeh, if only we aimed higher under Bailey.... We would have been premiers! The kid was recruited as a project player. You are basing him, and the Bailey era, on one media out-take. We are not putting pressure on Hogan.... That also the work of Bailey?
  16. I went. I really don't need to re-watch it to confirm my memories.
  17. He was injured and had some major off-field challenges. Let's see how he goes in 2013. Last chance.
  18. I have a BRILLIANT idea. Let's read X story from Y journalist in Z paper, assume it's true, and slam the club for mismanaging the situation! There's a reason resigned and re-signed are so similar: So the media can claim a typo when they get it wrong. It's about SELLING PAPERS! It is speculation! Can I suggest we demons have enough to worry about in the real world rather than worrying about hypotheticals? If this happens, then fair enough, we should be critical. But it won't.

    Farren Ray

Farren Ray is a step backwards. I can't see what he adds. Never set the world on fire at WB or St Kilda. Nor physical. I think it is a short term decision, if we do it. It would suggest to me that we would be looking to delist a LOT of players!
  20. Neeld is a massive fan. He will definitely stay on the list. I am 60% sold on him. I think he is a really good 17th - 22nd player on the list, but won't ever be much better.
  21. Fair dinkum.... If we could get Robinson and pick 11 for Watts, I would laugh all the way to the bank!
