Recruiting a 3rd tall forward to find another 50 goals?
Agreed. Though. It's good to have the option. Looking at how WC did it this year, I'd have liked to keep Hogan for that reason. In most areas of the field most teams have options to match up. Not too many serious KP defenders though. The OP may have forgotten TMac, but the question is a good one. How do you replace Hogan, and don't say Weed. He's not that good. Personally I'm bullish about the Fritsch, Spargo, Tracca, Melksham types. Also whoever we grab in what will be a big draft this year. No reason why you can't look to smaller players to share the load.

I was down by about 55 with Gurley (projected 20), Jimmy Graham (10) and Snead (5-10) left... and my opponent had Kupp (15-20) left. He was homefree. Gurley gets me 37, Snead 10... and Kupp only goes for 1.2.... Now I need Graham to get about 8 points... so 4 catches for 60 yards or so.

I was thinking the same thing today. I've been thinking the Eagles have been very mediocre. But 3-3 this year... you're not that far off the big-time teams. Rams along with Pats or Chiefs the class of their conferences... but still everyone else we had picked has spluttered in one way or another.

I'd say more probable. It's getting like this every year. Well... put it this way... if he does get to them this trade period, that'll be how it happens. Not sure if you're joking... is it for real being telecast? streamed somewhere? What can they show? Just people running back and forth with papers in their hands? If I have to watch that McLure guy another second I'm gonna puke. That's a good point actually. You would think though that Freo would have been made aware well in advance that that would need to be the case.

SEN has been awful since crocmedia took over. This last week has been at a whole new level. Diabolical.

Well at least this thread achieved SOMETHING. Bloody hell when are we going to see some movement. All this talk, and the only players are Preuss and Kent?

Jeez @Gorgoroth how good are our boys. 49ers will be smoked by them... and you'll go into a tough 4 week stretch with Packers, Saints, Seahawks and Chiefs. Win a couple of those at least and you'll be unstoppable for playoffs and just playing for homefield.

I don't care what anyone says about how good defensive football is... A track meet like that is so great to watch in the NFL.

Damn. I'm starting to lose confidence in Jax.

Always loved and had admiration for this guy. Came at day one of a huge rebuild. You have to love a player like that. The move makes sense, but still sad to see him go.

Jax, Rams, Panthers Damn. Got in too late to pick Eagles. Totally would have too.

Can you clarify? Do you mean the statements from the club claiming Jesse was a required player? If so, they came about, I think, about a month before the end of the H&A season. Jesse had his exit interview, all was well, then a week before trade period starts all hell breaks lose and he's been the biggest news in footy for the last fortnight. The club hasn't said anything in interviews about wanting to trade him, aside from discussing what a potential trade would look like if and when he comes to us saying he wants out.

Pretty much all the media has been the opposite of what you say. Club+Goody+everyone said they had no interest in trading him. Then everyone's saying it's been brought up by Jesse and his agent. Not saying you're wrong, just that the tiny morsels we get from the club, and the absolutely disgraceful state of footy media suggest that it was Jesse driven.

Yeah. I imagine he wandered into Mahoney's office a few times asking if there's any way we could move into the first round... Think back to 2015 when, late in the trade period, we swapped 6 and our 2016 first rounder for 4 and 10... then swapped 10 for 7, and that got us Oliver and Weed.... That's what I anticipate happening if we end up with juicy draft capital after a Hogan trade.... Just cos we end up with 5+6, or 5+9 or whatever... doesn't mean we then start throwing those at SA clubs. I always have in the back of my head that I'd love to sling an early pick to, say, Port... for their next couple of first rounders. The SA clubs are in love with Rankin and Luko... I do sort of get that one. It's not that they want Jesse less... they just know they're not prepared to hand over that much stuff without waiting and checking on their priorities. These other mid range players like Lobb get done quicker normally.... less moving parts. Less pressure.

Yup. She hates him, so no skin off her nose. She's aware though that Dunn isn't what people make him out to be. And that they lost a GF by less than a goal cos of a lack of air superiority.

Another aspect to May I hadn't considered... a good friend and Pies supporter messages me today saying Pies aren't doing anything and she's annoyed. Says demons will probably get May... She also is picking demons/pies GF next year. If it's a 50-50 ball on whether May gets to us or them... We have ourselves a very very important player. He makes us better, and we stop Pies from improving.

I have him at 3rd, behind Oliver and Gawn. Not far ahead of Tmac, Lever and a few others... We're in good shape. I have the same sum that goes through my brain when it comes to our list, and our 22. I think ANB will likely spend a big chunk of his career being spoken about as a player who's "in your worst 6 in a premiership side." I dunno if that's particularly true, but it's certainly the way he's perceived. A hardworking, but slightly faulted player that plays 22 games in a season for you. Every club has them... When these trade suggestions come up, and I have these names... Tucker and Langdon... not bad footballers... but where do they rank next to ANB. Does he get squeezed out for them?

The key right now for us I reckon is understanding we're losing quality, and to get quality back. Not just depth. There's a handful of really good forward pocket types out there. They're a bit easier to find. If we're gonna get one they have to be a world better than what we've got... Hannan, Spargo, Fritta... Not just a slight improvement. Those names feel like steak knives in that deal.

Would it ever. Highly unlikely to happen... But I do love the thought of Freo's first rounder in a year when Mundy's a year older, Neale is gone, Hogan has a bad foot... It's one of the fun things about future pick trades. The one's we've done since they brought it in were probably just good trades. No massive unders or overs. But I look at the WC>GC trade of their first rounder. What a trade.

Yeah. I wonder if, given the Hogan thing (according to some) came out of the blue very late in the AFL calendar, we're at a disadvantage. I wonder if Taylor had spent the last 12 months looking at this draft class thinking he wouldn't be picking earlier than late second round. And now he has to go through his gameplan potentially with multiple first round picks, some early?
-
Farewell Jesse Hogan
Bird in the hand. I'm with you... When all's said and done, Taylor and every recruiter worth their salt know exactly what they want in each draft for years in advance. If we want more early picks in this draft over the next one, it's because we like these kids better. And vice versa. Still fun to watch unfold though.
