Preseason Training Week commencing 19 February 2018
buck_nekkid replied to Dingo's topic in Melbourne Demons
I would rather he plays a JLT and blows the calf, rather than him being rested for the season proper and blowing the calf in the first quarter versus Geelong. If he is fit, then he should resume through the JLT so that he has at least one game under his belt after his recovery to confirm it actually is match-ready. And if he is, then fantastic, we know he is good to go in the H&A. Tyson is not the sort of player we should 'rush back' from an injury, unsure if he can run out a game. A tweaked calf would end his day. Too often we rushed people back last year and it cost us. That crapola has to stop. -
Who plays in JLT v North Melbourne 24/2?
buck_nekkid replied to whatwhat say what's topic in Melbourne Demons
I reckon it will be a hit out for key structural elements, plus a look at newbies and fringers. lock in: T Mac, hoges, Garlett add 3 more for forward group lock in:, Petracca, Jones add 3 of midfielders lock in Lever, Jetta and omac, hibberd add 2 backs lock in Gawn, add some runners. Then in JLT2, run the best 25 as a lead in to the season- 88 replies

THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE HAWK IN THE NIGHT-TIME
buck_nekkid replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Something I really liked: when the game was open we ran and played with flair. When things got tough, we got tougher. We actually played a range of footy styles (evident by the changing score lines across the night). This bodes well for the season, as the ability to change gears and do what needs to be done at the time may be the big step-up, rather than in past years having one style for every occasion. -
I thought you were talking about that Preuss idiot from Norf! It is our away strip, and it looked the business! Ps, it is also a winning strip...

Rapt we won. A good hit out for a few of the boys. Nice to see a mix of established talent with some raw newbies. Plenty to like. No injuries reported (phew!)

AFLW: Rd 2 Vs Adelaide at Casey
buck_nekkid replied to FarNorthernD's topic in AFLW Melbourne Demons
Scrappy early, skills wise. However, as the confidence improved, so did the quality in all facets of the game. Looked a well coached unit, today. Well done Dees! -
Yeah, saw it was an attempt at humour. About as funny as Donald Trump....

Fark! Can we just shut up about the camp thing? Kid gets knocked out in a match sim, hope he is OK. Its a tough game, and I want the Demons to play it tough.
-
Think of the game as one of rotations: Midfield, secondary zone, bench. Bernie and Lewis rotate centre-back-bench, Trac, Jones (Hogan, Hannan) rotate forward-centre-bench. Stretch wing-centre-bench. Oliver and Viney as almost pure mids (on ball - bench). Etc. Provides lots of options, and also leadership on every line. With Lewis and Lever coordinating the back half, Jones could add some valuable leadership forward if needed. So I'm not against him spending time forward as Trac rotates into the middle. I don't speak to him, or for him, but in the pics posted he seems to be going OK for an old bugger with bung calves....

Any reports of what they have been doing so far?

Preseason Training Week commencing - 15/01/18
buck_nekkid replied to PartyBoy's topic in Melbourne Demons
But were they delivering what was wanted for the firsts? JT9 came back into the firsts and was too slow. Being in the bests at Casey is not always going to reflect what is wanted or needed for a particular role in the MFC team. So the idea of ‘form’ based on how someone goes compared to Casey players is different to ‘form’ based upon how someone goes relative to the AFL role required. -
Blight is about as relevant as a dog thurd on the lawn. I did not read any arrogance into his statements, only a 'calm confidence'. The fact that everyone else at the club is singing his praises, lining up to work with him or off him (see Drunkin's comment re Dec) and you get a sense that we have spent our money and draft picks well. If he improves our back half, and makes others work harder to get a gig, even better. 2 goals a game better? Could be more - both his ability to intercept mark and redirect us out of back half pressure, the change in structure with T-Mac forward, but also the overall leadership and pressure on others to meet and hold higher standards.

Thanks. It was a good read. It generated many pages of conversation in a thread about it at the time. Lets hope th3 training reports are right and he is stepping up to a big 2018.

NFI. Must be living in 2015.

If his role is small forward, then there may be advantages / lack of disadvantages to his shorter stature. It seems a bit ridiculous to have a ‘tall small forward’, doesn’t it? -
AFLX is coming (the X makes it sound cool)
buck_nekkid replied to Ethan Tremblay's topic in Melbourne Demons
It will take one injury to a senior listed player, or ‘new hope’ draftee for this to die. It is a terrible time for it, just before the preseason comp. imagine if Viney or Hogan did a knee in this stupid concoction. -
Top notch! Cheers
