It concerns me a little that whatever overtraining he immersed himself into to GET fit hasn't set him up for continuing soft tissue niggles. GC players in the main seem quite fit I'd say .

A tale of two cities also. Melbourne.. seemingly on the cusp of achievement, GC rebuilding and redesigning it's game. Dew would be looking 2-3 years before repeat finals action and such. Melbourne thought it just needed icing the cake. Seems the cakes stale and tasteless and the icing a bit thin . Im just sitting over here watching. Have no real expectations of May now. Just hope he can play a bit.

It might be a little premature to call this one but it certainly doesn't have the feel about that I was hoping for. Was hoping for someone of very good ability, very good stewardship and raring to go. At the very least I thought he'd be on the paddock. So far....not so good

That there might be commonality is hardly surprising. We been around , we fossils, since our last bit of silverware. It's been a long time. Far too long really given some opportunities and talent over this journey. So excuse us if we don't suffer fools or foolishness. We're a little over it. Those that suggest patience....how many lifetimes are you prescribing ? In my line of endeavours I always seek excellence. Failure isn't really an option as I'd be sued out of existence. So I take efforts to get things right. I adapt when circumstance dictates. I become that tree. Some of us have indeed been around that long we recognise poor institution. We can detect BS at great distance...and we can see when something or someone is set-up to inevitably fail through too dogmatic and insular application. I see nothing about us currently to get overly enthused. I did. But it evaporated.. If that's a common thread...so be it.

So as I see it..a hypothetical of course ... Things don't pan out so well..2019 finishes with us winning 6-7 games. Some disquiet over the next summer ..etc etc. 2020 improves a smidge.( or not ) Where does the club go then ?

Strangely , or not, I took it with a little less umbrage. It would be human nature to bring a bit more urgency to the matter if you hadn't the extension already. I'm certainly not suggesting he's not working. I just think he working in the wrong direction. He has that largesse now.

Chaplin was not a Roos choice..theres a difference. He was a Goodwin selection. Roos allowed Goodwin to assemble his own team. In the end...any of the assistants are only there to do the coach's bidding

The alternative is blindingly obvious. You wait a little...proceed with a little caution. I shall repeat what I said earlier. You needn't have waited til season's end but maybe let the year start and see where it's going ( currently downhill out the backdoor at an alarming rate ). . There's nothing new or overly clever about such strategy. Just prudent.

Our style...for want of a better word ...of football only worked (sic) whilst opposition allowed it. Once teams twigged...they deny us our game and play theirs. We are so dumb we just keep going our way...but are no longer relevant as better ( probably at a count of 17 now ) teams have worked us out Sadly the FD hasn't worked out that we've been worked out.

The Melbourne brand of footy ... As designed by the FD I see similarity... except....a Camel is actually useful. Imho...a lot of our situation is by decree. We've set out to play a particular style. It invariably ignores/over-rides/ dispenses-with any inherent footy nous of our players and replaced it with a draconian nonsense that is easily picked apart. Some players are indeed woeful, but many are simply incapable of playing a game style which itself is incapable of sustainability. We play rubbish.....by design.

It's very likely we're just that very convenient awkward dork that EVERYONE can pick on...even the lesser clubs as they're STILL more successful in the last 50 years. Only the Aints are as pitiful as us but they have this supposed blue collar image. We are those smug top of the towners with all that silverware just tarnishing away. They were great once...but look at them now KICK...not so clever now are we KICK KICK smirk giggle KICK.
