Still waiting on the list of players who haven't been stars after producing results like Oliver in his second year.
You could dodge the question by saying "nobody has" but that wouldn't help your position would it.
I saw the Ralph solution. Seems fair but I couldn't understand where Rockliff fitted in. Can't Carlton just get him as a FA anyway?
Mark Coughlan maybe?
10 and 27 for Lever for us - I like it
Carlton need to clear Gibbs to afford Rockliff presumably

My Crows supporting mates rate Lever as the best young defender in the competition and think he's worth every bit of a straight swap for Petracca, or two picks in the first round minimum
I don't know any Crows supporter who doesn't rate him super highly
They are also cognizant of the fact that what they want for him and what they get will probably not match...

Exactly. So why wouldn't you sign long term with GWS? That tells me he's going to stick it out another two years and then head back to Victoria.
it'll be interesting to see what happens to the three recent signees:
- whitfield: signed til 2020
- kelly: signed til 2019
- hopper: signed til 2019of all their 'in-demand' players only toby greene is signed on til end of next season, and he won't be a free agent - a year short - but he'll absolutely be in-demand
but 2019 could be a bounty:
- tomlinson: restricted free agent
- shiel: rfa
- buntine: rfa
- haynes: rfa
- coniglio: rfa
- lobb
- himmelberg
- hopper
- kellyall either rfa's or simply out of contract

As far as I am aware, he missed the most time suffering from a thyroid condition (hardly football related), then concussion as a result of a brick hitting him in the head (again, hardly football related... self inflicted) and most recently suffered a hamstring injury (and I get the feeling Salem is not the first AFL player to have done a hammy).
So, just what is this injury history he has, and what "worse prognosis" could the club possibly be holding back on?
2014 preseason - thyroid issue
2015 - injuries to both hamstrings, second one pretty severe
2016 - thyroid issue
2017 preseason - brick to the head
2017 - hamstring againplayed more games this year than any other year and as long as we're on top of the thyroid issue he's vital to our future imo

That's cause many of the 'big trade' discussions are here on Demonland, and Demonland alone, based on "inside words" from sometimes less than credible sources.
hibberd was relatively 'big trade' - all australian defender quality for a second round pick! - and worked out exactly as foretold

if you equate it to lever being paid $670k or so across 5 years - which is what $850k under the new cba equates to, under the old cba - does that make those who are worried about his price feel any better?
i'm of the opinion that if we can get it done, we get it done
crows' supporting mates think it'll happen, just a matter for what - they think he's absolutely worth two first rounders, the only way i can see that happening is if something comes back the other way
we were spitballing and came up with the following:
lever plus rory atkins FOR melbourne pick 10, 2017 and melbourne's 2018 first rounder
OR
lever plus brisbane's 2nd round pick 2017 (pick 18-20, traded to the crows for charlie cameron) FOR melbourne pick 10, 2017 and melbourne's 2018 first rounder
the one i would love to take off their hands is hugh greenwood, but crows fans are adamant he ain't leaving

At 22, some of his defensive plays are insane.
Some of his spoils last night went as far as 30 metres.
And his composure with ball in hand is super impressive.
I don't care what we give up, he is going to be the best defender in the comp within a few years.
21 - doesn't turn 22 til the start of next season
kid is a pretty rare talent
go get him dees!

Sounds like Jake Stringer wants out and is on the table.
Still has youth on his side. But has alot of hamstring trouble and his final series was ordinary for his talent and size. Not a big game player!
Pass
where's this rumour sprung from?
cannot see dogs letting him go

i'm presuming something akin to:
crows: get pick 5, lose lever + something else
freo: get pick 10, a second round pick + something else (no idea what, obviously not mcgovern), lose pick 5, balic
melbourne: get lever and balic, lose pick 10, something else (kent to freo?)i don't know how it would work at all
i'd rather just pick 10 for lever

I'm tempted to make a long-winded post in regards to all points, but I genuinely can't be farked so I'll say the following.
Your general reductionist view of 'the third tall' means you're unable to see what makes Lever such a truly special player. Given the way the game is now played with zone defences, the need for versatility, agility, marking and spoiling skills are more important than ever when it comes to key defenders.
Lever is the number one intercept mark in the AFL at age 22. The same age as Oscar and similar games experience. You grossly underestimate this rare skill he possesses. Knowing when and where to run to make an intercept mark or spoil. He is elite in this area. Better than Hibberd.
I'm going to again post a video of a highlights package from his second year. None of our key defenders even come close to impacting the marking contests that Lever wills himself to. Oscar simply doesn't have the speed nor intensity, Frost doesn't have the game understanding or awareness and Tom is similarly hit and miss with contests.
Lever is a [censored] amazing footballer at 22 years of age and the reason club's are offering the money is because of how good an intercept player he is. He is the prototype key defender.
this is pretty much my thoughts on this kid
he's a far better kick than most on here are giving him credit for being, and coupled with his intercept prowess - which went to another level again in the back half of the year, as he started marking rather than simply spoiling (and boy, when he spoils, he KILLS the contest) - he's the ideal man to have as part of a zone defence
i would suspect if he is contemplating coming to us (and i really, really hope he is) then part of the appeal would be that the zone he's asked to play is pretty much tailor-made for his natural abilities

All the talk at the moment is that it's btw Dees and Footscray; Crows would prefer he went to Pies cos they're prepared to give up pick 6, but Lever's preference is Melbourne
The $$ have been pushed up by Footscray's offer, as to whether or not we are matching that valuation is another matter
I was told yesterday it's a "done deal" but we shall see
Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever
in Melbourne Demons
Preseason draft picks can’t be traded
Melbourne have been above board and open in trading and wouldn’t engage in such subterfuge
It ain’t the Veale deal days anymore
