Regardless of what happens tonight, Cameron Ling is still the worst 'special comments' commentator ever.  Talks absolute rubbish.

as he would say, inevitably, "i completely agree with you richo"

Footballing maths. I suspect you might really mean 4 of our best 22.

football is all about your bottom six - take away four of the 22 and yr reliant upon your squad, and that's 26

fwiw, if you add in kk, that's 9 of what was my ostensible 'best 26' from the start of the year now missing:

    B: Jetta - May - Lever
    HB: Lewis - O Mac - Hibberd
    C: Jones - Brayshaw - Harmes
    HF: Petracca - T Mac - vandenBerg
    F: J Smith - Weideman - Melksham
Foll: Gawn - Oliver - Viney
    I/c: Hannan - Hunt - Fritsch - Preuss
Emerg: Spargo - Stretch - Kolodjashnij - Frost

that's 8 of 26 currently on the injury list, or freshly added to it since the weekend, plus jkh is next cab off the ranks too

  3. not to mention the game where jurrah was on fire against the aints then proceeded to spend 20 mins on the pine

it was a disgraceful time and they should have done far, far better...like the filth, meth coke, and poos&wees before em, and made it COUNT at the draft table

instead we had 10 picks out of top 30 in three drafts and picked morton, grimes, watts, blease, strauss, maric, $cully, trengove, gysberts, and tapscott

you couldn't stuff it up both on- and off-field harder if you tried

  4. 8 of our best 22-26 on the injury list now ?

    Tom McDonald (Ankle) — Test
    Charlie Spargo (Jaw) — Test
Jordan Lewis (Hamstring) — 1-3 weeks
Steven May (Groin) — 2-3 weeks
Joel Smith (Groin) — 2-3 weeks
Aaron vandenBerg (Ankle) — 4-6 weeks
Mitch Hannan (Knee) — 6-8 weeks
Jake Lever (Knee) — 6-8 weeks
    Jay Kennedy-Harris (Knee) — 10-12 weeks
    Aaron Nietschke (Knee) — season
    Guy Walker (Shoulder) — season

it's all well and good to highlight these four as having great starts for their new sides, but they were never actually 'on the market'

    - linc mccarthy - was always going to the bears, cos his best mate neale was always going there
    - lachie neale - was never coming to melbourne; wanted the anonymous lifestyle of brisbane
    - gary rohan - was always going to geelong as it's where he's from
    - luke dahlhaus - see rohan, gary

jarryd lyons might have been available, but i doubt if we were even looking at him; no one was, other than the bears

$cully was obviously never returning to us, and only wanted to go to hawks cos of their excellent injury recovery record

beams was only going to the pies and hogan was always going back to freo if the deal could get done, as was lobb

shiel was choosing btw big money deals at carlton or essendon

the only players on the 'active' market this last off-season were may / kolodjashnij package, wingard, newman, colyer, lloyd, scrimshaw, horlin-smith, setterfield, stengle, and maybe a couple of others around the edges

in hindsight players like setterfield or lloyd would be handy, but neither are world-beaters

wingard would've been great, but in an ideal world we'd have held our nerve and hold onto hogan

Does anyone here have any knowledge of the upcoming draft? We have to use our first round pick this year as per the draft rules of not using one in the draft in the past 4 years.

Who are the best hard running and pacy midfielders in the upcoming draft?

    knightmare's early 2019 rankings: http://www.espn.com.au/afl/story/_/id/25376887/afl-draft-chris-doerre-top-20-prospects-2019

noah anderson, sam flanders, mitch o'neill, matthew rowell, caleb serong, jeremy sharp, cooper stephens, dylan stephens sound like the likeliest prospects for this role

most important thing is to pick a player who can a) be developed properly and b) have a bit of luck on his side

if we maintain current position i imagine we'll be all over rowell like a cheap suit - all the draft experts have been raving about him for a couple of years now, since his u/16s year at least

  7. the biggest issue is that the likes of preuss and garlett need game time to press their claims

having a short break means that you need them to play minimum a half of footy...and is that enough?

i'm also not sure what benefit there is in having preuss play predominantly ruck in the vfl when, if picked for the afl, he'll primarily play forward and relief ruck

it's why you'd have to assume kielty or perhaps even tim smith would be ahead of him in the pecking order currently

I just spoke to someone close to one of our senior players.

I was told that  Pruess will almost definitely play against the Swans. He has been battling abductor issues but should be right to go on Thursday.

guaranteed he does himself a mischief tomorrow in the vfl, then

  9. Pending any injuries out of the vfl hit out...

OUT: KK, T Mac, O Mac, ANB
    IN: Spargo, Petty, Garlett, Keilty

jones and frost both deserve to be dropped, hibberd and fritsch borderline the same, trac was better this week than last week but could probably still go...unfortunately there's really not much to come in

KK looks like the second coming of Cale Morton

    B: Jetta - Frost - J Wagner
HB: Salem - Petty - Hibberd
    ? Fritsch - Brayshaw - Harmes
    HF: Petracca - Weideman - C Wagner
    F: Spargo - Melksham - Hunt
Foll: Gawn - Oliver - Viney
    I/c: Jones - Stretch - Garlett - Keilty
Emerg: Preuss - Hore - Sparrow - Jordon

  10. 6: brayshaw (and he butchered it all night long)
5: gawn (we're going to run him into the ground early this year)
4: harmes (three goals from midfield)
2: oliver (and he butchered it every time he kicked)
1: hunt (three goals in first game as a small forward)

    it was ugly this evening
