how's van der haar developing kc?

i actually don't think they're that different to us at all: riewoldt = a mature hogan rance - t mac plus 2 years cotchin = jones minus 2 years grigg = vince minus 2 years houli = lewis minus 2 years martin = a mature petracca people are doing a serious disservice to summarily dismiss them; winning footy is good footy we definitely have a bit of advantage in oliver and hunt being on the younger end of the spectrum, but it's not as pronounced as i think we'd like to think they're in the same position we are i reckon - the teams sort of pushing to finish high-ish in the ruck of teams that are sort of 5-15

tbh i don't mind richmond's season thus far. they've got an excellent tall defender and forward in rance and riewoldt and surrounded them with a rotation of likely types - be it talls who are lock-downs (astbury, grimes) or runners (houli, ellis, mcintosh) in defense or a plethora of exciting smalls up forward (castagna, butler, rioli and now bolton). their midfield has been completely rejuvenated by the addition of nankervis, prestia and caddy alongside the star quality of cotchin and martin plus workmanlike approach of grigg, lambert and titch edwards. they're playing a good brand of footy and have not only lost one game by more than a goal, and have won enough games to be top 4 at the halfway mark of the season. it's an enviable position to be in.

Goddard is a good player but he acts like a petulant child too often. I agree with Ash in that he has an excellent football brain, makes the right decisions more often than not, and communicates them effectively to his teammates...sometimes. He seems to be extremely arrogant but then again he's a very good footballer, so why shouldn't he be.

gw$ have 26 fit players to pick from, and currently have neafl, vfl and wafl players playing for em. it's gonna be frightening if they can get their best players all fit at once.

word i have heard is it's closer to an average of $750k per annum over the course of the three years, so slightly over $2.25m total value, not the reported $2m over three

plus heretier lumumba too - i think people forget he's still actually on our list in 2017.

sit down, be humble indeed
-
if he cost nothing in a trade it could be okay as an interim for a year or two. but he won't be in the game much beyond that. he's on a ridiculous amount of money for his output
-
watched the first quarter and about 10 minutes of the third quarter port looked slick and hawks looked pathetic in the first, and the 10 minute take saw the toump getting ragdolled and a serious epic lol vickery moment looked like a rubbish game

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY
whatwhat say what replied to DemonLad5's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think the push for may is that each year you want to add something that becomes a 'best 22' automatic. See Hibberd, Michael and Lewis, Jordan in 2017. I think Hannan, Mitch could well be the same - but he was a speculative pick; another Jason Taylor masterstroke. Would May be best 22 for us? 100%. But if Maclure is right and he is about to sign up at GC17 (which he really should, as he's their skipper plus Ablett is leaving and thus clearing a lot of cap space for them) then we have to look elsewhere. Our tall defenders are T Mac, Frost, O Mac, Keilty with Garland, J Smith, Hibberd at a pinch - but really they're more rebounders. None are overly tall nor capable of particularly strong one-on-one contests...but all have strengths / weaknesses. A best 22 key defender would be a fantastic addition to the side - May, Lever, Trengove - and is something most fans are baying for in 2018. I'm definitely keen on Trengove as a free agent personally. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY

The other advantage of Trengove (over May) is his flexibility whereby he can play in the ruck and also pinch-hit up forward as required. I'm definitely warming to getting him as a free agent and holding onto our first round pick rather than giving anything up for May / Lever, as much as I love Lever. You'd expect they'd all be on similar $$ but getting Trengove would cost us nada in terms of giving anything up (other than the cap space) to get him in. -
Hard not to see it as their premiership to lose

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY

Neither Lever or May have the height to match the modern 200cm+ mobile key forwards - fortunately our zone defensive style is the key to guarding those monster talls. I'll take either tbh I find it hard to fathom the captain of a side walking out on his side - but such is the nature of modern footy I guess -
I'd prefer Hibberd to Gawn with a contested mark just outside 50 who hands it off to Jones who chips to Lewis who passes to Watts who hits Trac up with a delightful pass who plays on and puts it down Hogan's throat 15m directly in front for a certain goal Agreed, very simple game
-
To start with we really only play a four maybe five man forward line. really it's about Hogan, Watts and Garlett as the main three then there's a handful of rotating smaller players - Hannan, Bugg, Petracca etc., plus mids rolling thru
-
Milkshake was borderline BOG alongside Garlett - genuine four quarter performance
