question for the next pod before we win / lose to the filth on monday - would our premiership chances be better off in the long-run if we DON'T make finals in 2024?

We gave Spargo a 4 year deal, and Hayward is 10 times the player. Hayward is rightfully in high demand whereas no other club would have been looking at Spargo.
weren't there two clubs - from memory, hawthorn and the peptides? - who were sniffing around spargo as recently as last year?
small pressure forwards with good footskills are quite valuable

If anything, the Tigers premiership ‘20 is the mother of all asterisks. That season was completely compromised.
or, you could argue, the least compromised for quite some time - everyone played each other once!

Speaking of mid season, Chandlers form has dropped off exactly like it did this time last year.
he's not been the same since he hurt his knee against i think port

Like you, my old man and I walk into 2A for any games against saints/dogs/north/Hawks/Cats or interstate teams and sit in the unused Medallion Club seats.
I reserve against the bigger sides and know that they hold back P21 and P23 until the week of the game for all Melbourne, Collingwood, Carlton, Hawthorn and Essendon home games.
yesterday they went on sale for both Sunday night and Monday.
i had no idea about that
how absurd

Have 1 ticket on level 2A of the AFL Reserve that I’m looking to offload.
in Bay P21, would like it to go to a demon.
Im in the MCC so won’t be using this one.
how'd you get 2a?!??
i was feeling lucky i got level m, not q
normally i rock up to the g, scan in gate 6, make me way to 2a with a "i know where i'm going vibe", but this is one of the few games were i sit in an assigned seat

What about turning Sparrow into a tagger / defensive mid? Does nothing else and has probably hit his ceiling already
he doesn't have the pace nor the workrate
at 24 he should be entering the peak of his midfield powers
instead, he looks headed for the vfl with his lack of effort

the thing is, @picket fence, that's not what people are calling you up on - you are denigrating the 2021 premiership by looking at 2024
i don't think we're a chance to win the premiership in 2024 personally, but that has nothing to do with 2021
saying we fluked a premiership? stupid comment

his fitness base to power out of the contest is clearly not there
and it won't return during this season
he needs a big off-season to return to the best he can be in 2025

perfect bye content; worth revisiting post king's birthday i reckon
in football, just as in life, things are never as bad or as good as they may seem
but this

is an appalling comment imo
agree with the first bit, but to say he's 'destroyed the club'? shocking thing to say

I may be in the minority, but I reckon he’s worth it.
me too
and within two years there's going to be many more players on $1m plus a year, with the salary cap set to rise exponentially

Otherwise it’s a matter of getting rid of expensive deals before we bring money back in. Brown, McDonald, Tomlinson come off the books this year, that’s our tall shopping.
plus brayshaw, regardless of what element holds over in the cap or not
that should be at least $2m of cap space

Bet all the Goodwin bashers also wanted Norm Smith sacked in 65. How did that work out?
The issue is list management.
Since the flag:
Out: Hunt gone, Hibberd retired, Jackson gone, Bedford gone, JJ gone, Gus medically retired, JS on extended holiday, Grundy doing the Grandpa Simpson meme.
In: ????i would say...
IN (the best 23): van Rooyen, McVee, Windsor
also IN: Hunter, Billings, Howes, Jefferson, McAdam, Fullarton, Tholstrup, Woewodin
the biggest issue is that all the players we have picked up from other clubs have been nqr; our recruiting via the draft has been sound
of those you noted as out, only hibberd, jackson, gus were in our best 23

personally i would doubt buckley is as keen as an observer of the mfc as anyone on this message board
he's just a commentator whose focus is on 18 clubs, and as everyone is well aware with a particular bent towards the black and white variety

Wasnt JJ a free agent?
The timing of Angus’ retirement really hurt us - as I recall it was after trades and after draft day. So no possible replacement.
from memory it was about a month opening round
shocking timing

We need to look at what Sydney have done. They added Adams and Jordon to their midfield mix which has allowed Heaney more freedom. Crazy when you consider we let Jordon go.
we didn't 'let jordon go'
he got offered more money, and an outlined role in a well-coached side
so he left

Time to let Choco go? As you said our kicking skills are still subpar.
i get that feeling too
he's meant to be our skills coach
well our skills are appalling

"obliterated in every phase"
goodwin not a happy camper

3 losses out of 4 games and the team looks bereft of confidence and the ability to put pace on ball movement - how do we turn that around?

We better act now, Adelaide is still out there in the wilderness and it's been 6 years.
crom have never recovered from the 2017 grand final beating
we look like we might be bruised by the 2023 finals losses

i can't get over that he can't kick more than 30m
he provides nothing in terms of defensive pressure either
very disappointed

Don't mind ANB in the middle as he's having a great year for the most part, but at least one of Oliver or Tracc has to be in there with him. The Langdon one makes no sense though.
the issue with both anb and pickett playing thru the midfield is it means no one provides defensive pressure as a small forward and the oppo waltzes it out of d50 under no pressure
i am very concerned about what the filth's small runners will do to us next week

if he's going to hold his place in the afl side, he needs to go back to defence

he's not young anymore - he turns 25 this upcoming off-season and should be entering the peak of his football powers
i agree that we lack experience forward, particularly with anb playing so much more thru the midfield in 2024
