I put watching a Pies win and a pap smear on the same level of enjoyment.

Except one is necessary and can save my life, the other is just torture for no gain.

Goody sounds very confident about this week. I get the feeling many plans have been worked out, hopefully the Players can implement

But i haven’t heard Simon this confident for a while

    Interesting

I do believe Maynard wasn't intending to knock Gus out, rather to make a physical statement early in a big final, but he made the decision and it's had massive consequences for Gus and he should have been suspended.

I think Maynard had every intention of taking Angus out. The Ball had left the area.
he executed the Move and connected 100% to the head….😡

You should have seen the abuse and anger I copped from a mature, otherwise very sensible Pies fan, when we were discussing the incident.

I said after Maynard got off, that the AFL will 100% outlaw that the next year and he then continued with the abuse and anger.

“Very sensible Pies Fan” there is the first problem.
Yes it was all Angus’ fault to them…

    Revenge is Best, Served Cold…..😡

I can relate to a lot of what Hamish says here. My love for footy isn’t what it used to be.

The AFL played its hand last year with Angus’ incident, and showed us they would always value money and popularity, over justice and equity. If you tear that social contract too deeply you can never earn back peoples belief.

Now I just watch the footy and laugh at how much of it is like WWE. Commentators essentially deciding tribunal matters on the fly during games, the way the schedule is constructed, and then this weeks literal wrestling kayfabe with Sam Taylor calling Sydney out - obviously instructed by the AFL to create some faux tension for the media.

The AFL has jumped the shark. It pushed its version of reality so far in its own direction that I can’t unsee it’s illusions now.

    Gladiatorial Entertainment

I despise the AFL, but i HATE the Filth even more….

    I'll try again.

Of course other clubs wanted to play Collingwood as their home game. But when Collingwood put their wishlist in, a home game against Melbourne wasn't on it.

If Collingwood had a wishlist for themselves, it was 10 other things, not this one. Because they got more value out of getting a guaranteed away game at the MCG (our wish for them) plus their own wish, than they would've gotten out of having QB as one of their home games.

We shouldn't be thankful. That's genuinely boot licking.

In return, Collingwood basically got no interstate travel, max games at the G, plus the best prime time exposure to grow their brand, for over a decade.

This is why they are so big now.

Collingwood also took over The Ponsford Stand. They made money on Queens Birthday wearing white shorts.

We know how often people play their best games against us. Just recently Cam Rayner was the perfect example.

I expect Hawkins to break his goal drought against us.

I am well aware of his past deeds. Our Defense is in for a busy night. But i back them in to get the job done

    Excellent point.

Security of tenure for assistant coaches is very low. On this basis alone they should be paid extra to allow for the time to transition to another job

4 week Payout is the standard Contract.
Very Difficult for an assistant Coach to rejoin the workforce if they have been in the AFL System a long time.
4 weeks is an absolute disgrace…

  9. These are the types of decision we need to get 100% over the next 3-5 years, to stay ahead of the game, whilst The Map of Tassie take all the young talent.

Look at young kids who have been in the system (30-40 Games) So they are ready to step up immediately.
Recruiting will be the number one job for the next 10 years.
Get it right and the Club generates $Millions

    Winning=Exposure

I'd say you're dead on. Aflw costs 57 mln to operate.  Last year, MFC made 56 mln in revenue (3 mln profit).

Generally speaking the AFL is drowning in $$$$.

    1 bln of revenue.

    650mln operating surplus

Then they pay the clubs 400 mln

    The AFLPA gets 50 mln

Grassroots they made a commitment to give 10 percent of revenue (100mln!!)

Net profit is 120mln. (And they don't pay tax)

They have 160 mln in cash on hand.

TLDR:  there's easily enough runway to expand one or teams, not eliminate them.

And for what it's worth the salary cap needs to be increased in line with global sports. Revenue has essentially doubled in 10 years, and salary cap has only gone up 60 percent.

Amazing that all the assistant coaches are still being underpaid since Covid….

Not sure it is as black and white as this. The North members voted to stay and James along with Angus' dad, Mark were on a board that had to implement the wishes of the members. They did this pretty well to be fair and reached finals in most years.

But what was the long term plan, JB said he had a Grand Plan (White Knights as i recall) but nothing happened…except that the situation is now far worse and very complicated

They. already have a Tasmanian presence, and they have a coach who is said to support a Tasmanian presence.   Nobody wants an uneven number of teams.  Logic suggests that North relocate.

Chook - AFL may well be heading for broke if the rumoured concussion class action succeeds.

Yes nobody wants to discuss Concussion litigation so far. It’s brewing

The next few years are crucial for our long term success, just shows how much pressure is on the recruiting staff, thank goodness for JT

Absolutely. They are under pressure, but the rewards for getting it right are huge.
Recruiters should be on similar money to Senior Coaches, with incentive clauses.

Interesting article in the The Age this week about a certain team from Royal Park way attracting a bus-load of sponsers, certain teams in this competion have unfair advantage due to AFL pandering of "blockbusters" and timeslot preference that make them very profitable,  unfortunately for the Roos, Bulldogs, Saints and lesser extent The Dees it's a catch 22, uncompetitive teams don't get Thurs, Friday night exposure for the sponser market (unless of course you are a certain team from Royal Park). So the rich get richer and the rest are left to derision from the "Have-alls" like Maguire.

I have no doubt the Demons can be in that Top Bracket as long as we keep nailing the good young recruits. But we do have to keep getting them right. There is no room for failure in the next 4-5 years

I think we all get your point by now. North suck.

like most terrible teams they have poor leadership. They need to draft well and build it up from within.  Same as we need and the tigers and the blues etc. We all came from the same place North are at. Tigers 34 of pain probably the worst of the lot. Lucky they have so many fans

The wheel will turn for North like it always has

I certainly don’t have your unbridled enthusiasm that North will survive. They are too far down the well.
19 clubs do not add up long term, and i don’t see a 20th Club emerging from the NT, as some others do.

  16. 4 minutes ago, DubDee said:

of course I am. As they have the most young high draft picks out of any team and will get the even more, they are better placed than a few teams to ride out the Arrival of Tassie in 4 years. Sure they’ll lose some but get picks in return

North are just going to get belted week after week

    Where is the Leadership?

  17. 4 minutes ago, DubDee said:

North have been down for 7 years and before that made finals 4 out of the previous 5 years.

The Demons missed finals for 10 years and had some horrific years.

North have Sheezel, Wardlaw, Durrsma, Scott, LDU, McKercher, McDonald, Larkey, Curtis, Powell, etc.  Heaps of great youth.

North are better placed that the teams dropping now, like the Tigers who wont get many draft picks. They just need to get games into the youth. Once they start winning, players will stay

You are not factoring in Tasmania into this debate. Not all those recruits will be star players at North, not all of them will stay either.
Clarkson cannot get a win out of them now

The moment the AFL let Horne Francis walk out after 1 year, North were in serious trouble
