  1. as far as kanga goes, collingwood would probably be happy to get their hands on a 2nd ground ... e.g. gosch's
  2. @BLWNBAgiven the journos at afl media are described as "independent journalists", is this like saying the journos are non-permanent, contracted staff(employees), paid by afl media which is owned by the afl? just like many organisation employ non-permanent contract workers, or is it different?
  3. some interesting reading for background info on afl media ================================================================= AFL Media From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia AFL Media is an Australian sports media company operated by the Australian Football League (AFL) to provide coverage of the league and the sport of Australian rules football. History [edit] Established in 2012, AFL Media provides content to AFL.com.au and the AFL Live mobile app, and formerly published the AFL Record from 2012 to 2018. Although Telstra currently holds the digital media broadcasting rights for AFL games, there is an agreement in place that allows AFL.com.au to host video content from Telstra Media.[1] Telstra also receives the advertising revenue from the website.[2] Although AFL Media is located in the same building as the AFL's headquarters in Docklands, Victoria, it employs an independent editorial and journalist team to report on the league and produce content on its various mediums.[2] Since its inception as a business, AFL Media had published the match-day AFL Record; however Crocmedia acquired the publishing arm of AFL Media in July 2018, and will assume the operations of producing the AFL Record and its related brands from 2019.[3] Controversy regarding the standing down of Mitch Cleary [edit] The standing down of Mitch Cleary was a controversy was a dispute centred around AFL Media's decision to stand down journalist Mitch Cleary for posting a tweet revealing Brooke Cotchin, the wife of Richmond Tigers player Trent Cotchin, had breached the Australian Football League‘s (AFL) social distancing rules in the interstate "hubs" that all Victorian and New South Wales AFL teams were in following a resurgence of COVID-19 in Victoria and New South Wales.[4] The move was widely condemned as a “betrayal of journalism”, and it led to widespread public backlash, with many figures urging AFL Media to reinstate him to his position.[5][6] Among the figures calling for his reinstatement was Brooke Cotchin, who voiced her support for Cleary in a tweet.[7] Due to the backlash, AFL Media eventually walked back on their decision, reinstating Mitch Cleary to his previous position.[8] Reactions and aftermath [edit] Journalist Caroline Wilson recommended that Cleary, who she deemed a "serious journo", should stop working for AFL Media.[9] After the incident, fellow AFL Media journalist Damian Barrett declared his support for the AFL’s decision, a statement which was widely criticised.[10][11][12] The controversy resulted in a significant worsening of approval towards AFL Media, with several figures, including president of the Collingwood Football Club Eddie McGuire and radio broadcaster Gerard Whateley, stating that it had undermined the image of AFL Media as being independent from the Australian Football League.[13][6] Journalist Rohan Connolly deemed the event a "disaster", and he stated that it was the product of a gradual decline in the quality of AFL Media's reporting. He went on to state that the event could undermine public confidence in the AFL.[14] Content [edit] AFL Media provides content for a range of digital products including AFL.com.au and the 18 clubs' official websites, the AFL Live mobile app and the various social media channels operated by the AFL on platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram.[1] It also produces a range of podcasts and online videos analysing various aspects of the AFL, as well as operating the league's photography and film departments: AFL Photos and AFL Films, respectively.[1][15] It has been speculated that AFL Media could potentially control the broadcast of AFL games in future broadcasting agreements, and either directly sell to audiences itself or on-sell the content to free-to-air and subscription television networks.[15][16] Criticism [edit] Due to its direct affiliation with the Australian Football League, AFL Media has received criticism from rival media outlets and journalists questioning whether it can truly provide independent coverage of the league, and that it is not just a public relations tool.[1][15] Former St Kilda coach Grant Thomas publicly reiterated this criticism in 2016, stating that AFL Media was "avoiding" reporting on several controversial issues to protect the AFL's brand.[17]
  4. we all live in hope ... else we'd not be demon fans
  5. you're such a bundle of joy, dr.g
  6. i did ... but looks like mods removed it i only put article up without any comment or speculation the article did have references to that court case we can't discuss, but the article is in the public domain and i didn't discuss it
  7. yeah, the 2021 gf was all a cgi deep fake
  8. can't you see that calling for someone to be sacked is a bit different to "commentary" i don't have any problems if barrett reported on other people suggesting pert's position was in danger etc and discussing reasons. that's reporting, not playing judge and executioner so personally. as for mro, no problem with discussing the issues, speculating on possible outcomes and others' opinions, but i think they should refrain from demanding (vs speculating) a certain outcome. but even if they do, this is quite different because the mro produce a judgement and penalty matrix which is meant to determine outcome, so all they would be doing is following an established process. i think your comparison attempt is a bit apples and oranges though anyhoo, i'm done with discussing barrett ... maybe i might start a petition for his sacking 😁
  9. think i might head to noosa and go into hiding then
  10. i blame juice newton for that
  11. great pickup, old55 and damnit, it's too old now to edit let's keep this between the two of us, ok?
  12. barretts comment was more than just an opinion (as others have pointed out to you) he has an obvious mission to get pert sacked and has called for it on a number of occasions lately, and none too subtly. the afl website is fully owned and is the responsibility of the afl. they do in fact exercise a lot of editorial oversight on it (when it suits them). Anyway, i never raised any questions on legalities, that was another poster it p155es me off that journos think they can tell clubs how they should be run, just to boost their brand career, and in this case all under the aegis of the afl. some in the media are just pushing their relationships with clubs a bit too far, too quick. the relationship between clubs and the media is rapidly changing (for the worse) and it's not just with the mfc. i still think brad should have a private chat with the afl (if he hasn't)
  13. i don't think you are comprehending what i am saying it has nothing to do with journos writing mean things - that's par for the course and a different issue it's about an afl paid journo on an official afl site calling personally and directly for a club executive to be sacked. that sort of interference in club governance needs clarification/action from the afl ... it's simply beyond the pale [this of course is a matter of principle and nothing to do with my opinion of pert's performance]
  14. one could easily draw that inference, wr if true it would be a very poor direction to take. if the afl want pert out they could talk to the board and other senior club stakeholders, or even directly to pert, but to use a sleazy cutout like barrett is a bit odious (even by afl standards) i can't see a brad green directly standing up to the afl over this though, especially being a stand-in pres
  15. it's a bit worrying how the media reporting seems to have shifted to reporting on what's happening in club land to a position where they are increasingly trying to directly influence club decisions it would be ok for barrett to report that there are rumblings about pert's future but for barrett to come out and unequivocally call for pert's dismissal on his advice is really overstepping the role of the press we are increasingly seeing the media interfering in club management and decision making rather than just reporting on it the blatant click whoring is just getting worse and worse
  16. definitely not his call, whether one thinks he's right or not on top of this, this report is on the afl official web site and barrett is employed and writing for the afl so what is the afl's responsibility in this? if i was the club i would be making a strong complaint to the afl
  17. barrett still doubling down on clarry and pert Barrett Just now IF ... the Dees tried to shut down the Clarry talk late last week ... THEN ... it hasn't gone away. He still desperately wants out. And the Cats will try something before Wednesday night's trade deadline. Whatever the outcome, this club cannot continue with Gary Pert as CEO.
  18. looks like she's slightly changed comment to Michelle Oliver he’s not even in Shep. Shep is NOT his home town. Get it right media.
  19. and that's why you'll never be a journo, layz
