i'm not worried mahoney will stick basically to his offer because it is essentially fair. eventually it will be accepted. crows won't let him go to the draft let's worry about other fish -
this is a good point you bring up and it is at the crux of the issue. the answer is pure jealousy and political bastardry. they cannot stand the probability that their arch enemy will bring about this momentous social change. a change they had hoped to use as a spearhead in the next election campaign. this is why shorten and labor jumped ship on a plebescite to thwart(delay) this change at this time. all the arguments about it being non-binding, a waste of money and a bitter hurtful campaign are all just red herrings magnified with propaganda by people afraid their opposition will go down in history with the credit complaints about wasting $120m. LMAO. I could sit here and write of countless Billions wasted by labor (and no doubt similarly by the libs) Fact is I will be voting yes, the majority of the country will vote yes, it will go to parliament and be voted into law, all before the current parliamentary term ends. Labor can eat their shorts. They had their chance before and badly baulked it. fact.

that only works if we give crows pick 6 and nothing else i.e. no second rounder therefore we effectively get pick 27 for jack

well that changes it a little, maybe a lot...........good pickup maybe then up the bluff factor and ask 1M/yr for 2 years mfc offers 1m + 1m + 0.5m + 0.5m others forced to offer 1m + 1m and run the risk he leaves after 2 years for nothing becomes more a case of russian roulette -

exactly. not only that, but the next year mfc could play hardball and for example pick him up for a 2nd round pick. not saying they would do that but no-one else would touch him so they probably could -

correct. but he would be within his rights (and pre-nominated min requirement) to only sign a 1 year contract , but with mfc he could happily sign for more years perfectly legally -
plenty of ways those clubs could acquire a low 20's pick. what they have now will be quite different part way through trade week

can you reword that. i didn't fully understand when jake nominates his required contract price/duration at either psd or nd it is a minimum requirement which the club he goes to must honour but could exceed (e.g. the duration) but jake is only obliged to agree to his minimum. it would be a brave club to take him on 1 year (at high price) knowing he will request a trade at end of year, and hoping they could turn him around during that year. his other option (not really likely) is to stand out of footy. not sure if it is for 1 year or 2 years now -
and i seem to remember gablett snr couldn't either - lol

if it goes to draft lever can set his price at 1M and 1 year contract. he can also make it clear that he will seek a trade after 1 year if he goes to any club other than melb (just like bucks did with bears). if he gets thru to melb he signs a contract for 4 years worth 3M with year 1 front-ended for 1M. nothing the afl can do about that. bottom line he gets to melb. only hitch is jake has to agree to tactic. -
