Caroline Wilson's descent into gutter journalism
Hazyshadeofgrinter replied to titan_uranus's topic in Melbourne Demons
Funny, I don't remember Gardner sacking people to give jobs to his mates and making dodgy loans with club money... Gardner is clearly upset about the tanking that has occurred because he cares about the club, not in spite of it. -

But you read the post I was replying to though, right? I mean, I quoted it for you and everything. Edit: Also, don't forget stat decs, etc. -

Gardner has never deserved the harsh treatment he gets on this forum. Like many people here, he cares deeply for the club and objects strongly to tanking. It can't have been easy for him to have to watch his successors run the club into the ground. -

You'd have to be pretty brave to commit perjury at this point. How could you possibly have any faith in your co-conspirators now? -

As well as multiple testimonies, there is evidence in writing. Not sure if Wilson or Clothier have it though. -

I'd rather my own club stayed in existence thanks. Would my conversion to the Pollyanna faction assist with this do you think? -

So you're still squibbing and now you're playing the man and not the ball because you've lost the contest. Pathetic. Face it, the current administration can't even lose properly. They are a bunch of ex-jocks and liniment sniffing groupies that are way out of their depth and they are ruining our club. Continuing to apologise for the current admin isn't standing up for the club - it is the opposite. You've never been able to separate the two. -

So he was either ignorant ("passively involved") and therefore incompetent, or just plain incompetent. Which one do you think it was? Also, whilst I'm not about to excuse Bailey for dropping a hint on his way out, I wonder if it ever would have happened if his sacking had been handled with even the slightest bit of professionalism. I can imagine what it would have been like to have had to justify your bad win/loss as a departing coach after being hung out to dry by a bunch of blokes who instructed you to lose games and then betrayed you in a private meeting where they decided to keep their interfering mate instead. He should have at least been given an opportunity to resign. -

I was referring to myself with the tanking is a good idea bit. -

So who handled it then huh? You think Stynes' legacy demands that we take action? This fiasco is his legacy. Why don't you take some of your own advice? -

What a joke, he was around for the last time we had a stuff up like this - on the receiving end. It's time you and others finally admitted that our club is being destroyed by a pack of unaccountable, incompetent, "boys club" mates and it has been this way since the Stynes board took over. The only thing that separates us from the other clubs that have been tanking is our sheer ineptitude. "The Vault" - that pretty much says it all doesn't it? Was the great privilege of running the MFC some kind of game to them? And this is all coming from someone who still thinks tanking is a good idea (me, that is). I imagine that you and others feel very similar to a lot of cycling fans at the minute. -

12 pages in and still no-one has been able to provide a satisfactory answer to the following questions: Given that the Board were about to sack Schwab last year, what has Schwab done since then that could possibly justify giving him a three year contract now? Given his patchy record, how does it benefit the club to give Schwab a three year contract instead of a standard ongoing employment contract with a notice period? Closing the thread now would only serve to illustrate my point. I won't be losing any sleep over it.

I would be disappointed if this thread were closed today. You are complicit in the "degeneration" of the thread as you continue to avoid the issues, ignore the facts and try to change the subject. It is difficult to have a "meaningful discussion" in such a climate, particularly with someone who makes accusations that they continually refuse to support and who refuses to directly address the arguments of their opponent. I am about ready to call it a day to be honest, but I have a few people to respond to and a few closing remarks to make before I do (and I don't have time to do this at the moment). It would be a shame for you to deny me this opportunity particularly when I have been so careful to avoid getting caught up in the abuse and irrelevance that has been directed at me from the moment I first posted in this thread. I note that your responsibilities as a moderator did not move you to comment on or to take action in any of these instances. I think if you are honest will admit to yourself that your true reason for wanting to close the thread is that you find it uncomfortable to be confronted by the facts and arguments that I am rasining. This is not responsible moderation, it is the equivalent of putting your fingers in your ears and having a tantrum.

Ain't it great how posting stats can help you to completely ignore the context and discussion surrounding an issue. Do you think anyone will notice? I think a report card would strike a better balance in terms of feedback. Here's mine: Comments: We had high hopes for Cameron when he arrived at the Melbourne Football School but 2012 was another disappointing year. It was especially concerning to see Cameron go backward in membership this year after the solid progress we saw from him in this subject previously. On a brighter note, Cameron has shown some enthusiasm, if not aptitude, for Art and Fashion. Many students were impressed by the new school logo and school blazers that Cameron designed. Unfortunately, these subjects were not part of Cameron's curriculum so they won't be included on his official academic record. Cameron was also part of a group recruitment project this year which has had some good results, although it must be said that most of the work was done by a new student, Mark, and another boy from outside of the school, Garry. Despite this, Cameron would have got a much higher mark for this subject if he had not cut corners and performed so badly on the General Manager – Player Development and Strategy component of the project. I continue to harbour serious concerns about Cameron's social development and he is reported to have been bullying some of the other children outside of his friendship group. As you know, this is a serious matter. Cameron was almost expelled for his inappropriate behaviour last year. Thank goodness he is related to the principle.

Coglin (I thought you were supposed to be big on spelling) can speak for himself. Your comments about the Gardner Board also speak for themselves when they are read in the light of the facts that I have provided (again). Funny how when I make a criticism of Schwab based on facts, you accuse me of being a wrecker with an "agenda" (whatever that means) but when you and others have a go at Gardner based on misinformation you are supposedly defending the club. In any case, I'm not going to be complicit in derailing the topic of this thread to be about the Gardner Board when it is supposed to be about Schwab's appointment. It's time you answered some of my questions.

As alluded to in my above response to Ben Hur, the “perilous state of the club” was much exaggerated. I suspect that the previous Board gave way because they knew they wouldn't stand a chance against a club legend like Stynes in a popular election anyway and they thought it would be best for the club to avoid a contested election. Some of the Board members sought assurances from Stynes before they left (this was before Stynes had even announced who he was planning to bring with him) and they were criticised for this in some quarters for not getting out of the way quick enough. At least one Board member offered to stay on (voluntary position remember) and help manage the transition but had his offer refused despite there being a vacancy on the new Board. I also want what is best for the Melbourne Football Club. It is a great shame that the club is as fractured as it is. We all want an effing flag.

If an internet football forum is not the right “time and place” to discuss your views on your football club's administration then I don't know where (and when?) is. You keep referring to a campaign against the Board and Cameron Schwab but you haven't really given much detail about this. Surely you are not referring to the contributions of a lone forum participant? My views are divisive because you do not share them. That is as much your fault as mine.

I guess I just don't see the tin rattle the way you do, I just don't think organising a charity drive is such an incredible achievement and I don't think resorting to begging is anything to be proud of. The success of the drive was primarily due to the generosity of the members and partly due to the charismatic figurehead of Stynes. The Debt Demolition began before Schwab was even at the club. If Schwab is the financial wizard that so many people on here make him out to be, we wouldn't still be holding the cap out over four years later. The Energy Watch deal and the Kaspersky deal are treated differently because they are different situations. Both situations were damning in different ways. What are the Webjet and Opel deals worth?
