  1. mongrel is an amazing website - very impressive analysis except I disagree Melbourne played "deliberately, cautiously". We had serious play on intent with rapid ball movement looking to run through the corridor when possible, otherwise attacking via the flanks/pockets. We lacked caution and played instinctive attacking football.
  2. The free to Rooey in the last was dodgy. The Swan had no prior opportunity...but they paid several against us that way as well.
  3. Hopeful, rather than confident today. Sixteen of the premiership players present, plus Hunter so 17 from the GF, No shortage of talent but the Swans have had the wood on us. Need a big game from Trac, Clarry and May/Lever. Pity no Kozzie. Hopefully he's learned.

Definitely worse about losing to the Lions, particularly as that is two in a row, but they got us at a good time and in a good place for them. Interesting that most of the tipsters in The Age have stayed with us for this week. Possibly they judge that last week was an aberration for our midfield down to Max's injury, the conditions and that weird thing that sometimes infects all teams of a generalised down game through the entire group. We are expected to regroup. Given it's Sydney, a win is not guaranteed but a cracking game is.
  5. Which is why the merger chapter in Between The Flags matters so much.
  6. Also, you might remind Hawthorn supporters that it was Melbourne that killed their first attempt at a three-peat when we beat them twice in successive weeks - round 22 and the elimination final 1990.
  7. No, we did not vote 'Yes' - the vote was riddled with irregularities and dubious conduct.
  8. Something about his manner suggest he still lacks the maturity to apply himself to fulfil his potential. Raw talent will go only so far. The AFL is full of talent, but then it becomes a matter of application to draw the best out of yourself. LJ is not there yet. He is a bit of a doofus surviving on talent alone and may need a rocket to turn himself around. Rabid Freo fans will not cut him much slack so if it doesn't come from inside the club it will still come. Then we will discover whether we have won or lost on his departure.
  9. American Pie for God's sake. Pretentious [censored]. Who chooses their music?
  10. No forward structure. Lost our system entirely.
  11. Angus having a shocker.
  12. Interesting to reflect that under today's rules we would have won. Eishold would not have been put on that ridiculous angle and instead would have been marched out to the top of the goal square to nail down the coffin.
  13. I would just like to thank you all for sharing your Borethorn schadenfreude. And those who are yet to contribute, thank you in advance.
  14. Not smart either, coming as the legal cases for concussion compensation fire up. Still, the inconsistency with Buddy' penalty is annoying. How many times has Buddy been reported/rubbed out? The way certain clubs are treated is truly weird. Michael Christian must go. He is no good and never has been any good.
  15. He king his Steven Smith as well. Could not stop himself. Astonishing the career he has had when you think how Muir was treated.
  16. Media are headhunting now. Such enthusiasm to see Kossie rubbed out by ABC, Kane Cornes....suddenly an example must be made. There is a real appetite for it. I fear for the effect this will have.
  17. Never impressed with us. That solitary goal last night was more than he showed for us at any point.

    Notch above last night.
  19. These (CW, JN, MG) are the same people who started our premiership year describing us as "guilty until proven innocent" and laffing their heads off. Care factor for their opinions? Zero. (Less than zero of possible.)
  20. Wherever it is, he is not the answer.
  21. As another of our hard at it midfielders, Jack Viney can be replaced, to a point. As a beast of a player who tackles with intent and effect, and as a determined and inspirational leader...well, none of the alternative "hard at it mids" quite match that, so no, he is not exactly replaceable although we can and do win without him.
  22. Breath taking in its arrogance. And the MCC members? What were they doing all those years? An utter crock served up by CK and EM. And that's without mentioning the Cain Government which oversaw the Southern Stand rebuild by offering loan guarantees. I remember John Cain fretting over what the public would think when they realised the stand would hang over Brunton Avenue. (They hardly noticed)
  23. Wonderful photo. Brilliant guernsey unsullied by sponsor labels. HB Ron!
  24. Truly a waste of space, time and oxygen.
  25. In that brief period of the 3rd where they pinched a couple of goals back they were borrowing from the slingshot from halfback style Clarkson used to slice us up a couple of years back, and actually looked like they were playing to a template for beating us, but it was not sustained and the Dees reasserted control. Other than that, I agree.
