PODCAST: Rd 13 vs Collingwood
I did some reseaarch this afternoon about previous premiers. Apart from Hawthorn in 2015, and ignoring 2020 which was so impacted by COVID, all other sides since 2014 have perfromed worse in the middle of the season compared to the rest. Melbourne 2021 had the biggest drop off, Richmond 2017 close behind. I was surprised that Melbourne last year was the most dominate season in that time. It's more than possible to win premierships while also losing 6 or 7 games during the home and away season.

2022 Injury List
Daw and Weeds to come in to share the ruck with LJ (Gawn and M. Brown out). The timing of this injury (and TMac’s ) is better than it happening in round 19 or 20.

2022 The Run Home - Predictions
Why do you feel it was very important? We all love to beat the magpies but that doesn’t necessarily make it important does it? Yes, we’re not playing at the level we saw late last year but even with the loss we are effectively equal first with 9 rounds to go. Well positioned with plenty of time to get things right (whatever your individual take on what is currently not right).

Caro Apologise to Dees Fans
I think you are missing the point that my comment had nothing to do with Caro saying it was Melbourne supporters that booed Pendles (which is obviously a mistake as he got booed on an Anzac Day game). I was responding to Pates more general comment that Melbourne supporters wouldn’t boo a player for being named BOG.

Caro Apologise to Dees Fans
I think you might have rose coloured glasses on. Perhaps a generation or two ago it might have been different, but nowadays all clubs have all sorts of supporters. Varying degrees perhaps, but I think in the same situation (euphoria after a big win, disappointment the award didn’t go to our own player), there would have been audible boos also.

I prefer the good old "effort" reason. If only the players just tried harder it will all work out.

Are we as fit as last year ?
You don't see the similarities to this time last year? Perhaps you should go and watch last years QB game to remind you.

Are we as fit as last year ?
Collingwood are a much better team this year than last, and this year we were missing May, TMac and had others that were banged up or returning from injury. So imo, last year was more dissappointing. Our cumlative outcome from those rounds was 4W-1D-4L, so we were a 50:50 team that put in some very poor performances. Injuries have had an impact but in no way explains the lack of run we have had by fit players, run which is key to executong our gameplan. We had a shorter preseason this time round, which is why I am even more certain that we are exploiting our 10-0 start to the season to get as fit as possible now for the run home to the finals. I fully expect to be clearly struggling with fatigue for 4 or 5 games after the bye also. I also think "statement" games were far more important last year to get the players to believe in the game plan, and it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest that we primed the team for the mid season games against the Bulldogs and Brisbane. It is far less important this year with the belief that is there after winning the premiership last year, meaning we were ok to risk losing games against other contenders with the bigger prize in mind.

Are we as fit as last year ?
We were even more dissapointing on QB last year than yesterday and went 4W-1D-4L round 10-19, so by what measure did we "carry through this period last year"?

POSTGAME: Rd 13 vs Collingwood
@binman has talked about it in other threads, but it seems related to the way players and teams never make excuses, even if there are genuine and impactuful injuries or illness. Also I reckon it's part the veil of secrecy teams like to have, hiding selection, late changes, anything that could posibly give the oppisition an advantage. Yes, it would help ease fans anxiety, but I think this stuff will only be confirmed years after the event other than in cryptic, vague refrences.

https://webplayer.whooshkaa.com/show/1940?theme=light&episode=1008299 Hopefully that link works to the Nathan Jones segment on Dwayne Russells (🤮) show. Poor Dwayne wanted Jones to say something negative about Melbourne but Nathan gave him very little. Basically says yes they would want to be playing better but it's June so no need to panic. Definitely hinted loading off field may be happening.

If you and @Fork 'em are so sure of yourself, go to the Run Home Prediction thread and make a prediction of what happens from here.

Are we as fit as last year ?
Why? What is different to this time last year when he was here? https://www.afl.com.au/afl/matches/3072#match-report - Match Report from Queens Birthday game 2021 (reminder that Collingwood were a worse side last year and we had had a better run with injuries) "disappointing Dees side" "they struggled to string together any consistent fluency in attack, and appeared flat" "looked sluggish at times throughout the game"

Are we as fit as last year ?
Not true for all of last year. 4W-1D-4L in the middle of the season and we were terrible in some of those losses. At our best what you said is true, but we simply were not at the best all of last year.

Welcome to Demonland: James Jordon
I thought he was one of our best yesterday against Collingwood. His stat sheet is very impresive for a youngster finding his way. Team high for Metres Gained and Score Involvements. 29 disposals at 82.8% efficiancy.

Collingwood supporters BOOING Clarry
It wasn’t that bad. They were disappointed it did t go to one of their own (Cox or Mihocek) and we’re expressing their displeasure at the voters rather Clarry I thought.

My 3 word player analysis v Collingwood

2022 The Run Home - Predictions
I thought it would be fun to have a predictions only thread. There are so many threads full of the discussion about where we are at now and where we are heading, so I don't think we need another thread that contains that stuff. I would like this to simply be predictions, no back and forth or analysis. Firstly, our W/L after round 19 (18 games played). Round 19 is when we had our last loss in 2021 and breaks up the run home approximately in half. Then an end of season W/L (22 games). And then a finals prediction, with or without detail. Round 19 - 12W-6L - I'm fully expecting to continue to struggle, so I think we go 2-3 over the next 5 games. Round 22 - 15W-7L - We'll start to come good, but its a tough draw so we'll go 3-1. Finals - Premiership - Finish 5th after H/A. Solid but not outstanding win against a team like Collingwood who have scrapped into the finals. Much stronger win against Sydney or Carlton in week 2, who have had great seasons to finsih top 4 but don't have anything left come September. Big win over the prentenders Geelong in the prelim who get found out again. And then a big win the grand final against Brisbane who finally go well in September but are really no match for Melbourne. Have at it.

POSTGAME: Rd 13 vs Collingwood
Oliver, Brayshaw and Jordan very good yesterday. Oiver and Brayshaw, well, we all know how good they are, but Jordan has really stepped it up and is now a very good player. I'm sure many here are commited to doom and gloom, and are currently kicking the can down the road while almost tripping over their bottom lips. That's your choice. I actually have very few concerns about where we're at. Given key players missing (May and TMac to a lesser extent), injuries during the game and the quality of Collingwood this year compared to last, I actually think were better yesterday than last year. There's every chance we go 2-3 or 3-2 over the next 5 games (and won't Demonland be a happy place 😂😂😂), but I am still very confident that we will still be the team to beat in September. Burgess may have left, but we are still preparing ourselves exactly the same way. It of course doens't guarantee success, but it gives us the very best chance.

Low Attendance
Our crowds are UP from pre-covid crowds. One of only two teams to have increased (which the author mentions in the third last paragraph of https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/afl-crowds-slump-to-lowest-levels-in-26-years-excluding-covid-seasons-20220523-p5anq3.html). Crowd numbers is a league wide issue which is affecting MFC far less than 16 other clubs. And winning a premiership doesn't magically produce instant supporters. It takes more than 6 months from a premiership to see significant upturn in raw supporter numbers. I also wonder if there is a big difference in the mindset and arousal levels at the mid-year mark of supporters supporting a teams that most consider a lock for top 2 to those supporting teams hoping for a finals position.

Steven May Suspended by the Club
I'm more surprised that all of these sort of incidents (and even rumours of events) aren't thoroughly investigated by the AFL as good governance. Surely as soon as an whisper of off field event comes to light, shouldn't the AFL be on the phone to clubs to find out whats gone on? This announcement of an investigtion seems to be nothing than pandering to the media.

We will murder the filth on Monday.
I think we are a club now that wants to make statements in September, not mid-June. As long as we make no compromises to that long term goal, then sure, a win would be nice. As dissappointing the May event is, and as annoying it is to be under the media spotlight for all the wrong reasons at the moment, at the end it is nothing but fugazi.

Jake Melksham to miss Round 13
Good to see we are owning it all rather than blaming playing with a dog or a rogue frisbee.

Steven May Suspended by the Club
The measure of how this incident has affected, or defines us as a club can't be looked at by just the outcome of the game on Monday. We have to have a bigger perspectie than that. The next 4 months will give a greater perspective, but even then, when it comes to questions of culture, even that is too short a view.
