The payout figure on his contract to do it this year is about $3m and that comes out of the softsap, if they did that, think of how many support staff they'll lose.

Were any of those academy players originally from our zone before the change by the AFL?

A potentially great player for the club, but best in 1 position that is really crowded at the moment. I know we want to keep him, but is it the best thing for his personal career. At this stage I would say no. Being out of contract I dont know if we would get his real value if he decides to leave.

Still a lot of movement in that part of the ladder, but we'll get a really good pick considering what we would have had coming into this year. Topping up on some high end talent will prolong our time in contention.

He is a calm and very smart footballer. I think on stats he is the least beaten players in the league 1:1. Unlikely to win the rising star, but he's the natural replacement for Hibbo on those super dangerous small/med forwards we have been looking for.

He's broken and needs a break from AFL level to recover and get form back. Last game 87% game time playing mid/wing for 6 possessions. But Wie can't / won't drop him to help him. They will need to live with his heavily backended contract like lots of their broken stars, or they are going to have a fire sale wore then the pies.

You can't say that for certain, as in reality the success of the coach is really linked to the playing group and the organisation behind him. We improved when we got our house in order and finally got a great recruiter and better development.

Hence why I believe it was a weird decision to get him in with what they paid for him. He didn't fit their team balance. they already lost 1 decent ruck when bringing him in plus other first 22 players. As for us losing to them, it was the same as last year when Freo has that purple patch of wins and then dropped away. We should have won, but didn't. Interesting to see what free do at the end of the season. Even more interesting in the approach they will now take till the end of this season, will they continue to push hard and experiment with new players/setups ready or next year.
