Oliver to have surgery on BOTH shoulders!
He might struggle to swim his 100 km this off season

MFC - the original owner of the MCG
That's my understanding as well. I've a vague recollection of an interview on World of Sport with Wayne Read, the MFC president of the day outlining the reasons for the split

Why we hate the Hawks
That's the heart of it. They've become what we were in our glory days of the '50's and '60's I don't hate Hawthorn. I admire and respect them and a lot of my favourite non-Melbourne players over the years have been Hawks Their supporters though - for the most part - give me the sh!ts. I knew about 3 of them growing up and now the bandwagoners are everywhere. If ever someone tells me they barrack for Hawthorn I always ask who their first team was. Add to that the fact that Glenferrie Oval used to be Range Rover Central and I'm pretty sure that the overwhelming majority of snow-goers are "Hawthorn barrackers". I wonder if my mum and her Demon mates were as smug as those pricks back in our heyday.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BRAYDON PREUSS
Agreed. I understand our interest in him. I can't however understand his interest in us. He's signing on to a gig at Casey

Who do we realistically target for a trade?
I thought he'd signed for another four years after his initial 6 year contract. I'd suspect he'd be well compensated but nowhere near the level of his original deal. Unlikely to be a salary cap dump option. Maybe he went somewhere to just check out the facilities while he's been injured

Count me in again Simple and fun comp this. As well as being a lot more challenging than it looks to pick up points. Get on board ! Steelers Titans Bengals

Bernie Vince Retires
Would have loved to see him play a final in red & blue. Hope he feels he's accomplished what he set out to achieve when he decided to join us. He & Crossy in particular have been immense when it came to turning the club around on field. So glad he got to play his 100th game for us. Thanks Bernie

He'll have played too many games. I believe it's under 21 years old and less than 10 games at the start of the season

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CLAYTON OLIVER
I can go back to the '70's. Most of the best midfielders I've seen for us are wingers. Flower, Johnson, Alves & Tingay chief among them. To use an old term the best centreman / ruck rover types (which is the category I put Oliver in for the purpose of comparison) are IMO Viney and for a couple of years Brian Wilson. Better than both of them was Greg Wells. You can argue that he hasn't gone past those three yet but we are reflecting on their careers and he's played just over 50 games. I believe that by the time he chalks up 100, the question won't need asking. He'll be a mile in front The Jedi reference is good - even as recently as the last 3 weeks he's done something in each game that's left me gobsmacked. His ball control at pace is unbelievable

James Harmes take a bow.
Yep, that's queue I need to line up in as well

Andrew Gaff
Pretty sure it's a coaches award, not a mum's award. Gaff was one of the best on ground & instrumental in setting up the win. Before the incident. He will get a penalty, likely severe and he will deserve it Doesn't deserve the crucifixion that's been going on in the last 24 hours bit no doubt it will continue

Mark Basics [edit: resurrected from 2013]
Thought of you as soon as he said it. It's a [censored] disgrace that he's still doing it after this long in the AFL system

Norf have been rabbiting on about their "war chest" for the past couple of years. Saints would have e fair bit of breathing space in their cap post Reiwoldt & Montagna

Jordan De Goey
Change of personnel and change of role. WCE have lost their two main clearance players from last year in Priddis and Mitchell to retirement. So Gaff is one of those filling that gap. Agree he is not lightning but he runs both ways from pocket to pocket and does so relentlessly

Many, many years ago I met Mark in a pub. Nice bloke and an absolutely massive, massive unit. I'm 6'2" and I felt like I only came up to his chest. Was like having a beer with a tree- Andrew Gaff
Bollocks. He is out of contract, not a free agent. Port would demand the world for him.- Andrew Gaff
I've switched sides on Gaff. Didn't want him. However he's playing a lot more inside this season & goes when it's his turn while still providing run & carry. He's not particularly quick but he provides relentless running and makes good decisions with the footy. We need to add this. I'd love Isaac Smith or Jack Macrae but they're not obtainable. Gaff might be.- WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHARLIE SPARGO
Disagree with this. Garlett has been in the game for 10 years and over that period has been one of the most consistent small forwards around. Including his time at Carlton. His 2014 was a complete bomb but I was informed by someone at the the Blues that this was mainly due to off-field family issues. Then Malthouse had his fire sale. No doubt his form was off for 2 weeks. Perhaps form, desire, our crap forward setup & entries - who knows. Conditions perhaps ? When he was young I recall him being good in the wet (I always feared him when we played Carlton) but recently he's been the worst wet tracker since Let's Elope I hope he finds touch real quick. With the forward line we could have, I would love to see Charlie and Jeffy creating havoc amongst it Lies, damned lies & statistics. Nonetheless, here are some Garlett stats.
