A 196cm goal kicking forward who played senior footy at a good standard this year and who has good endurance, is let go by a club with a shortage of key forwards and a main one who is injured and doesn’t want to be there. What do the Bombers know that we don’t, or was it purely a salary cap issue? On face value it is a good get for us.

Quite possible, as next year or two can often see teenagers develop late in height and build. I think Garry Lyon for example grew about 7-8 cms at about 18-19. A mate of mine grew 10cms in his last teenage year.

We make the finals for example, by one game, not having lost the regular next game after Darwin and calculate the difference in revenues from finals participation, gate, sponsorship, membership, merchandise, attracting new players, which in turn increases the preceding items again. Also what if substitute game is say a home game against Bombers for example, the gate alone for that would cover the Darwin game.

From the proceeds of a game in Melbourne with ticket sales, sponsorship etc and a better finish to the year increased membership etc.

I am excited about Rivers. I had not considered him available to us with our last pick and after taking him looked at his highlights and read more about him. I know highlights are pretty useless, as even I had one or two way back when, but this kid seems to have some real attributes. He is a nice size and can go hard at the ball, then is able at least in the highlights, to give off accurately and quickly . He can cover ground with his kicking and has some pace. Have a feeling this kid could be ok for us.

Yes I know that, but to play a high level physical sport in those conditions is ridiculous enough but to then have the disadvantage of having to fly home, recover and play again in a short break is totally unacceptable. Thankfully we have finally come to our senses and put our players first and short term financial gains second.

I have just come from Darwin and am now in Cairns and I hope this doesn’t make me a racial profiler, but I look at every young indigenous boy I see and wonder if they can play footy. We certainly did the right thing ending the Darwin game. It must be debilitating for the players.

I am upset about Kemp for 2 reasons. First I think he could become a very good player and second that Carlton got any new players at all.

Do that and you could have Robertson and that would shut a lot of criticism down. Only one club to pass on him then needed.

Apparently yesterday someone noticed some horns starting to grow on Pickett’s head.

If it’s true that he hasn’t run for 6 months, it would not be difficult to see him missing most, if not all of the season. Playing any games this year might be a bonus.

Jetta won’t be on our list in 3-5 years, unless you mean he could become an assistant coach or have some other role at the MFC.

If we are taking Pickett, then I hope Sydney take him, so we won’t have to revisit the draft over and over if Kemp becomes a star.
