Hawthorn Demons
I've kept the literature we received from the club at the time, including a brochure with the new jumper designs and new theme song. There's also a proxy vote for the merge option, but not the other proxy. I sent that one in, but to no avail as it turns out. Horrible time in my supporting life and I said back then I'd rather finish bottom every year than merge and become The Dawks. It's funny to look at now, but apparently we had the players and Hawthorn had the money.

VarDee video
If you're looking for Vardy's goals, he kicked three in a row in the last quarter when it was raining cats and hounds.

Best Interstate Recruits - since 1970
I looked it up and turns out he was from Tassie - a true Van Demon, but I never realised that. Lou Richards described him as "Biffin by name and biffin' by occupation"! One day at Moorabbin when it was blowing a gale to the Nepean Hwy end, Biff spent the entire game in the same goal square, playing as full-forward when we had the wind and as full-back when kicking against it. One of my all-time favourites.

Best Interstate Recruits - since 1970
Where was Biffin from, spirit? Nice list, BTW.

GAME 6: Demonland's Best/Favourite Demon 1988-2020 - Tingay vs Jakovich
Despite the numbers on Demonland, Tingay prevailed (just) by 368 votes to 364.
-
GAME 8: Demonland's Best/Favourite Demon 1988-2020 - Davey vs Febey
I've voted for Davey, but have the utmost respect for Febey. Odd trivia: Steve was the only Demon to play in our losing Grand Finals in 1988 and 2000.

Can anyone help identify any of these players?
Crikey Old Goat, you accuse me of a lack of knowledge then go on to describe Eishold as "a great player". He wasn't great, he was a foot soldier and no better than average. That shot wasn't tough, especially for a "great" player. We have a different opinion. C'est la vie. I would have slotted it, since you ask! ?

I can recall that, years later, Eishold revealed that the occasion got to him and that his legs turned to jelly. Any suggestion that it was a tough shot is ludicrous. There are no excuses for his terrible miss from so close.

Would ya take a punt on Paddy?
I'm surprised this hasn't been posted already.

1988 Elimination Final
Who is this Bill you speak of, Rusty?

The 50 Best Games of the Last 50 Years
Our magnificent win over the Suns last year could be one of the three by my reckoning.

Would ya take a punt on Paddy?
To be fair, Plugger is many, many years past his prime.
-
1988 Elimination Final
There was a Darren "Daisy" Williams that played for Essendon. Our David was nicknamed "Dirty".

Would ya take a punt on Paddy?
Did the newbie who started this thread not see the other one already in existence? ?

Would ya take a punt on Paddy?
I wouldn't recruit him and I also wouldn't write TMac off at this early stage.

1988 Elimination Final
How odd was it seeing people in the crowd smoking cigarettes!

1988 Elimination Final
What would you see as the benefits of this arrangement, MFM?

Coronavirus: AFL & MFC
Despite the Covid-19 situation and its attendant angst, I find myself feeling less stressed than how I would normally be when following the mighty Demons each week. That could be a reflection on myself, the team, or possibly both. I"m probably very much in the minority on this forum, but I wouldn't mind terribly if there's no footy this year.

1988 Elimination Final
Funny how we remember things differently. My recollection of 'Dirty' Williams is that he was a clever player who used the ball well, but never got a lot of it in the first place - more of an opportunist, I suppose, than a stats accumulator.

GAME 4: Demonland's Best/Favourite Demon 1988-2020 - Farmer vs Lovett
Gotta be The Wiz, but Glenn Lovett was another very talented player who was cruelled by injuries.

1988 Elimination Final
Johnson clearly our best player by far. Gotta chuckle at Sandy Roberts' use of the term "effective scoring shots". I wonder what would constitute an ineffective one.

1988 Elimination Final
The commentators mentioned that Jimmy had changed out of his no. 11. Not sure why, maybe it got ripped or something. Can't understand why the Eagles weren't in white shorts that day. It's also glaring how the 'deliberate out of bounds' rule wasn't enforced very often in those days.

On the available evidence, I think it's clearly Jeremy Nichols.

Reflections on the 2006 Elimination Final
I think it was in the first game the following season that he busted his foot and lost any pace he ever had. ? EDIT: Brock McLean that is, not Hogan2014's unfortunate son.

Reflections on the 2006 Elimination Final
That number 5 looks alright. Clearly an all-time Demon champ and future captain.
