  1. Yes and yes! I was expecting to hear from yourself and @WalkingCivilWar, cryptic fans both. Some clues are easier than others. Some are surname only, others both names included. They also have something in common but that's not the object of the puzzle.
  2. The quiz posted by @Roger Mellie has inspired me to saddle up the old grey matter and take 'er for a ride. Below is a list of ten cryptic clues, the answer to each being a Melbourne listed player since the year 2000. PLEASE READ: a) Reply by PM only. Don't blurt out answers or guesses on this page, please. b) Don't be greedy and hog all the glory. There is a limit of two (2) correct answers per poster at this stage. 1. Ales investor is drunk. (6,6) Oliver Sestan 2. Scratchier captain irritated. (9, 8) Christian Petracca 3. Turns alternative. (7) Windsor 4. Floral mutton chop. (3, 9) Tom Fullarton 5. Ant prehistory analysed. (8,5) Harrison Petty 6. Sarin alchemist formula. (9,5) Christian Salem 7. Box and run. (6) Spargo 8. Box and fight. (7) Sparrow 9. Yachts briefly changed course. (6,7) Bayley Fritsch 10. A banjo conveyor shattered. (5, 9) Jacob van Rooyen
  3. Memorable goal. Crucial goal. Match winning goal. Inspirational goal. Jump out of your seat goal. BUT ... it was a relatively simple set shot from in front and only great because of the context. Had it been the first quarter it wouldn't even be in consideration for one of the goals for the year. * humbug mode now deactivated *
  4. Thanks for sharing this, @spirit of norm smith. We've had some great marks at Melbourne over the years (Neeld notwithstanding).
  5. Happy New Year to all Demonlanders. Here's hoping we can all revel in 2024 Premiership glory for the mighty Demons. Did anybody else score a ticket for this wonderful event last night? It was superb!
  6. Thank you. I think it's one of my better cut and pastes.
  7. Q: How many Demonlanders does it take to change a light bulb ? 1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed. 14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently. 7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs. 6 to argue over whether it’s ‘lightbulb’ or ‘light bulb’. Another 6 to condemn those 6 as stupid. 22 to tell THOSE 6 to stop being jerks. 5 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is ‘lamp.’ 15 know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry, and that ‘light bulb’ is perfectly correct. 49 to post memes and gifs (several are of Michael Jackson eating popcorn with the words added, “I’m just here for the comments.”) 19 to post that this page is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a light bulb page. 11 to defend the posting to this page saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts are relevant here. 24 to discuss the merits of LED/swirly fluorescent light bulbs 44 to claim LED and fluorescent bulbs will kill you. 12 to post F. 8 to ask what F means. 7 to post ‘Following’ but there’s 3 dots at the top right that means you don’t have to. 15 to say “can’t share” 2 to reply “can’t share just copy paste” 36 People to post pics of their own light bulbs. 15 People to post “I can’t see S$%^!” and use their own light bulbs. 6 to report the post or PM an admin because someone said “f÷×$” 4 to say “Didn’t we go through this already a short time ago?”. 13 to say “Do a search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs.” 3 Admins to ban the light bulb posters who took it all too seriously. 1 late arrival to comment on the original post 6 months later and start it all over again. 20 to give up on fb and take their dogs for a walk. Then somebody says they’re leaving group, and someone says this isn’t an airport, no need to announce your departure.
  8. Shouldn't she be saying "There are" or "There have" if she's referring to a plural?
  9. Ah, this is why. https://cricketresolved.com/arm-sleeves-why-do-cricketers-wear-them/#:~:text=Arm Sleeves Offer Protection,of players getting field bruises
  10. Any idea what the full sleeve bandages that players from both teams are wearing are all about?
  11. I've known quite a few dockers in my time and I can assure you that some of them were absolute animals.
  12. I hope you all did better than me this year.
  13. I hope it's OK to post this article here. It dovetails with the training camp and hopefully largely avoids any taboo content. https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/it-s-all-people-are-talking-about-inside-the-demons-plan-to-regain-respect-20231221-p5eswx.html
  14. I thought @WERRIDEE may have compiled a serious list until I noticed Nickelback ahead of greats like Hendrix, CCR, Pink Floyd, The Who et al. Come on man. Nickelfarkingback? You've got to be kidding!
  15. People who confuse entomology and etymology bug me in a way that I cannot put into words.
  16. That's two boys, named George and Louis. If the Gawns have another child and it's a girl, I predict they'll call her Charlotte.
  17. If you want to feel old, just work out what age you'll be if Tommy Green ever plays for MFC.
  18. John went to Brisbane but Ted did not.
  19. With so many Demonlanders living in the Caulfield area, we could start a franchise.
  20. If the reasons were personal, that means they were private. In other words, it's none of your business or my business or anybody else's business.
  21. Wasn't sure which thread this news belongs in, but Bailey Smith of the Western Bulldogs has ruptured his ACL (confirmed by the club) and will miss the 2024 season. It's a horrible injury that I wouldn't wish on any player from any club.
