  1. THE FAT CHRONICLES - CUT AND RUN by The Oracle

    ...

One player who interests me is Port Adelaide's Ben Jacobs who indicated during the exchange period that he wanted to return home to Victoria and nominated North Melbourne as his preferred club. The Kangaroos stuffed Melbourne around over the Pedersen deal for the better part of a fortnight trying to extract a better (and ultimately, non-existent) draft pick to secure Jacobs so it would be a touch ironical if he found his way to the Demons. The club could certainly do with another midfielder so one assumes they would be open to persuading him to come across via the pre season draft where only the two new franchises stand ahead of the Demons. This places the club in a good position to snare him if something could be worked out with his management.

Oracle, if only you ran the show at the MFC.

Getting Jacobs in the PSD would be a magnificent coup and would go a long way to offsetting the loss of high draft picks like Morton and Gysberts for peanuts.

Do you think the FD could pull something like that off?

  2. WJ/JJC

Below is off the West Adelaide website of where the game is going to be shown live:

    Melbourne:

The Charles Dickens Tavern - 290 Collins St Melbourne (Ph 03 9654 1821)

The Fleece Hotel, 120 Montague St, South Melbourne (Ph 03 9682 0208)

Nothing as yet if it will be shown online anywhere, if it is I'll post on here....

    Cheers

    Thanks stinga.

I went to the Charles Dickens a few years ago when Jack Trengove played in the grannie for Sturt and with all due respect it's a bit of a dungeon (literally) and the food was just ...

Anyone been to the Fleece and can we get some Demon support going for the Redlegs there?

  3. I'd be interested to know the story regarding his injuries. Butcher was once aligned with Tom Whatsisname as likely to go 1/2 in the 2009 National Draft but he drifted out late in the year due to problems with his form and with injuries. He then took until late 2011 to make his debut and caught everybody off guard with a couple of bags of goals. However, he seems to have gone completely off the radar with only 8 games and 11 goals this year.

The other thing is that I notice Port Adelaide also rookied his younger brother Danny from Gippsland Power (0 games) so I'm not sure about the homesickness story.

Obviously, the worry would be that we would be getting an injury prone player whose future is uncertain. I suppose that might possibly make a swap for Jurrah a reasonable proposition.

The other worry coming from this source is that the Pennski file on Seinfield wasn't particularly the place to which one could go for reliable information.

It would surely be ironic if we end up with Butcher after losing Scully.

  5. I just lost interest.

Probably all hype let him sing for the Pies.

Concentrate on the cousin Lucas I say.

    No go with Lucas.

He tried out with the Western Jets this year and was caught stealing the coach's car during a training session.

Was sentenced to six months at Port Phillip prison just last week.

  6. DARKEST HOURS: 1953 by Whispering Jack

    ...

Much appreciated as always Demonland and WJ. I noticed some negative feedback from the Bluey Truscott night thread about Cam Schwab's emphasis in many of his speeches about the history and heritage of the Melbourne Football Club but I'm one of those who believes it is essential to imbue that richness into the members, supporters, staff and the players.

Historically, club was the first of its kind. We wrote the rules and we got it started. We really do stand for something and the players should know they are forging something special as the team develops a new future. And, yes ... we've done this (coming from rock bottom to the top) before.

On that note, might I introduce a new book by Dr Mark Pennings

Colourful origins of AFL revealed in new book

Australian Rules Football's earliest rivalry between 'toffee-nosed' Melbourne supporters and a 'democratic' Carlton club helped turn a middle-class gentlemen's game into an iconic sport, a new book shows.

Well most of us are no longer toffee nosed but we're thirsting for long-awaited success. Bring it on!

  7. Melbourne circles Sharrod Wellingham as Collingwood midfielder remains unsigned

We're all over him according to to Jon Ralph, which means he's probably headed anywhere but Melbourne, but read into it what you will.

The fact that it comes from Jon Ralph and not the office copy boy who only got a gig because a couple of real journalists have moved on from the paper lends the story a bit more credibility. However, I prefer stories such as these when they become fait accompli and not when they're journalistic scuttlebutt.

Collingwood is still in the finals and there's still much water to flow under the bridge ...

  8. Apparently we spoke to only 3 potential coaches. Those potential coaches didn't include Sanderson, or Chris Scott.

We could win a flag next year and I wouldn't be convinced we followed good process.

Why would we speak to Chris Scott. He was about to win the flag in his first season as coach of Geelong.

Unless we're aware of what went on in the decision-making process, we're not really in a position to criticise what went on.
