Is there anything of significance in that observation that the Herald Sun can use to base another story about the club and its culture?

A FINAL NOD TO RON by Whispering Jack
Castlemaine is a lovely part of the world. I lived there for a while but it was badly hit by a drought some years ago. Ron never played for Castlemaine but it produced some great VFL/AFL footballers: ā¢ Jack āSkinnyā Titus, Richmond (VFL), 1926-1943 (294 games). ā¢ Ronald āRonā James Barassi Snr (VFL), 1936ā1940 (58 games). ā¢ Warren "Wow" Jones, Carlton and St Kilda (VFL), 1978ā85 (123 games). ā¢ Rod Keogh, Melbourne and St Kilda (VFL/AFL), 1989-1998 (82 games). ā¢ Dustin Martin, Richmond (AFL), 2010-present (289 games). ā¢ Kane Farrell, Port Adelaide (AFL), 2018-present (33 games). In the 2009 AFL draft, Melbourne chose Tom (?) and Jack Trengove with the first two picks of the draft. Dustin Martin was third pick.

Sounds like Clarrie finally got the memo from the club :)

Casey Demons Best & Fairest
Of course it helps if you play every game in the season. How did AMW go?

Colby McKercher
Anyone think itās possible that we could maneuver our way to a position whereby we could pick two of Duursma, McKercher and Sanders?

The Neal-Bullen non goal
My concern with faceless officials making decisions such as these is the random way with which events can be picked up and decisions arrived at which can influence the outcome of a game. In addition, thereās the question of where you draw the line. If you can review goals that have been missed by your on field officials ā four field umpires, two goal and two boundary umpires, then why not review whether a player in the vicinity was pushed in the back or taken high? There are enough officials on the ground as it is without complicating the game further with these reviews.

The Neal-Bullen non goal
Could someone please explain how the review of Alex Neal-Bullenās ānon goalā worked? It was paid as a goal. The ball was taken to the centre and then a review took place in which it was deemed to have been touched after a quick review. I thought it was inconclusive.

CASEY:Ā EF vs Footscray
No way do Salem or Joel Smith who have been regularly playing for Melbourne in the second half of the season, get to play VFL this week.
-
CASEY: Wild Card vs North Melbourne
Iām disappointed that it had to come to this for Casey and for Melbourne. If Casey loses this week then thereās nowhere for the fringe players to get a decent form of competitive match practice while the seniors are playing AFL finals.

2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Amazing to think that the National Draft is still three months away.

THE LAST TIME THEY MET
Our last two games have been repeat matches against teams we beat easily earlier this year. We beat North by 90 points the first time but struggled against them for half a game and won by 32 points in the end the second time. We beat Carlton by 61 to 44 the first time but they really mauled us in the first quarter and we couldnāt get over them in the end on Saturday. Whatās with our slow starts and reversal of form lately? Is there reason to worry?

How far away is Matt Jefferson?
Jamarra Ugle-Hagan was a true #1 (I would suggest that Cadman was a specific requirement of the Giants and that Ashcroft and a couple of the other mid sized players like Sheezel, Wardlaw were rated ahead of him). It took JUH until late in his second season before he started taking off and look where heās at in his third. Weāre doing well if Jefferson follows that path but in any event, he is calling out for patience and thereās no need to rush him in early.

2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Kynan Brown had 30 touches and kicked a goal for the Oakleigh Chargers. Heās still going under the radar - why? Is it his disposal and decision-making?

2023 Injury List
Surprised that the injury was said to be an existing one from some time ago because he appeared to injure the wrist late in the game vs Sandringham in the week before the bye.

GAMEDAY: Rd 19 vs Adelaide
This game is a bit of a fork in the road event. We can either take the path thatās heading straight for a top finish or we join a large pack that could finish anywhere and perhaps even miss out on making the finals. People say it should be an easy win because Adelaide is no good away from home but it was less than a month ago that they almost beat Collingwood at the MCG. If we think we can take this lightly we have another thing coming.
