Welcome to Demonland Kyah Farris-White
I remember watching him play for the Tiwi Bombers in the days when the ABC used to telecast the NTFL matches. He was highly skilled like a number of his teammates and definitely looked like he could have made it but the environment here is so different. I would hope that an indigenous player coming to our club would have the right type of support to give him every chance to succeed.

Phantom Drafts Thread 2022
I have only saw a little of him playing earlier in the season and it must be hard to determine his value at the draft given a serious injury to each knee, the most recent requiring ACL surgery which will keep him out of action for at least half, if not all, of 2023. He’s likely to be taken in the early to mid 20s. If we really have an eye on him, I’m wondering if a swap of picks 13 and 37 (1695 points) to West Coast for 20 and 26 (1651 points) would be considered? There are no guarantees of course but if George is the player we want, we could still possibly get him at 20 and be in an improved position with our second selection at 26. Just thinking outside the square.

1989 Foster’s Cup Final - London
On this day back in 1989 in London, Queen Elizabeth II was sitting on the throne, Margaret Thatcher was the Prime Minister and Melbourne played Essendon for the Foster’s Cup at the Oval. It’s pizzing down here in Melbourne, so relax, sit down, have a sip of the sponsor’s product and watch the game in full …

Welcome to Demonland Kyah Farris-White
The big question is how many Category B rookies is a club permitted to have on its list at any one time? I would hope the answer is three as otherwise the club would be precluded from picking Finn Emile-Brennan as a Category B rookie if the limit was two per club.

Harry Sheezel
North appears to have set their sights on Harry Sheezel - a freak forward who ticks all the boxes. This is why A fair appraisal of this top prospect but if you knew Harry, you wouldn’t use the word ‘obsessed’. The correct word is ‘focused’ - his head is on his shoulders and for the last 4 or 5 years he’s worked hard to get where he is now. I think he’ll be happy to stay in Melbourne as well.

Nice effort but I believe that Gold Coast has stated they would use their first pick on a midfielder so if true, that would rule Jefferson out at that selection.

Delisting/Out of Contract Targets
Most AFL clubs have announced at least one set of delistings and the time has come for a consideration of who among the delistings should be offered a second or third chance. The delisted players who should be given another chance

It’s a story from the Murdoch press and I think the information is not dissimilar to that in the story contained in Chaser J’s link above.

Welcome to Demonland Pick 37
I tried this exercise with the Pick 13 thread to help in understanding this discussion in context. This is a look at the last five drafts and the choices made at around this selection. 2017 36. Charlie Constable (Geelong) 37. Harry Petty (Melbourne) 38. Jack Petruccelle (West Coast) 39. Nathan Murphy (Collingwood) 2018 36. Tom Berry (Brisbane Lions) 37. Laitham Vandermeer (Western Bulldogs) 38. Irving Mosquito (Essendon) 39. Jarrod Cameron (West Coast) 2019 36. Elijah Taylor (Sydney) 37. Keidean Coleman (Brisbane Lions) 38. Nick Bryan (Essendon) 39. Chad Warner (Sydney) 2020 36. Charlie Lazzaro (North Melbourne) 37. Corey Durdin (Carlton) 38. James Rowe (Adelaide) 39. Josh Eyre (Essendon) 2021 36. Jake Soligo (Adelaide) 37. Rhett Bazzo (West Coast) 38. Miller Bergman (North Melbourne) 39. Blake Howes (Melbourne) Another Harry Petty or Chad Warner would be a handy addition to the list.

Welcome to Demonland Josh Schache
This sort of recruitment rarely turns out anything more than neutral in impact to a club. The feeling is that most people consider that it’s doomed to failure and that Shache will be around for a couple of seasons and get delisted. At the heart of it, we have a player who seven years ago won the Larke Medal for b & f in the National Under 18 Championships and was considered good enough to be pick 2 at the draft at the end of the year i.e. close to the 2015 version of Aaron Cadman who has half of the football world salivating today. The question is whether the club will take the time to unpack why he’s now at his third club and whether he can be mentored to iron out the faults he had when drafted or subsequently picked up along the way to improve him as a footballer. Otherwise, he languishes at Casey and perhaps plays a dozen games of AFL in 2023/4 and then disappears off the scene.

If we did that, they wouldn’t come to coach at Casey which is 50k from the CBD.

Saints Sack Ratten & Appoint Lyon as Coach
The big question is whether they release the review’s findings (probably not) but there are many aspects to the way in which a club operates and the coach is always the easiest target. Their recruiting and player development leaves a lot to be desired and their fitness people would surely be under the microscope. At least they must have plenty of dollars because the payout to Ratten is likely to be substantial and they will also no doubt let some of his coaching team go as well. They were 8-3 at the midpoint of the season. Did it have to come to this?
