The Free Agency/Trade/Draft Rumour File

I think this is right. Let's try to make the rumours at least sound believable otherwise they don't qualify. -
The Free Agency/Trade/Draft Rumour File
Whispering_Jack replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Thanks Prodigal Son. That's a good one to kick things off. By the way, in the true spirit of the thread, please keep the discussion friendly and on topic. There is no need to argue about the stupidity of any rumour. We'll take that as a given. -
This thread is dedicated to the memory of Chilliboy wherever he may be. It's for Free Agency, Trade and Draft rumour, innuendo and scuttlebutt and therefore official announcements are not for this thread. If you can substantiate your rumour with a link to a reliable source, please do not post it here. The things to post here are the stories you hear on the grapevine, in pubs, taxis, children's parties and the like. This is a Demonland public service to allow some semblance of sanity to prevail on the rest of the site. Who's going to start us off?

Presumably, Deep Throat is the foremost authority in the world about player movements. I'd almost completely forgotten about him (or her ) but I suppose it was only a matter of time before he/she reared his/her ugly head. What we really need is a special thread for unconfirmed trade/FA/draft rumours so we can check in December how many of them actually worked out as rumoured.

We've heard a little bit about recruiting mature age prospects from the various State Leagues and I'm sure there will be more discussion in the weeks and months to come. The Giants have been given a big leg up by the AFL as part of the concessions made available to them to use the availability of State League players to improve their own list - Gun goalkicker Lee set for second AFL chance. It will be interesting if clubs avail themselves of this option given it requires an element of trust and GWS is involved. With Melbourne on the lookout for some experienced State League talent to augment its midfield, there's a forgotten man named Ian Richardson playing for WAFL side Claremont who could become the next Ian Callinan.

World's best kept secret - Chris Knights has quit Adelaide. Richmond are hot favourites to get him and if what some posters above have said is correct then Neil Craig would be well aware of his shortcomings and I doubt we would be chasing him too hard in those circumstances.

The more I think about it, the more I am amazed at Nathan Jones' efforts in 2012. His 14 votes put him at equal 13th with Joel Selwood, Nathan Fyfe and Brent Stanton while playing in a team that couldn't poll more than two of six allocated votes in their last two wins even though they finished comfortable victors (my theory is that umpires usually place greater emphasis on what happens at the end of games rather than during). In any event I reckon if the team's performance over the season was more even, Jones would have polled closer to 20 votes and certainly would have finished well within the top ten. My point is that Nathan Jones has worked very hard over the past couple of seasons to get where he is today and we need him to act as an example to our younger players of how, with hard work, the rewards come. He might not yet be an A grade midfielder but he's getting closer and I reckon if that sort of application becomes infectious, he will drag a few of our blokes up with him.
-
No. He's a true professional and will see out his contract with the Pies in that manner before joining us when he becomes available.
-
I can't see him being picked up by anybody FWIW. The fact that he comes from Narre Warren might se him at nearby Casey but that's about it..
-
Jonathan Giles polled three Brownlow votes in each GWS win in the Giants' inaugural season and yet he and the club can't agree on a contract. This is a dead set disgrace when another player and his old man are sucking $2m of football money out of the system and he can't even poll a single Brownlow vote.
-
Moving tribute to Jim Stynes from his brother Brian. Inaugural Jim Stynes Community Leadership Award to Richmond's Daniel Jackson. Meanwhile, Jobe Watson has a commanding lead in the Brownlow although Essendon doesn't do much from here. Scott Thompson and Garry Ablett Jr. are probably the only ones close enough.
-
I get it. Brynne Edelsten was carrying the Brownlow votes into the room inside her dress. She's working for Armaguard. Either that or she thinks it's a fancy dress ball and she's come kitted out as an armadillo.
-
If Joan Rivers finds out about the Footy Fashion Police, she'll sue them for all their worth. These people are trying hard but they're in the wrong league.
-
My expectation is that her show won't last three weeks but then again, Big Brother caters for imbeciles and that's still going. My concern is how on earth did Brynne crack an invite? The only way it could be possible is that the Seven Network is shamelessly cross promoting her forthcoming programme. Oops, I'm having another relapse. She was on again!
-
I've had a bad cold for a couple of days and was out of it for most of the day today. Then I tuned into Foxtel's Red Carpet programme and I was doing well until I saw Brynne Edelsten. Dead set. I'm having a relapse!

Against GCS (Round 19) didn't the media experts award:- 3 Ablett 2 Bennell (theirs) 1 Green ?
-
This shouldn't be a problem. With time off for good behaviour, he'll probably be able to fit in a short pre season and a couple of practice matches at Casey before Round 1. Grab Lucas, I say!
-
I concur with that 100% Goodvibes. Only Collingwood and Carlton can get away with draft tampering these days.

Since there's lots of discussion elsewhere, I would think we don't need to cover that ground here.

It has also been confirmed that the game was decided on the golden score system. The siren was due to sound after Macmillan kicked the last goal but the game continued until Macrae scored the winning behind. The exciting final five minutes of the game - [media=]

Macrae kicks a point from the boundary line just seconds before the siren sounds and Oakleigh wins 12.10.82 to 12.9.81. Corker of a game!

Scores level 12.9.81 apiece at 25 minutes after McMillan goals for Oakleigh.
