There’s another Lindsay who plays half-back and has a lethal left foot on the horizon but he’s no relation to Xavier. Josh Lindsay is from the Geelong Falcons and was named best player for the AFL Academy against Coburg VFL yesterday at Whitten Oval. He collected 25 disposals at 80 per cent efficiency across half-back, providing run and drive for his side. Lindsay won the team best on ground medal ahead of South Australian on-baller Dyson Sharp who was also an outstanding performer.

Noah Yze won the VAFA Round 2 Rising Star award for his recent five goal performance with Old Melburnians. He’s playing in a trial game involving one of the Under 18 squads and a team of prospects for the upcoming midseason draft. At this stage, Melbourne has no vacancies for that draft and is unlikely to participate.

May would be an ideal “in” for the injured Turner but he’s said to have a worse injury than first thought. Given the five day break to Thursday night, we would have to look at mixing things up to ensure we can run the game out.

Since his back spasms in the first minute of the practice match vs Fremantle, he hasn’t been the player he was in 2023 and 2024. I would rest him for a few weeks to find out what his problem is - I can’t see him turning things around at the moment.

SON OF A GUN FIRES IN PREMIER B In his first game for Old Melburnians in Premier B, Noah Yze (the son of Richmond coach and ex-Melbourne forward Adem) starred with five goals in a best on ground display. Yze was released for the weekend from VFL side Casey due to the representative game against the SANFL. He proved to be a class above in the huge win as Jeremy a’Beckett also booted five. Old Melburnians prevailed by 94 points. Yze finished with 20 disposals, 16 contested possessions and five clearances. Other impressive performances came from Will Nichols (27 touches), Sam Laube (21 touches and three goals) and Jack Spargo (23 disposals).
