  2. Er ... Mr. Leg. There is no city called Kent in England or New Zealand. Kent is a county in England.

  7. Correct. In Michael Gleeson’s Age article, The Age AFL to introduce mid-season rookie draft in 2019 he says that in addition to the new mid-season rookie draft the AFL is “also set to allow clubs to add a player to their rookie list during the pre-season if they have a spot available or if they lose a player to a long-term injury or retirement”. This will apply to the period between December 1 and March 15 at which time clubs could place players “on one of three inactive lists: a long-term injury list, a season-ending list or a retired player list”. So you can leave a spot vacant at the drafts to allow yourself time to determine what player you want and you have a few months in which to do it.
  8. I’ve never been able to master a complete understanding of how the bidding system works for f-s/academy picks. Let’s say a club nominates Toby Bedford at 31. Do I take it that if we bid for him, we would have to then give up picks worth the equivalent to the points allocated for pick #31? If so, that would leave us having used 23 & 28, taken Bedford and our next pick becomes 91 or its equivalent?
  9. AFL Draft: The best state league options
  10. A few people have mentioned him and according to this write up in the Leader Newspapers, Melbourne is one of seven clubs to have interviewed him - AFL 2018: Northern Knights Tom McKenzie on radar of seven clubs
  11. Cal Twomey’s October Phantom Form Guide has him taken at 10:- 10 Jordan Clark POS: Half-back Ht 182cm, Wt 78kg, DOB 16/10/00 From Claremont/Western Australia Clark is coming with a rush. The West Australian's season gained momentum after winning All Australian honours at the under-18 championships, and he played some solid senior footy for Claremont late in the year to push himself into the top 10 of some clubs' draft boards. He's a good user of the ball off half-back and is given the ball to make things happen, and the former elite junior cricketer finished eighth in the 2km time trial last week.
  12. There’s been plenty of talk about the top 25 prospects but what about 26-50? Here’s Matt Balmer’s latest - 26-50 Power Rankings
  13. Given that Butters comes from the Western Jets can we call him a Western Star?
  14. Chris Doerre (aka Knightmare) has done an interesting draft needs analysis for ESPN - AFL Draft: Your club's list needs Here's his analysis for the MFC - List needs 1. Classy inside midfielder 2. General forward 3. Relieving ruck Draft picks: 23, 28, 54, 62, 91 Who should they draft? As a medium marking forward, Sam Sturt would be a strong addition to Melbourne's front half at 23. Bailey Williams at 28 would be ideal as a relieving ruckman who has uncontainable athleticism as a marking forward. If one of the Demons' preferred choices in the 20s is unavailable, midfielder Sydney Stack would add further class to the club's engine room. Through their NGA, Toby Bedford will provide speed and pressure through the midfield and up forward.
  15. Should be in the real top 30, possible top 20.
  16. I put an asterisk beside those players. It will be interesting to see how having that number of players inside the mix of early selections affects the placement of our picks.
  17. Mr Leg. I hope you’re not going to take that insult lying down.

  21. Father played for us back in the day (70s, I think). If he's off to Brisbane, it's their gain.
  22. Bob - that’s some assumption you make about Hogan or May being pick one if they were in this year’s draft. That might be the case if you were looking at players on ability alone but they are not 17/18 year olds with raw talent and there are other considerations involved such as their age and their history in the game. Hogan will be 24 years of age when he plays his first game with the Dockers and approaching the halfway mark in his career. There are his injuries and illnesses to consider, questions about his attitude and some of the personal issues he’s had to confront over the past six years. Those considerations need to be taken into account in assessing his worth and, in terms of the deal Melbourne got from Fremantle: there was also his contract status that meant our hold on him would have been even weaker this time next year. In the end therefore, I believe that we probably got a fair market value given his determination to go to a state where there are only two teams and the other one is fairly well off for key players and didn’t have the salary cap room. May is three years older than Hogan and while he has shown out as a leader with the Suns, I don’t believe he would go anywhere close to being a #1 in this draft. That said, I have reasonably high expectations of him but we were forced due to the situation to pay a little more for him than we would have liked. We did get our man and it remains to be seen whether we get value from the trade. Let’s hear what JM has to say.
