Judd McVee contract
The good news for us is that Judd is a non free agent from the stuff I’ve looked at. This means it would have to be a trade most likely. I personally want him to stay, however if he wants to leave back to WA, then fair enough, there’s no benefit to us holding out. In terms of trade value, he’s most likely worth an early second rounder from west coast, and maybe adding on a third rounder from Fremantle. Dream scenario would be as part of a Luke Jackson trade, however I also wouldn’t mind Neil Erasmus or Pat Voss in return from Fremantle. Possibly even Harry Edwards from west coast who we had interest in last year.

Trade Targets
Based on a little research McGovern was contracted for 2026 only, which if under a similar deal that we got with the Brayshaw payout, shouldn’t harm West Coast at all. For Murphy it looks like he had a contract through to the end of this year or next, worth 1 million, which was paid out by Collingwood, however no mention of whether it’s out of the cap, and the percentage like we had. Our scenario is slightly different to those 2 considering Brayshaw was on a longer term contract on bigger money, which just as mentioned earlier is our bad luck with contracts. This is no criticism of Brayshaw in any way either, I hope he is doing well and the right decision was made for him to retire.

Trade Targets
I think it’s also worth noting how much of an impact Angus Brayshaws contract will have on our cap in the next 3 years. After negotiation with the AFL, it was decided that only 50% of his contract will appear in the salary cap player payments for 2026, however the full contract will appear for 2027 and 2028. It was a 3 million dollar payout, so say an average of 600,000 a year. If this deal was backended which most are nowadays, we could be having 300000-400000 blocked out next year and 700000-900000 for the two years after, which considerably hamstrings us for any free agents or large trades, especially given the Trac and Clarry situations. Our list management team is incredibly under the pump.

Trade Targets
Ahh that’s a huge shame. That leaves us with very little options when it comes to forwards, which will cause an uproar when we don’t bring in any.

Trade Targets
Should be a priority to get Callum Brown from the Giants into the fold. He’s fun to watch, is athletic, can take marks and is also good below the knees. Would be nice to get some Irish heritage back into the club too, imagine a Jim’s Game debut for him!

POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast
I did watch most of the Casey game. It wasn’t the best game for either of them, however they competed more and did better than May

POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast
It should have been May dropped instead of Lever. Has gotten absolutely smashed by his opponents the last few games and has just seemed to have lost it. If the selection team had some sense, TMac would be in next week in his place,

The List Manager
I think somewhat controversially that after Picketts big contract extension (which I think is a good decision) that one of Petracca or Oliver MUST be traded. The AFL Salary cap is around $17.7 million so having 3 players account for nearly $4 million dollars of your salary cap for a team that has a high likelihood for bottom 4 is worrying. Not to mention a huge reduction in form, fitness and effort by Oliver, and incredibly poor attitude, body language and effort from Petracca (even after returning from a traumatic injury, the attitude and body language he is giving must be cancerous in the club rooms.) While these are premiership players, and it would hurt to trade them, it may be required to trade ONE of these players in the sake of avoiding bottoming out, which is where we are headed if no changes are made. Albeit moving one of these two would be the most complicated trades in history. I'm leaning towards Petracca due to likely having more trade value, if a team came to us and was willing to pay draft picks, and take most of his salary (we would likely have to pay part of it aka Grundy) we should seriously consider it. Petracca has still shown signs this year of being worth that contract amount. For Oliver to leave, he would have to take a massive paycut, which I don't see happening. If we wanted Luke Jackson back (yes please) he is on approximately 900,000 a year. This trade would be very difficult thanks to salary cap restrictions if we kept both Petracca and Oliver. There must be a turnover of players, and one of Ollie Lord, Callum Brown or even a Aaron Cadman as a dream target must be chased by us in order to help fix our forward issues. There also must be a midfield turnover as well, which can be activated by an aggressive and needed move in farewelling Oliver or Petracca.

Time to go Goody?
Completely agree. I think we need to see if anything improves with different people playing more midfield time. Let's give Kozzy, Windsor, Riv, Langford and maybe even Xav Lindsay and Chin a go, even Laurie as well. Better service would help us get more constructive looks at goal, maybe not accuracy but it's a good start.

THE 2024 AFL • NATIONAL DRAFT - DAY TWO
We likely have someone else in mind. Probably Henderson

THE 2024 AFL NATIONAL DRAFT - DAY ONE
Bo Allan or Xavier Lindsay now. Unless JT pulls a surprise with Joe Berry

2024 Phantom Drafts
Richmond beating us to Allan would make it more likely that Tauru slides to our second pick, especially if the tigers trade for one of the saints picks. Langford and Tauru would be a realistic dream scenario in my eyes.

2024 Phantom Drafts
I would be happy with that I wonder if getting Tauru instead would change this up?

2024 Phantom Drafts
Still could be anyone’s guess by then too.

2024 Phantom Drafts
It’s a tough call. On one hand Allan is a physical athletic beast, but could be a flight risk in the future. On the other hand Lindsay is probably the best kick in the draft with good endurance and pace, while his inside craft is said to be lacking. Could depend on who is selected at 5 as well.

2024 Phantom Drafts
Does anyone think Xavier Lindsay or Murphy Reid is still a chance for us at pick 9? (Especially if Allan or Tauru don’t get through, which is a live possibility.) We are crying out for some good, accurate kicking (lace out) and some footy IQ. It really depends on where JT rates them as well. Could see Hynes come into play possibly (especially if the eagles are desperate for Allan and he makes it to our pick)
