  1. Frawley, Garland and Pettard were all 3 VERY important signings. The only other players that need to urgently be resigned are Bate and Watts. However realistically Watts is too much of a risk for GC17 to throw mountains of cash at, because he's no certainty to become a player, so i'm not worried there. Great signings. My dream of seeing this forward line is still alive. Green Bate Sylvia Pettard Watts Jurrah With Dunn, Wona, Jetta, Bennel, Tapscott, Fitzpatrick as forward options, there is no doubt that those 6 above are all genuine goal kickers with enourmous talent.
  2. It's very easy to feel that way when we're 14th and losing games. All our players are spuds, none are improving, none are capable of reaching the heights we hoped they could, our coaches are clueless. However the truth is that this was never going to be our season. 15 players under 23 years old playing today. Lots of inexperience. many of our most promising youngsters have played less than 20 games. As Scully, Trengove, Watts, Jurrah, McKenzie, Frawley and Garland improve, Sylvia, Bate and Morton will start to look better and the coaching staff will suddenly become genuises.
  3. This thread is just so standard for demonland these days, I'm actually embarassed to be a demons supporter. Melbourne supporters are so desperate for a superstar that they heap totally unrealistic expectations on a 19 yr old. There are actually people in this thread that will not be satisfied if watts only becomes a star and not a great of the game! Lol it actually borders on idiotic. if watts becomes a star, or even a 50 goal a year forward, that could be enough to help us win a flag n will not be a wasted pick. Watts will be a very good player if he is given patience n time. He absolutely should not be properly judged before 3-4 years n 50 afl games. This thread has already proved that kpfs need time. How many times do demonlanders want to write- off players before learning their lesson- see garland and frawley threads from their first 2 years. Oh and one last important point. No one should be concerned about losing watts to gc17. Watts is not a certainty to become a player, and that means he'll be considered a risky pick. They would get slaughtered in the media if they spent 600k on a players who has provdn nothing. They are much more likely to target pettard or garland or bate.
  4. Jamar is one of the few players that I would be happy to over pay him. Purely because he is our only good ruckman, so he's essential to our team. If they gave him a huge pay packet, good on him. He deserves it and we have the space
  5. Huge signing. Jamar is far and away our most important player. If he can deliver another 6 years of being an elite ruckman, he will go a long way towards winning us a premiership. Such amazing news. Now we need to sign up Pettard and Bate and we're pretty much set.
  6. There are 2 types of youngsters imo. 1. There are some youngsters who are not complete players upon entry into afl. They need to develop certain skills (e.g. defensive skills, kicking skills) and add parts to their game (learn how to run through the midfield if you're a small forward). These players benefit from time in the vfl, where they can be given set tasks, and work on specific areas of their game without worrying about the results. 2. There are other youngsters who have all the skills upon being drafted (though they might not have an afl ready body), and simply need games at afl level to fast track their ability to impact on afl games and to gain experience at the top level. Players in category 1: Strauss, Cheney, Gysberts Players in category 2: Scully, Trengove, Watts, Morton That is why imo it's not the end of the world for Gysberts. He now has a taste. He needs to work on his kicking and decision making. He'll be a good player
  7. If Jamar's out of contract at the end of the year, can GC17 just snap him up for nothing?! He's by far our most important player imo, without him we'd be farked. Sign the boy up ASAP
  8. Out: Jetta and Gysberts In: Sylvia and McDonald
  9. This game is absolutely CRUCIAL. If we win then we'll be above the bombers on the ladder, and give me perfect ammunition over my friends, who all happen to be bombers supporters
  10. The only players not playing at senior level atm who deserve to play at senior level in the near future are Sylvia, McDonald, Jurrah, Bennel and Wona. Gysberts, Dunn and Miller are probably the 3 players who will find themselves first out in the coming weeks. Dunn and Miller are only depth players and I think Gysberts will benefit from dominating VFL level. Our depth actually isn't very good at all
  11. Agree. In fact, will never play again for MFC. It's getting to the point when we might have to look to trade for a ruckman like Sydney like last year (Seaby and Mumford). ATM, I don't think any of Meesan, PJ and Spenser will make it AFL level. That leaves Jamar (thank the lord we have him) + Gawn (18 y/o raw kid).
  12. Watched first 3 qtrs on TV. Firstly, no one played well. But there are 3 guys that I can see are still AFL standard player: - Jurrah is obviously classy and should be at afl level asap. no delivery for him in the forward line so barely touched it - Bennel is very clean and looks an afl standard player - Wona not too sure about him, but i still see something in him. To me he also looked to me an afl standard player Can't say anything positive about the other players - Cheney i guess tried hard under seige - PJ, what the hell i thought he was relatively mobile? He is god aweful, can't take a contested mark to save himself, if it is at his ankles he's out of the contest, crap rucking as well - Spenser- terrible - Strauss- looks good with the ball in his hands, but looks pretty bad without it in his hands. He's not a good defender in the sense he doesn't have good defensive skills (spoiling etc) and doesn't think like a defender. I maintain he should not be played at half back. play him in the midfield or wing. We're trying to turn him into a back pocket, it isn't working. - Maric- i'm very close to giving up on him as a failed pick. There are plenty of players picked at 21 in the national draft that don't make it, he might be one. I can't see him making an impact at AFL level. If people remember how horrible he was in the last AFL game he played, he was the same today - Daniel Bell- really awesome player. Simply not an AFL standard player, barely a VFL standard player - Fitzpatrick- youngster, didn't do much, but can't really comment yet I know Casey have had a great season, but on the MFC players, I think PJ, Daniel Bell and Maric will probably be delisted. And i'm not confident Spenser will even make it. And can I say, some of those VFL level players are god aweful. Really some terrible terrible vfl players. Of the VFL guys that are often talked up, that panozza guy is shocking. That Stockdale guy looks OK, is pretty quick, but definitely don't see why people are suggesting he's afl standard.
  13. Anyways, my 2013 team prediction is pretty much exactly the same as Green Machine's prediction except: IN: Morton, McKenzie, Bate, OUT: Bail (not 100% convinced yet), Jetta (not 100% convinced yet), Blease (not 100% convinced yet) I wouldn't be totally surprised if Bartram and Jones were replaced by more skillful better AFL players--- maybe Bennel, or even Viney or one of our draft picks over the next 2 years?
  14. Firstly, I didn't realise that Strauss, Tapscott, Blease, Fitzpatrick and Gawn were in our starting 22 atm. Gysberts isn't in our best 22 either YET (at the moment he's just being blooded). I think most people thought captain JMcdonald would be retired by 34, so reasonable prediction at the time. Scully and Trengove are the ones who are in the 2010 best 22 which I missed, obviously impossible to predict that. Considering the turnover of our list over those 3 years, and Mclean and Buckley playing for different AFL clubs, it wasn't a terrible effort
  15. There is a difference between the old thread that was predicting the 2010 team and this thread. Firstly, 3-4 years ago we had plenty of ageing guys- Carrol, Whelan, Wheatley, Robbo etc. It was pretty unlikely those guys would still be playing in 2009/10, but nobody was sure. However in 2010, an enourmous proportion of our starting 18 are really young and still getting better, so people can say with relative confidence that Scully, Trenners, McKenzie, Watts, Jurrah etc will all be in our 2013 team. Secondly, the next 2 years of drafting is going to be a huge struggle. We'll get 1 good pick at the end of this year (pick 12 probably) and one good pick the year after (pick 16 probably), and the rest of our picks will be in the 40+ range where it is a lottery. We will not be having enourmous amounts of new talent coming through over the next 2 years (except Viney?) so most of our 2013 team will come from our current crop of talent. So we don't have to be fortune tellers as much.
  16. Here's a hint. Every team in the league needs key forwards. To get a good one across (like Kennedy or Jesse White) would cost of an arm an a leg. Any Key position forward that is discarded by an opposition club must be absolutely pathetic, since we know that key forwards are given every chance to succeed (ahem Miller, Lonergan etc). The only way to get one is to draft. Luckily we've drafted Morton, Watts, Bate who could be 3 KP forwards + Jurrah, Pettard, Green medium forwads
  17. Agree 100%. Severely underated on this site. Imo, of all the players on our list, he has the greatest scope to be an absolute superstar of the game. If he develops his body, and maintains his ability, i foresee Goddard-esk ability. With his height (194cm) and overhead marking, he could even potentially be a CHF. And he plays extremely well all the time, people just refuse to give him credit sometimes
  18. I understand the sentiment against Pokies, especially in light of Cam Schwab's 'success with integrity' business he keeps harping on about in the Whiteboard Weds. However, I personally have no problem with it. Gambling is not illegal, no one is forcing any one to use the machines. If we make moral judgements that Pokie machines is wrong, then you have to draw the line at any alcoholic beverage sales too. Port Adelaide needs $5m ($1m from AFL + $4m from SANFL) just to break even for 2010! Ask yourself, do we want to be that club?
  19. According to the most recent article on MFC website, almost all our players should be playing AFL or VFL in the second week of the split round except 3 players. - Meesan- LTI- only a rookie ruckman, wouldn't be getting a game anyways - Gawn- 5 weeks away- 18 y/o ruckman, wouldn't be getting a game for at least 2 years anways - Pettard- Season- our 1 major injury that affects our team Pretty amazingly short injury list!
  20. - keep getting games into all our young guns - agree with OP, get our forward line playing together, in particular Watts, Jurrah, Green, Bate and Wona playing games together - defensive unit continue to develop - blood some games into Blease and Strauss
  21. Loving Moloney and Jamar's form. The football department has got it right with all the choice of senior players (over 26 y/o) we have kept in order to guide the youngster. We delisted lots of senior players over the last few years and decided only to keep those who could genuinely add to our starting 18 structure. If you look at our senior players (over 26 years old), they all contribute and all are important to our team: - Moloney- really leads the midfield - Jamar- real monster in the ruck. We rely so heavily on him - Green- is absolutely critical to our forward line until our young forwards develop - Bruce- is a really clever defender. Uses all his experience to generally beat his opponent. Also is filling a hole at half back until Strauss/Cheney develop - JMcdonald- huge amounts of leadership - Davey- our best player - Warnock- our best defensive defender The only senior guys who aren't doing great guns are Rivers and Miller, but both are still in our starting 22.
  22. AWESOME. Can't wait to see Jurrah, Watts, Bate and Green play together and develop together as a unit! These 4 + Pettard will be our forward line for the next 4 years. Perhaps Morton, Wona, Bennel, Jetta, Sylvia and others will go through the forward line, but these 5 named above form a very dangerous group of mobile forwards, each a different size and shape.
