The loss of Kozzie in the first 3 weeks will absolutely cost us a win and potentially a subsequent finals birth if we’re around the fringes. He’s our MVP in my opinion. He’s the bloke that can light a spark if we’re down by 15 points in the third quarter. Our forward line looks completely impotent on paper without him.

What’s the pass mark for SG next year in terms of wins in order to see out his contract for 2026? We’re all mature annd smart enough football followers to understand that coaches have been getting sacked a year before their contract expires since Adam was a young lad. I understand and am very sensitive to the fact that many posters here love the coach dearly and would be heart broken if he were to ever be removed. However I have grave fears for SG if we don’t improve next year.

Sounds about right. If you interviewed 100 Melbourne supporters walking out of the G after the last Pies game, I reckon 75-80 would be happy to see the back of him.

Dees Could Become ‘One of the Worst One-Hit Wonders’
Edward Langdon replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
If there’s going to be a one hit wonder, it’s clearly going to be the MFC. Sure enough we win a premiership away from our heartland in a year where we absolutely stood up as a club, thus denying the majority of members the experience of a lifetime. Watching a premiership in a draconian lockdown with sub standard Channel 7 commentary ain’t nothing on what Bulldogs and Richmond supporters got to experience in 2016 and 2017 respectively. I reckon a lot of today’s angst stems from Victorian, NSW, ACT and QLD based member missing the experience of a life time and they’re concerned they might never see a flag in attendance at the MCG, or at least share the experience with family and friends in a suitable environment. -
Angus Brayshaw Forced into Retirement

In fairness Laura Kane stepped in and initially had Maynard suspended. -
I don’t know where we go if Gawn goes down. Verrall and Farris-White are projects while Fullerton could be out for half the season (if tendon) and even if he didn’t get injured yesterday, would you be feeling bullish going into a game with him as the No 1 ruck? I understand the reasons why we traded him, he’s too good to be an insurance policy, but at the end of the day we’ve just facilitated a top 4 rival with a first class ruckman.

Lions losing is obvious a Brilliant result for us. It really does open the door wide for a top 4 birth across the league and it’s not out of the question that a St Kilda, Essendon or Adelaide make a shock top 4 birth.

Hewett out of game with concussion. De Goey will get weeks.

With Collingwood and Geelong around the corner, this is an absolute non negotiable must win game of footy.

Agree with this. Most of the angst comes from the 30,000 odd Melbourne supporters that were denied the experience of seeing a flag at the MCG and hence are worried they’ll never get to see one in person. Most of us were denied the special experience that Richmond, Dogs and Geelong (07) supporters got to experience.

A crucial game for Goodwin in my opinion. He’s 7-9 since the North win in round 10 last year and coming up against a team and coach he ostensibly can’t beat. This despite every man and his dog continually telling us that our list is generational. On another matter, St Kilda have ruined the injury excuse for every other other club this season.

Garry Lyon fails to call out Antisemitism
Edward Langdon replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I knew he'd cop online abuse (and unfunny garbage from John from Epping) once Cal Twomey wrote a good piece on the young fella mid-season, despite best intentions. Pity everyone isn't talking about his potential as an AFL player, rather than this. -
I’ll get the thread back on track. My username is inspired by Melbourne wingman Ed Langdon.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARRISON PETTY
Edward Langdon replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
In the 4 minutes he played as a forward, he took a screamer of a mark and subsequent goal, set up the Langdon goal and the Kozzie inexplicable miss. Imagine what damage he could’ve done if played all night as a forward. -
Spot on. The longer the season went on, it became abundantly clear that 2021 was an aberration for Collingwood. An exception to the rule. In fact I could see signs as early as their comprehensive round 2 win against Adelaide that they were going to be shooting right back up the ladder. However, the media will keep feeding us the narrative that they came from absolutely nowhere to make a prelim.

The mood on this forum has been feral today and a few posters have gone the man rather than the ball today, no doubt about it. Definitely some bullies on Demonland, without naming names.
-
Exactly right. They’re a proven quality side that simply had an off year in 2021, with off field issues all over the place. No doubt every man and his dog will predictably write them off against Sydney, despite going the distance against the 2022 premier elects in Geelong.

Yes please to Logue.
-
Agree with that, except for the getting smashed bit. Collingwood will be competitive against Sydney next week. Make no mistake.

Freo’s forward line is as dysfunctional as ours. Their inside 50 entires are just deplorable as ours. Collingwood are a team that plays the G beautifully.
-
Excellent, rationale post.. Out of that list i’d be mortified if we turn into the next West Coast who have fallen off the rails. There’s a lot of work to be done for us to forge ahead but I’m confident we have most of the pieces in place. The fitness is the most pressing issue IMO. You can’t argue that there isn’t a correlation between fitness issues and poor 4th quarters.

I thought Langdon played well. The culmination of a fantastic season by the young lad.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARRISON PETTY
Edward Langdon replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
The whole booing fiasco of Petty and Zorko was cringeworthy. The clubs (at least) publicly resolved the issue and the crowd should’ve left it at that. All it did was spur on Zorko who played well.
