Even if he needs to stay in WA and doesn't play a single game for them, they're still going to be turning a nothing pick into at least one first rounder.
-
Just on that - the future 2 is right after Norths pick. So the highest it could be is pick 20. NM would still have 19 if they finished bottom.
-
Plenty of outgoing players too. Surely they could've factored this deal in when they were making their other trades? Instead the only thing of note they have from three players leaving is Norths PP2nd
-
Weird that their GM is in charge of trades is it not?
-
I'm an eternal pessimist. If I convince myself and everyone that we'll get screwed in this deal then I'm sure I'll be happier with what the actual deal ends up being. It's a good way to live life.
-
Also does anyone know if Bell is in charge of their list management when it comes to the actual trades? Because he's not their actual list manager is he.
-
From what I've heard it was true at the time, but they had just lost Lachie Neale and bell had been doing the job for about 2 weeks so there was pressure from the CEO and coach to get their "big fish" so Bell went back.
-
West coast haven't made an offer yet because LJ doesn't want to go there (as it stands, they've literally said it in their own words), and all parties know that.
-
Yeah they won't accept that. They've already made their agenda very clear to the media. Essentially their standing on "no player has ever been traded for 2+ firsts without something coming back". No way they add a pick 20 just to get back something like pick 50
-
No way its those three picks without AT LEAST our F2 and F3 next year going back.
-
Him only signing 1 year after his initial contract was a red flag. Almost all draftees sign 2.
-
That's the thing. We've got nothing to stand on here. WC haven't put up an offer to us, they haven't even convined LJ to join them. If this trade gets done it's going to be us who cave, because we're not going to let him walk to the PSD for nothing. Everyone knew he wanted to go home last year. He should have requested his trade then right after his grand final performance where his value was at its highest. Fremanlte had pick 6, 8, and 19 last year.
-
We could've held Hogan to his contract though so it's different. There was an element of us wanting to get rid of him.
-
I'll be honest it sounds like bs. No one, not even fremantle, can afford 1.5mil a year.
-
That part is true. Don't think we ever see multiple firsts without SOMETHING coming back.
-
Latest update from Twomey says fremantle aren't budging on their initial offer. No west coast offer yet either.
-
I'd like to think we package it with one of our (or freos) F1 to move up this year
-
I'm pretty sure everything at this point is just what's going back to freo. They've offered up 13, F1, north's F2 which I think were happy to take, but they want at least one current or future second rounder coming back.
-
I read an article where the wce list manager said they hadn't put up on offer for LJ bc they were "waiting to see what the player wants" which tells me that he actually has no desire to go there
-
It'll be with futures. They're stacked next year.
-
Since when did "turning down the opening offer" become 'playing hardball'
-
Just looked at his wafl stats, seems like he played in reserves for most of the year, and wasn't particularly impressive. Was going at 3 goals a game in the WAFL before being picked up midseason so could be something there though.
-
Just checked and signed a deal till 2026 a couple months ago. If we target someone it would be someone like Henry or Meek or some other fringe player. I'd like Treacy but they've got no forwards so I can't see that happening. I honestly think Lobb would give us a better shot at a flag than Grundy too.
-
WC could be though. And plenty of times clubs don't get their desired return, especially when the player is out of contract. The clubs will reach a compromise. Jeremy Cameron went for 13, 15, 20 with two second round picks (32, 35) coming back. He was a proven player and a 9x leading goal kicker for the giants. I think LJ trade could be similar to that, except I think 15 turns into a top 10 pick next year instead.
-
A trade will be done, whether its suitable or not. He's already moved back to WA. We're not going to let him walk, so we'll just be going with whoever offers us the best out of freo or WC. At least he has the decency to let us get the better of two options.
