Farewell Luke Jackson
Just looked at his wafl stats, seems like he played in reserves for most of the year, and wasn't particularly impressive. Was going at 3 goals a game in the WAFL before being picked up midseason so could be something there though.

Just checked and signed a deal till 2026 a couple months ago. If we target someone it would be someone like Henry or Meek or some other fringe player. I'd like Treacy but they've got no forwards so I can't see that happening. I honestly think Lobb would give us a better shot at a flag than Grundy too.

WC could be though. And plenty of times clubs don't get their desired return, especially when the player is out of contract. The clubs will reach a compromise. Jeremy Cameron went for 13, 15, 20 with two second round picks (32, 35) coming back. He was a proven player and a 9x leading goal kicker for the giants. I think LJ trade could be similar to that, except I think 15 turns into a top 10 pick next year instead.

A trade will be done, whether its suitable or not. He's already moved back to WA. We're not going to let him walk, so we'll just be going with whoever offers us the best out of freo or WC. At least he has the decency to let us get the better of two options.

He's been there plenty times before from what I've heard.

Is it just me or would WC would be crazy to accept that? Out: 2, Rioli In: 8, 10-15 Values rioli at nothing essentially.

Don't see this helping us. WC are going to want to keep a pick in the top 10 this year. Which only leaves their F1 and ports F1 on offer for us?

Last I heard (this morning) they'd had 6 or 7 meetings with us. Apparently a deal was getting close before the port pick swap but idk how accurate that is.

West coast ruled out using pick 2 straight for LJ. No way they give up pick 2 and 20 lol.

They have North and Carlton's F3rd.

7 is going with Bowes, who is only interested in Vic teams.

Realistically, who can WCE split their pick 2 with? Giants the only other team with multiple firsts but they have pick 3 so I don't see that happening. I also don't see WCE giving us two firsts with where their list is at. Even if they do split their 2nd, It'll be pick 7-10 this year + pick 20-25 next year. Vs Fremantle pick 13 this year and pick 9-15 next year.

This was always going to be their starting point. What more do they have to offer with what they've got? I suspect we'll get more thrown in there from the Logue trade.

Edmund said today around 700k/5yrs. But anywhere from 700k/5yrs-$1mil/8yrs has been floated around. Taranto was 750k/7yrs so probably similar. Unpopular opinion maybe but I think taranto is worth more. He's only 24 and has a b&f to his name and is just about to hit his peak. Jackson is all about size and potential which he isn't guaranteed to reach. I don't think it will happen but anything better than 13 and F1 with nothing going back would be a pleasant surprise. I have low hopes for this trade.

Zero chance we get a top 10 pick from fremantle. Especially now that port is after JHF. Unless wce come to the party and split their pick 2 then we're getting unders. And even if they did, it would be something around say 7, 24 (F2) vs 13, 10 (I expect freo to fall next year). I don't think there's too much difference between those two offers.

There's talk that freo have offered 13 and F1. Problem is we want that straight up, and they want something coming back. If we're happy with 13 and F1 straight up then I do think this deal will get done sooner rather than later.

Apparenly he'll nominate Fremantle tomorrow. I can't see anyway we let him walk when there is a first round pick on offer. We really do not have a strong hand here at all. We lose him for unders, or we lose him for nothing. That's what happens when players get out of contract.
-
Farewell Luke Jackson
How do we get that? You'd think fremantle would only be able to upgrade their current pick by trading a F1 to whichever club they're getting that pick from. And if that's the case then they'll have no F1 to give us? Will be a lot less than that by the end of it all. If they upgrade their pick then all they'll be able to add is a future second.

Don't think a player will be involved unless it's Meek. They've already got 5 players wanting out. They're not going to force any more out, especially those three. I don't know much about them but Frederick and Schultz destroyed us in our first meeting this year. Highly doubt Fremantle will even consider trading for them. Would like us to ask the question of Meek though. Think he'd go ok as a replacement and could grow under Gawn's guidance.

Every trade that involves multiple first rounders has at least one second going back the other way. Kelly, Cameron more recent examples. A deal will get done, even if it's unders. End of the day we'll be getting at least one first round pick. We're not going to walk him to the PSD because they're offering 13 and 13 rathern than 8 and 10. He's moved everything back to WA, bought a house there. If signing for another two years was an option for him he would've done it already. Talks have been ongoing since 2021. All parties would probably be on the same page by now. A deal will get done, and I think it will get done early. I also think it's going to be less than what we want, but it won't be insulting enough to turn it down and let him walk.

Any chance that him not being at freo next year will mean he'll be easier to work with?

Peter Bell is stubborn. I don't see him coughing up two first rounders unless they're both low (i.e. 13 and next years F1). If pick 8 is inolved then that probably means fremantle are giving up 13, F1, and F2 (to port) for Jackson and Bell's ego is way too high for that. I think it gets done for 13 and F1 with Jackson and 32 going back their way. We could package 13 and F1 for a top 10 pick from someone I'm sure.

Well realistically we have no power here. If he always knew he was coming back home why not just request the trade while he was still contracted? Or at least sign a two year extention at the end of last year so that we'd still have some leverage. Last year we would have gotten pick 8 and cerra, who was pick 5. Now the most we can get is something around 13 and 14. Unless west coast want to split their pick 2 to trade for him then we really won't get much better. And even if they do split their pick 2 what could they even get for it? They wouldn't want to give up their higher pick for a player they could theoretically pick of for nothing in the PSD.

I still think we'll get shafted. If the reports are true that wce aren't really in the conversation, then I think the best we'll get is Pick 8 and a F2 and some change. If pick 8 wasn't involved then I think we'd get 13 and a F1 with 32 going back. Either way Melbourne and Fremantle have been in discussions for a very long time. I think both clubs are aware of what the final deal will be already.
