Farewell Brodie Grundy
Grundy is one of us and I would like to think that he will finish his career with us. He will not only play a significant role this year but in future years. Like to think he will help us snag a few flags along the way. I could be proven wrong but I am very confident that I won’t be.

POSTGAME: Rd 18 vs Brisbane
To me it is just the tone of her voice, let alone what she says that soooo grates with me. (I presume she was one of the commentators on ABC- if not apologies to Underwood) I listen to the footy when I’m at the footy (put one ear piece only so I still get the atmosphere). My normal first choice station is by default the ABC, bit out of habit and because it tends to get the better reception at the G on my little radio. As a backup I have the other footy stations preprogrammed as other options. When I heard the voice, the tone snd the dribble coming out I auto pilot without thinking switch to another radio station.

The Run Home
I was considering doing the ladder predictions on the AFL app, then looked how well I’ve been doing in picking winners in the footy tipping competition, then decided I shouldn’t bother…

The Run Home
On the assumption that we don’t finish in the top two…..If we play Collingwood first final it has its ups. We play at the G, gives us opportunity to get support at the ground and if we win, yee ha, we are in the box seat. If we lose and win the next game we unfortunately will most likely play an interstate prelim final. Not so good If we play Port first week, it’s an away game. Tough but can be done. Win, again we are in the box seat. Lose and we win the following week and our prelim final would most likely be the Pies at the G or less likely Brisbane away, yuck. On balance, I’d rather play the pies first week. Very pecuniary, at least I can go to the game. Normally I stress big time when I actually go to the footy but I’m getting that feeling now…. I better stop Ps. If my logic above is wrong, apologies, happy to be corrected.

NON-MFC: Rd 18 2023
I know it’s a bit like saying what do you prefer, diarrhoea or vomit but I’m torn between who I want to win out of Essendon and Geelong (that will help us). I’ll go for Essendon

PREGAME: Rd 18 vs Brisbane
Goody’s press conference today - ‘We are now back at our home ground, in front of our supporters who make a difference for us, when they come out in numbers and support and get loud, which we expect Friday night, it’s a tough place to play’ We as supporters have got one job to do- turn up and turn up the volume- we must also make the home ground advantage become a home crowd advantage. GO DEES

PREGAME: Rd 17 vs St. Kilda
It’s perhaps too early to put forward a balanced view after what just happened in Alice. But here it goes. We won just about every stat there is to win except for kicking a winning score so……..perhaps desperately clutching at straws that is a plus so……….I still have some faith that we can turn things around. BIG game coming up next week! I’ve already bought a ticket. In the coming weeks we will definitely find out if we are contenders or pretenders. GO DEES!!!!!

Game plans, tactics and all that jazz
I’ll preface my comment by what Daicos said after the Adelaide game- words to the effect ‘the crowd support means a lot to us, it’s like having an extra man on the ground’ (not to forget the influence they can have on umpiring decisions). Home crowd advantage is BIG! In 2021 the huge crowd support we got in WA was a one off- it too is by and large unrepeatable for us back here. I know it’s only an opinion and everyone has one -I felt it had an incredible positive impact on both our finals performances over there. I don’t think it is a coincidence that Goody, the players and even marketing from MFC is trying to get our supporters to go to games and make some noise. In terms of trying to compare 2023 with 2021 - I don’t. To win a premiership you need a good team that is well coached and switched on at the pointy end of the season and luck with injuries. Luck plays a big part. So in the meantime, those of us that can, turn up to our games and be loud- it can only help our boys….GO DEES!

TRAINING: Monday 26th June 2023
I just listened to the Geelong game podcast and there was discussion about whether we were finished or near finished ‘loading’. (The drift of the discussion was that we have had increased training loads in the past few week’s leading into the bye period) Certainly not trying to ignite debate regarding merits or otherwise but I am simply curious as to whether people like yourself who attend training sessions regularly can / did pick up on increased training loads over the last few weeks. I would have thought (guessed) that one would expect to see significant increases in effort or whatever it is that takes place on the training track when ‘loading’ is happening. Or is it more nuanced and hard to identify? Or do players do other sessions somewhere else?

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs Geelong
Prior to the Dangerfield injury Geelong were favourites (and the presumption that Oliver would be okay to play for us). We became the slight favourites. Just guessing, perhaps it’s swung back to Geelong when it became known that Oliver was not playing. All in all the odds seem pretty tight or even or whatever the correct terminology is. GO DEES!
