NON-MFC: Rd 24 2023
Would much rather play the Lions in a QF than a Prelim - but if we finish 4th and beat the Pies in a Prelim weād have a dream Prelim scenario against one of Port, Swans or Saints (presuming Port lose to Lions at the Gabba) Although lose against the Pies and itās Carlton or GWS/Doggies at the G and Lions at the Gabba A week one win huge in that scenario

Farewell Brodie Grundy
No disrespect but why would we pay to have another club take him? Given heās contracted we hold all the cards and, unlike the Pies last year, the club still sees the benefit of keeping the best back up ruckman in the game on the list (whereas the Pies wanted him gone) Iām sure the club would try to do whatās best for all parties, but I highly doubt weāre going to pay part of his salary without receiving something substantial back the other way, either a player or higher pick - especially when there would be multiple clubs who would throw their hat in the ring to get him

Trade Rumours 2023
Thanks Nudge - while there are a few names in the genuine targets that I think would compliment us, there is a clear difference in the quality of player between them and the dreaming targets Any sense if any of those bigger names would be any more than a ājust asking to askā scenario? Iām also curious what the clubs intent for Petty is long term - although Iām guessing much would depend on future trades and which area of the ground we need more support in

Farewell Brodie Grundy
This or a similar deal with the Swans for McLean would be best case scenario I reckon Despite the partnership with Gawn not working as intended this year, we could still come out winners in the Grundy trade if we land a promising young player out of it As much as I feel for Grundy on a human level, heās a great asset for us to have either as a second ruck or as a trade piece

2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Youād think they would have to throw in Portās first rounder (currently 16) to make it worthwhile from our end - otherwise youāre right, itās way overs and wouldnāt get us any closer to a deal for pick 1 as weād need at least another first round pick to even remote West Coast
-
2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Agree that itās unlikely but is there a particular reason they wouldnāt deal with us specifically?

2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Increasingly looking like weād need to deal with North to stand a chance of getting Reid even if we had both Freo and Suns first round picks Curtin far too promising to slide to pick four or five, especially when North will be in dire need of defenders when McKay departs Not convinced theyāre going to get a band 1 compo pick for McKay so they may have some interest in splitting 2 for multiple top 10 picks, but beginning to look like Reid may just be a bit too far out of reach unless we can do some serious wheeling and dealing

POSTGAME: Rd 22 vs Carlton
Theyāre 100% a contender and clearly have the best form and profile right now Whatās more is theyāre playing a game style that will stand up to the pressure of finals football On that basis, theyāre every chance to give the ācanāt win it from outside the fourā theory a real shake, particularly given the evenness of the comp this year But a month is a long time in football, and without finishing top four theyāre every chance to play an interstate semi or prelim final, which will be tough for any side overcome Long story short - if they manage to win the flag from here, it would be one of the most impressive Premiership runs in history But we could just as well be sitting here in a month watching them flame out after an admittedly very impressive few months Time will tell

PODCAST: Rd 22 vs Carlton
To me 2021 was the first year that we could have won the Premiership - 2018 was way too soon and were shown up by the actual contenders at the pointy end and 2019 was a total write off given the injuries. 2020 is an interesting one as weāll never know for sure how much COVID impacted our season, but I think a lot of what we developed that year - fitness and defensive game plan - came to the fore the following season, along with our shrewd recruiting of Ben Brown to nail down what would become our Premiership 22. So in my view weāre in our third year of genuinely contending and we should have at least another few seasons with this core performing at their peak (with strong recruiting and development potentially extending that for years to come)

PODCAST: Rd 22 vs Carlton
Thanks for all your hard work on the pod fellas A question on our forward line - with our tall forward options being limited, do you think that a shorter forward line of JVR, Fritta, Melksham, Trac, Kozzy and Chandler (with Nibbler and Spargo as those high half forwards Binman has discussed) would work come finals? Or is maintaining our two tall structure more important even if it means playing a not quite right TMac or Ben Brown (no disrespect to either as they are both champions of our club whose bodies have unfortunately let them down this year)? And where does Grundy fit into either set up - if at all? Thanks fellas and looking forward to tuning in!

Any more info on this @Dannyz? Is it possible to have a Lisfranc injury that can be played through within 5 weeks?
-
2023 Injury List
First final would be just under 5 weeks away - so touch wood he could be available but more likely to see him either in a PF or Semi Either way 5 weeks is a massive win considering what the injury could have been Win our next three and bed down our forward structure - either someone performs or we have Petty come back in and keep tearing it up Go Dees

Harley Reid
Iām almost of the opinion that heās worth it even if we do sell the farm š Elite talent wins you flags and if Reid is truly a cut above the rest of the draft crop, Iād rather go all in on trying to get pick 1 than trying to nab multiple players who - albeit may be very good - are less likely to be that next Dusty, Trac, Bont type of player that contenders are built around All depends how JT rates him though!
-
Harley Reid
Fair enough regarding pick 1 but surely pushing up the draft order in what will be a highly compromised draft can only be good for us? There could be 4 top 10 talents all taken via NGAs if Sanders is included and I would personally like to see us get up as high as possible to our picks donāt get diluted
-
Harley Reid
Great news for our pick 1 chances if true - although likely opens the door for them to receive Sanders

Farewell Brodie Grundy
Unless Goody is playing ducks and drakes it sounds like Brodie wonāt be playing this week either in the forward line or as a second ruck to give Max a chop out In fact Goody almost intimated that he wonāt be seen again unless there is an āopportunityā in the forward line - i.e. injury or loss of form to current lineup We all know not to take Goodyās pressers at face value, but jeez you wouldnāt be feeling too confident hearing that if you were Grundy

It would be a sham if they were to end up with both pick 3 and Sanders More than happy for them to receive one to assist them (Dees fans canāt talk when it comes to receiving priority picks) but to receive both would be overkill in an already heavily compromised draft My sense is the AFL understand the ire that it would create and will only give them one of the two - i.e. if the McKay trade is in band 1 and they receive pick 3, they wonāt get access to Sanders, but if itās an end of first round pick instead they would get access to him
