  1. Causation and correlation… the are other factors to that openness. And we must concede it that hasn’t led to more scoring. The best rule has been the play on from the kick out that gets the ball 80m away from goals. The stand rule is good if it is tweaked to get what we need to get out of it; the player with the ball an advantage to get the ball into the forward half with movement and territory.
  2. Yes. Also replicated as a podcast without the ads.
  3. It needs tweaking. The problem I saw is that the umps are looking for the player to get on the mark which can disadvantage the player with the ball. It means that defenders can ‘put the hands up’ and run right next to the player with the ball to get to the mark. I would tweak I to say that players can only get on the mark from the front - the defensive side - and any players coming from the side or behind to get on the mark (unless right on them) it’s a 50. Players should play on more often but I think the above impacts their ability to do that.
  4. Similar to the saying: When in Rome, copy what others are doing.
  5. I just rewatched the On The Couch after the GF and Garry made Goodwin reveal one of the main messages at HT “get it and kick it” And in that simple message reveals quite a bit. The main thing is finals footy is about the contest and ‘territory’ but it’s also about the loosening of the reigns from the coach to the chaos. Not to pick on Geelong - but Chris Scott would never advise his team on such a simple direction. He wants control he can’t get, and he wants to give direction that can’t be executed.
  6. Engorged… you edited this and your maths is still bad.
  7. I think Tomlinson can play with Lever, Petty and May anyway. It would completely release Lever and give the option to May if we wanted to get him peeling off more.
  8. The more you hear about this year and the the hub last year, the more I think that while Williams and Yze brought incremental improvements - the flag was birthed out of the guidance and drive of Goodwin with the support of his leaders on the field. He should be rewarded as much as we can within the soft cap allowances. Or pay the luxury tax - we can probably afford it.
  9. Ray, people will come, Ray. They'll come to Iowa for reasons they can't even fathom. They'll turn up your driveway, not knowing for sure why they're doing it. They'll arrive at your door as innocent as children, longing for the past. "Of course, we won't mind if you look around," you'll say. "It's only twenty dollars per person." They'll pass over the money without even thinking about it. For it is money they have and peace they lack. I think we should charge $20.
  10. I would argue that it helped us dominate the GF. But our ability to win in multiple ways won the flag. The Dogs are a great clearance team and that is all they had, they couldn’t score goals easily any other way, so when that swung 180 in our direction it became a domination.
  11. Mordor came after 186. One does not simply go into Mordor and win. Not with 10,000 men could you do this; it is folly. But after 2021:
  12. I know I say Mordor too but after 2021…
  13. So we are a top 4 team now - the first few rounds will be slowly getting back into the groove of a long season. Wins are great, losses will happen, don’t read much into what we do in that month. So stop talking about losing round 1 like it is so important. We have our sights a little higher than ‘early season momentum’ that’s the cute stuff that the Saints or Freo fans can coddle themselves with.
  14. My initial reaction was rolling my eyes and evidently Petracca had the same reaction. I think Burgess’ mention of his stuff; fresh mids, Jackson primed to dominate, power running Petracca and Oliver and the Dogs mids having spent their tickets - that’s more on why we turned it around.
  15. I doubt it. Petracca on the Sunday Footy Show was asked by Barrett that question and he was incredulous; I ran past Gawny and said “alright get up” and thought ‘you can’t be doing that, he’s 5’7 and you’re 6’11, c’mon mate’… 32.15 mins in
  16. Losing a game is not the end of the world. The unfurling will be remembered as it’s own thing.
  17. At least it is clear. Some hide behind state advice for venues and the like that constantly changes.
  18. What ‘they’ have done in 7 years is utterly staggering. Documentary worthy. 30 for 30 type stuff
  19. He’s a favourite of the pundit class, I hate the cheap stuff he gets - even that stupid hand off he effed up that led to Brayshaws goal - why are you getting that ball there, Caleb?
  20. If it’s a cash decision - the game against the Dogs in Rd 7 is going to get a good time a lot and 75k fans - the Rd 1 unfurling of the flag against GWS will also get 60k+ fans. So why not stretch those out? And members yes, but fans no. Blockbusters will mean people will miss out that want to go - that’s why they are block busters. I would do it Saturday arvo/twilight and celebrate with no other game on anywhere during the day with Port Adelaide. We’d get 80k I would say.
  21. TBH, I don’t like the idea of unfurling the flag in front of the GF losers. I would not like that at all if they did that in 2001. Secondly, Friday night games are not exactly family friendly. I would prefer we play an interstate team during the day and get as many Demons along as want to come. Of course, we shouldn’t say no to a blockbuster but I think the club pushing for this is misguided.
