Fully onside with this - Petty was playing as a fwd prior to his injury and was absolutely on fire during the game he injured himself. The D's need that sort of forward dominance as much or more than anything else. In his absence the shuffling of the deck saw Tommo playing 3rd tall back and starring in our best win of the year on KB. So what do we do in the following game ? Drop Tommo and play Petty back - right in the midst of a building fwd line dysfunction crisis that has cost us points and see us on the verge of losing top 4 and being no certainty for the 8. We had a superb backline with the 3 talls of Tommo, Lever and May - they performed cohesively to mop up the ladder leader. We have a fwd half that needs players producing as Petty did prior to his injury. I'm sorry but based upon the evidence I just do not get the selections being made in this respect.

There's no question about our attack on the ball or on any opposition who has the ball. It is. however, hard to reconcile the disparity between our skill levels and those of GWS' on the same field in the same conditions. They were so much cleaner with ball in hand and disposing of the pill. Everyone in Australia knew that the Alice was going to be under water for about 2 weeks prior to the game. Is this not an opportunity to make selections according to these conditions? Why ffs then BBB, Gawn and Grundy all in the team on such a day? Just how many overhead pack marks were to be expected? Wouldn't we be better served with low centre of gravity players like Dunstan who could help grind out a win? Out - selection committee for remainder of 2023 In - bring in a savvy administrator to make the calls There's also the obvious three pillars of Demon weakness to be befuddled by - delivery into the forward line, forward craft in leading and creating space and accuracy shooting for goal. For eg,, would like to see Trac being directed to not have shots but lower his eyes to try and give someone who has an at least 50% strike rate a chance to convert. We do have a few players who can kick straight besides Fritta - eg Bowey, Petty & JVR.......BBB in dry weather when he can take a mark and have a set shot. We simply are not kicking goals despite way enough opportunity to do so. Too many fwds missing too many opportunities - time to reconfigure? C'mon mate, I sat on Barassi's knee and bought a pair of Ron Barassi plastic boots out at Chadstone in the early 60's. JVR to continue with Smith and Fritta as the two mobile mid sizers - Smith's tackling is impressive. Disco or Mikshake as the sub. No Charlie.

Have been an advocate of Kozzi having a spell in the Casey's so as to refocus on a front and centre small role and desist from positioning himself behind packs and attempting MOTY launches. For mine he is wasting a core talent of reading the fall of the ball and using his speed to create space for an effective disposal. I had been thinking Clarrie in for Kozzi out - big call I know but with the intent of getting Koz right for the run home and finals. Watched the replay - enabled a review without the absolute edge of the seat angst and tension of game day that translates into exasperation at lost opportunities such as the outcome of the ball being launched out of our 50 post plays like another Kozzi failed speccy. While I'm still steadfastly against Koz trying to play tall, I was able to see his chasing, pressure and team spirit. He's not too far away - a couple of small adjustments and he'll be carving up opposition again soon. Clarrie in Charlie out.

Kozzie would greatly benefit from some Casey time -- with a focus on forward pressure, front and centre groundwork and team first. He is fast becoming a liability, which is such a pity as he has so much to offer. Both Thommo and Joel Smith have revealed themselves to be more than competent at AFL standard - which is a great bonus. Get the fundamentals of set shots in order and another flag is not out of the question.
