My 20 y/o grandson got knocked out stone cold in big surf a few months back and was unconscious for at least ten minutes. he was off work for 6 weeks and a dazzle says - no screens/phones/social media for him for over a month. Still has low energy days.

The onus is on the player performing the act to not endanger the other player. Any football act that results in head high contact ought result in a free kick and/or citation to the tribunal. Maynard's action incurred a downfield free as head high contact was immediately determined by the ump. That head high contact that resulted in a free also resulted in Gus being knocked out stone cold and transported off the field unconscious on a stretcher. This has meant he was unable to participate in practically an entire final, will miss at least another and may have his career shortened as a consequence. Maynard had a duty of care, when launching himself in a forward motion at an oncoming opponent, to ensure that the action did not result in head high contact. He failed to do so. He was negligent in his action. The perspective from behind clearly shows he turned prior to point of impact so that his shoulder collected Gus' head. The AFL have no choice if they are serious about minimzing these sort of incidents.

It's thinking outside the box time for the coaching and match committee.....we know there are likely to be two forced changes in Gus n Roo. We know the blitzkrieg carpet bombing into the fwd 50 was an epic fail and would be ludicrous to play on repeat...we know Tmac really struggled to be on task with the pace of AFL finals but will likely go again due to Roos likely absence and BBB, Petty and Melko's unavailability. In the wings wait Grundy, Shack and Tommo. On form Tommo is a shoe in - either as the third defensive wheel or a out of left field CHF - we can't call him on pace deficit and play others with a similar profile but way less form in other aspects of the game. Out - Gus, Roo (fingers and toes crossed not) In - Tommo, Grundy Sub - JJ for Laurie

It's great reading the optimism in this thread - shows we see ourselves as real, legit contenders. The mindset has changed and hatsoff to the D's (both AFL and AFLW) players and all others involved in making this so. Been waiting for this all my life - Go Demonsssssssss!

Yeah nah - KB v Pies saw Tommo in our best...great game against the pinging Pies.

It's pretty clear the defence and team have an excellent win/loss ratio with Tommo playing......the backline melds together really well with him playing his role. No ones over rating him -its that he's a good fit for that specific role in our team. Verifiable fact.
