  1. So according to The Age article, an academy or f/s would need to use a pick in the round a bid is placed to be matched, either current year or a future pick.

Not next year, of course, because picks have already been traded.

But guess what?... just in time for Kalani White in 2025 draft! Once again the goal posts are shifted and we come out losers

Coll, GCS and WB must be howling with laughter at the thought of this, given their great hauls under previous rules

Joe saved the club, the fact he didn't take up some land is secondary in my opinion. Atleast we still have a club. I am more concerned by the fact that a number of other boards haven't been able to do what they promised

Especially the current board, led by a person noted throught her career for getting big projects off the ground

  3. I think we will win the flag in 2024.

But it requires a number of things, not limited to:

    - very good run with injuries, particularly R18 onwards

    - Clarry to get his act together and do what Clarry does best

    - McQualter to fit in seamlessly to the FD and add new insight to our forward entries and set up

In the very slim chance we do not make finals, there will be some significant list changes, most notably senior coach

Just remember the Lexus centre was an asbestos riddled classified building. It was and is not great space.

Was the Olympic park development on the planning books at that time?

Not to my recollection. Olympic Park came after Coll took what is now Lexus Centre.

Ridiculing the work Joe Gutnik did in saving the club is almost treason. We had no finances at the time to invest in the old olympic swimming pool, the books from then show that. He stopped the merger and put in the single biggest donation the club is ever likely to see. Sure, he wasn't perfect, didnt fit the typical footy following stereotype, perhaps ran it his corperate way, which may have been required at the time. And the real estate investments he made are the reason we are now financially independent. But posters claiming to know the inner machinations of the board from that era without being on the board are just big-noting contrarians spreading hearsay.

Not saying that about you Diamond Jim, btw. Just a follow on from previous comments to yours

Governments give money to areas where their voters reside. We are the most labor state in the country and our club is the most liberal (from a supporter base) in the state. So, it makes sense that labor governments throw money at the likes of Hawthorn and areas like Geelong for funding.

    And the Casey area?

Considering they've rebuilt the whole place from scratch how hard would it have been to move the playing surface 5 metres to the west and make it oval shaped on the Moorabool St wing.

Not very good with surveying an oval down Geelong way

    Well then... you’re mad.

How dare you have a differing view!

I'd be wrapped if Kolt developed into the dangerous small/med goal kicking forward that we are so lacking atm. I sit at the G with someone who screams every time ANB fumbles and stuffs up an opportunity. It's quite entertaining to watch

    x1 in fact.

That’s going back a long way in any case.

Only 3 years before Mitch Robinson 😉

How about Toby Nankervis, Mihocek, BBB, Jeremy Howe, Jimmy Webster, Liam Jones, Aaron Hall, Lachine Weller, Tarryn Thomas or Alex Pearce?

Yes, but we moved up the the draft order to try and get a better player when we could have already got Tholstrup with our original pick 14. If we keep our current pick of 11 and take Tholstrup then we’ve essentially given away two 2nd round picks for nothing.

I think the media are hyping up that Melbourne want to pick him is because JT went over and met with his family and Curtins also which he mentioned was only routine.
JT mentioned he would take best available in his media segment yesterday. Tholstrup may be in first round contention and certainly will be a good player, but isn’t the best available at pick 11.

Wild speculation in much of your assumptions. Stating it is so does not make it true. You have no more idea than any of us if KT is to be picked by us nor if he is best available at 11 (13).

The only 'fact' we know is that JT has a great record of picking what we need. Have a little faith

Tholstrup was asked this on AFL gettable and explained it well.

From Esperance just to Perth is a fair hike I believe and he stated that trying to get all the family and friends to Perth alone would have taken an effort in itself let alone getting them all too Melbourne.

He said it would have been too hard trying to organise 20 plus family and friends to Melbourne.

@Pennant St Dee might explain it better but I believe his home town to Perth is a bit of an effort?

Beautiful location. Espy to Perth is a 8+ hour drive. I did it once hitchhiking in the middle of summer. Ahh... the stupidity of youth!

Can see why he'd stay home for the night if his whole family couldn't get over.

Sometimes we forget these are just kids, often from families that aren't flush with cash

Surely thats not right; nine days till pre season starts Nov26?.

Thats over 9 weeks break or 3 months for non finalists.Presumably non finalists started very early in Nov.

In a few weeks they'll all be packing up for another long xmas/new year break. .

Even training days are limited and over by late morning.  Good job if you can get it !

No wonder we can't kick straight.

Good lord, what an ignorant post!

You must be fun at parties

Amazing! So clean with his hands in marking contests. Probably 25 marks shown in that clip and not one double grab, all sticky, single touch marks.

Shame that he looks out of our reach
