One of the better stories for the Dees this year.
And congrats to him and his partner on the birth of their child
Looking forward to a big preseason from Joel and continued success in 2024

Reckon that's a good offer from Hawks. Hard for us to beat it

He’s not from Adelaide. He’s from a town like 500km away.
But he is from SA, and Melb is 1,300km away from his home town. He also played at Norwood before his draft. In short, he does have past links with SA and Adelaide city.
Not that this means he is homesick

Gold Coast? Would leave them in a tricky spot with draft points.
If he's out the door I'd take pick 4 and Ben King though.
Wasn't necessarily Oliver to GCS for 4 plus, but a scenario that gets us pick 4. Could be multi club deal

Cal Twomey is saying multiple first round picks.
Sorry, later pick was later 1st round pick. That would be multiple 1st round picks

Trade radio saying that a senario where pick 4 and a later pick might be enough for a trade with Clarry
Then 4 and 5 used towards pick1
We might have a few in tears on this board next week

Yeah look don't worry I definitely see that side of it as well, but I think Goody has now reached a point where enough is enough. He's backed these blokes long enough now and it hasn't paid off for the last 2 years. I think deep down he knows he's on borrow time with the list we have.
@WalkingCivilWar made an interesting discussion around Goody giving the players an almighty spray after our loss to Carlton in the final. Whilst its seen as completely out of character, I think that was the sign right there that he was at tipping point and was simply fed up with the playing group after backing them to the tilt.
Such an interesting few weeks coming.
Yes, and that post mentioned that Goody gave the biggest spray to Kossie post game on front of the while team. Wouldn't be the first rule of Management 101
Just throwing this out there... maybe part of the problem is Goody?

Unpopular opinion here but I have full trust in Goodwin and the list management however way they handle this situation.
Agreed overall, but there have been some f ups over the last year or two that have taken the shine off my view of our recruitment strategies. Grundy trade this year was a flop for what we had hoped for, and despite injuries we still lack a tall dominant forward, for which Gawndy was never going to succeed.
Are we seen as a 'destination' club anymore?
Perhaps that's a contributing factor in all the talk of getting high draft picks rather than landing a big 🐟
Granted, its early doors in the trade period

If, of we were to trade Clarry, I seriously think many Melbourne fans would be bitterly fissapointed with the return. IMO this talk of us working it to get picks 1 and 3 are pie in the sky stuff, even if we bundle 5 into it. I think we'd be more likely to be offered something roughly similar to the Jackson trade, 2 x 1sts and a 2nd, with the two 1sts being outside top 10
But it's all smoke and mirrors at the moment, who the f knows!

Well Clarries second half of the year was his poorest on record (in my opinion) and against a sensational last 4 years of great years. His return from injury and finals were underwhelming and I thought one of Goodwins tasks during the off season was to not only change the game plan or focus of our chaos ball attack, but to get Clarrie to buy in and get re-energised within the team. Not necessarily an easy thing to do.
Add to that Yze going, who the midfield team apparently loved and theres plenty of space for clubs and journos to see a chance of jamming a wedge into our fragile team ethos after straight set double exits. We can be guaranteed these sort of stories continuing to be shoved down our throat, just as sure as the feelgood stories will continue for the next 12 odd months about Collingwood. It will be MFC who will be held to account for Brayshaws concussion issues, not football hero Maynard.
Finally Oliver has yet to become an adult. He might be off-side.
These are big issues for us going forward and Kate Roffey through to Goodwin and Max and the whole playing list need to spend time and energy healing, re-focussing and uniting into a strong and driven club. We are in for a wild off season.
Whether it's an unfounded rumour or not, it's our response that will count.
Oh, come on!!!

Yeah righto...
And we are weighing up whether to make a play for Nick Daicos, the Bont and Walsh

Roos target pick one, Dee to go on, big Dog to stay - https://www.afl.com.au/news/1048225
Hard to see how we will beat the Roos hand. Will they give up 2 and 3 for pick 1? Big call for a team that is already top heavy with midfielders.
Reckon they'd give up 2 and a later 1st rounder. Don't they have 14 or something similar? Maybe a 2024 late 1st as well.
That leaves Norf with 1, 3 and the AFLs gifted end of 1st round. That's a bloody good hand. They might even grab O'Sullivan with 3 to replenish their key defensive stocks
A lot to like about Norf's list going forward
WCE get their WA boy and a couple of 1st rounders
Win/win

You can read into that that our salary cap is pretty tight!
I'll have a go...
Grundy leaving frees up possibly $650k, Hibberd about $450k, JJ maybe $300k, Dunstan $250k? If Harmes leaves that's another $450k
We'll inject about 4 in the draft, incl 2 x 1st rounders and Pup Brown. McAdam from Crows gets about $500k
I'd say our cap isn't overly tight

Happy about this, love what he brings to our forward line
Won't cost a lot, financially or list wise, especially with the number of players retiring or leaving for opportunities elsewhere

Don't think the 4 umpires has worked. They were bought in to oversee what the others missed.
That advantage call should have been communicated back to the ump that paid the free to bring it back.
Speaking of umpires, I think it's time to throw the ball up instead of bouncing it. I used to love the tradition of the umpires having a ball skill, now I'm just sick of seeing their crappy bounces being recalled. Happened at the very start of the GF, what a let down!

How did we end up with so many Laurie "type" players. If you include Spargo and Bedford we probably have 6 of these players of the same type, height and skill level.
Did we come up with a Hibberd understudy.... can't think of one
You do know that Bedford doesn't play for Melbourne? And that Hibberd isn't a "Laurie type" player? Or that most of those players aren't the same height or skill level? Eg Spargo isn't the same 'type' as Harmes or Jordan

Cox gets a $1 fine for his GF hip to the head, but JVR gets a week for similar against the pies
Go figure!

We can only hope that high on the AFLs 2024 priority list are corporate accountability and transparency, and improved standards of umpiring with a level playing field for all clubs.
Happy that Gil is leaving, unhappy that his replacement is from within the Boys Club
There should be more to the AFL than making profits

Pies shouldn't have been let past GWS prelim by the umpires

There were about 3 frees to Bris in the last 3 mins that went unrewarded, not to mention the ridiculous 'advantage' call

39 might move up as picks in the 20s and 30s are swallowed up for NGA and FS. Handy that it's inside 40 in case Dees look at our potential NGAs outside 40, eg. Riak Andrew
