Most of us probably expected a 10 goal loss. We lost by 5 points to a good side interstate. We have so much to be proud of despite being equally devastated that the result didn’t go our way (thank you umpires). We’re a long way off sure but we played better in that second quarter than we for a long time. We deserved to win this game. I think we’re all feeling a bit like the North supporters after their last fortnight.

I love the fight we’re seeing. Our contested ball is so much better than previous weeks.

Lions are [censored] dirty. Punching our players if they take a mark on them. Should be done for striking.

Defence looks so much stronger with Lever.

Rivers robbed. Umpiring shocking. Playing a fake tough team. Actually showed up. The score line feels much closer than it is.

I miss these games from when we were average at best - no expectations but wanting a fight and daring to dream. I hope we win but I’d honestly take an honourable loss.

We had something like 9 players 22 and under on the ground for the North game. This to me highlights that we’re already future focused and trying to develop our list. Yes we haven’t got much depth right now being hit by injuries but I feel like we are doing what we can and asking a lot of young players to step up into challenging roles. I’m bullish about the future with Rivers, van Rooyen, McVee, Bowey, Tholstrup, Howes, Brown, Windsor, Woewodin and Turner to name a few. They all have a huge amount of improvement yet in them in the years to come. Was really happy with the win given the past few weeks. I am very much hoping for a Binman special funky result against the Lions!

Hoping for a Binman wacky result.

If we within 50 points at half time we should easily have them by the final siren… North cannot play out a full game.

I really hope Trac comes back to the club and gives guidance on game day and mentor the mid group. He can still provide a lot from the sidelines. -

It’s the equivalent of Dusty getting a season ending injury half way through 2020. -

Remember 1998, when we lost in the Preliminary Final
OhMyDees replied to Farmer's topic in Melbourne Demons
1998 I’d argue was an even better shot than 2000. AFL shafted us by fixturing the Preliminary Final against North as a Night game. We played just one game under lights (Swans) in the whole regular season. North by contrast played 8 Night games and 1 in the QF against the Bombers. I always wonder if it would have made any difference if we were fixtured a day game? -
Smart move to watch the replay. We did have multiple times in the game where we were playing all over Collingwood but in many of these periods we just couldn’t convert or turned the ball over at critical moments. We could have easily closed the gap significantly in the second quarter. We had managed to narrow the margin to 8 points 3/4 of the way through the second quarter. I felt we almost had clicked into gear after Roo’s second goal. What killed off the game in my mind was the three late goals to Harrison, Krueger, and Hoskin-Elliott before half time which blew the margin out to a defendable 27 points. This combined with losing Petracca really hurt. However, it’s not as if we didn’t have a chance to get close in the 3rd but we just couldn’t convert again with 2 goals 5 to their 4 straight. I think the effort was there on Monday and we tightened up a lot of our game compared to the Freo game but our execution with hand and foot really cost us. Pies made us pay on turnover with I think 10 goals 1 behind. We didn’t put enough pressure on them to turn the ball over in the right places.
