Scoring V Defence 21-25 Stats
Saw a discussion between @At the break of Gawn and @Dr. Gonzo about forward connection VS defence in the ‘Simon Goodwin Sacked’ thread and thought I would have a look at some stats, year by year, in terms of team rankings per year. (Not trying to prove who’s right and wrong, just thought it would be an interesting set of stats to look at to compare how much better/worse we are). Scoring/connection forward: I included inside 50’s, marks inside 50, marks per 50, marks taken on lead, total shots, accuracy, goals inside 50, set shots inside 50 and averaged them all out in terms of ranking per year. 2021: Avg. 5.5th (marks taken on lead we were 5th!!!!!) 2022: Avg. 10.75th 2023: Avg. 10.6th 2024: Avg. 11th 2025: Avg. 11.6th (marks on lead we are 16th!!!!!!) 2025 is our worst scoring/forward connection year. We’ve basically only gotten worse…. —-——————————————————- Defence: Includes defensive 1V1, loss %, tackles, tackles in D50, pressure acts, defensive pressure acts, Spoils. 2021: Avg. 4.8th (1st for tackles that year!!!!!) 2022: Avg. 9.8th 2023: Avg. 7.14th 2024: 9.7th. 2025: 11.8th (14th for tackles this year!!!!!) This year is our worst year in terms of defence metrics. Again, we’ve only gotten worse. —-————————————————— So this year has been our worst ranking year since the granny both offensively and defensively by these metrics 😳😳😳😳😳 Can break any stat lines down year by year if people want. Happy Stattin’

Who Will Be Our Next Coach?
Would you do me the honour of telling me what he said so I don’t have to watch it? Haha

Cam Bruce to Melbourne?
I had heard that was the case in the earlier years but I’d say that in the year they got to the Granny, that team throughout the entire back half of the season was filled to the brim of these lesser players. They had the 2nd worst injury list that year! If I can remember, I think at stages they had 3/4/(5?) out of their starting backline out but kept winning. And I’m not disagreeing with you, just pointing out that year he was able to squeeze as much out of the second 22 players that came into the side FWIW.

POSTGAME: Rd 23 vs Hawthorn
You didn’t know what the word energetics meant and it’s no surprise that in Girards theory of mimetics you have neglected to mention that a crucial end state of his theory is that of scapegoating: I.e. arbitrarily and subjectively selecting a group or individual and placing blame on them as a post-hoc fix for the failures identified in the mimetic process in the first place. So right now you are doing, literally, what Girard says happens in his model of mimetics in scapegoating Chandler. I guess everyone should thank you in being the perfect example of his model. You don’t understand Energetics and you don’t understand Mimetics. Please continue in explaining how all Dees supporters are clueless in what they’re talking about.

Simon Goodwin Sacked
What a disgracefully anti-demonland comment.

I’m confused, so it wasn’t a unanimous decision? Or am I misunderstanding?

PODCAST: Rd 22 vs Western Bulldogs
If I’m not mistaken, Goody said for the last half or third of games last year, he reverted back to the older style of slower, contested ball because he wanted to stay in the games. IMO, this actually cost him time for the team to be able to adapt. He needed to stay the course during those games. Instead we lost a lot of those games anyway, people became frustrated that things weren’t changing and it bled into this year with the losses we had. He tried to stem the bleeding and was reactive in doing so, which just ate up time and patience for a lot of fans, in my opinion.

Ok, you started off talking about this whole thing saying: ‘Happy to reiterate for those who don’t understand football and Energetics’ Flow state and Taoism are not Energetics. Energy in physics/hard science disciplines is not the same as someone’s level of focus/state of mind or ‘Qi’. You’re going to have a tough time helping people to understand a word that you also don’t know the meaning of.

Energetics is the study of energy, as in the scientific use of the word energy to mean ‘capacity to do work’ alah Physics/biochemistry etc. So what exactly is it you’re referring to when you use the word energetics and how is it a ‘subtle’ philosophy? Can you reference someone else using this word?

What are you referring to when you say energetics? Do you understand energetics?

POSTGAME: Rd 22 vs Western Bulldogs
Had a look at the whole years stats and it’s: Hit outs: 768- 620 Clearances: 730-736 Centre Clearances 255-240 Stoppage - 475-496 So we’ve won a truck load more hit outs but as other have mentioned, our mids aren’t taking advantage. Whatever the reason for the disconnect, we’re +148 for hit outs but -12 for all clearances.

Would Maxy (or any senior Ruck) have input with the mids coach as to the set up? Or is there no collaboration and it’s totally dictated too by said coach?

Knowing how to win
I listened to an interview with fitness coach Andrew Russel about his time at Carlton (he was at Hawthorn during their golden era) and he said two things that really stuck out to me: Carlton had a mindset of losing. They were used to losing and that becomes ingrained in players and the culture. He said in the Prelim where they lost to Lions from being 5 goals up, they were 2 points down at half time but he was confused, as the feeling in the rooms was they were down by 10 goals. At the end of that game, he was expecting everyone to be angry/heartbroken at the loss, but instead Carlton was cheered off the ground in that game and he found the whole thing bizarre as that just wasn’t ever a mindset he experienced at Hawthorn. He basically said there was the big disconnect between what was happening and everyone’s response. Makes me wonder about these close losses.
