Stuff drafting a kid, poach a key forward.
JimmyGadson replied to Gorgoroth's topic in Melbourne Demons
Haha. Soooo what are you saying? McStay was a free agent and the pies went hard after him. So many pundits laughed at Collingwood's aggression to land him. I don't know what you're saying? They got Billy Frampton for peanuts who ended up playing a pivitol role on Andrews in the granny. All of this backs my point which is that supporters have nfi by wanting to hold onto players because they're emotionally attached. Everyone thought Collingwood would be cooked both culturally and list-wise when Treloar and Stephenson left. And last year everyone laughed at them for their inclusions and the fact they pushed Grundy out. Look what happened? HELLLLOOOOO. I think the MFC need to take a leaf. Time to look FORWARDDDDDDD. Not just next year and the year after. We've wasted two finals campaigns by staying stagnant. -
I'm just not short-sighted and obsessive with our current list, like you and so many others. My god, if someone could be bothered, I'd love to see which posters bemoaned Frawley leaving, Watts leaving, the inclusion of Melksham etc etc. It would be hilarious. So many. I'm keen on becoming a club that builds its profile and supporter base by creating sustained success. How do you think that occurs, ol' mate PA? I'll be clear again. Nobody knows the machinations or players available for trade. Why do you think I'm obsessed with unders talent alone? It's a clearly a mixture of both? And when you give up something, that opens avenues to so many possibilities. You and your merry followers refuse to see. Again. Why don't you just stick to telling us how bullet proof our game plan is come finals time? I'd love to hear it again.

All of your responses are exactly what I'd expect. You can't SEE how losing Petty would result in a net positive over time. But that's the game. What kind of a club do you want to be? All in on chips now to try and nab another flag next year? Or increase your chances (depending on how we replace Petty, but most definitely with high end talent) for future years? And what does that look like? Look. When I read posters' responses to these types of scenarios, it's alwayyssss the same. Think about Frawley leaving.. The vast majority wanted him to stay. Precisely for the same reason. Nobody could see what the future would be like. It's the exact same scenario. Nobody knows what Petty's replacement could be. Nobody knows what we could do with the hand of picks we'd receive. Only those in charge. Given our track record with picks and trades, why is there not the same confidence that we'd make the right call. If we had one or two down years in order to gain another 5-7 up, would supporters be upset? You have to take a chance. You have to be forward thinking. All I can say is thank god emotional supporters don't run list management. We'd hold everybody until they're cooked with nfi of what to do about the future due to fear of 'getting it wrong'. Lord.

If we got creative, 10, 20 and McAdam for Petty could be a great investment for the future. Especially if we got a stop-gap player in the meantime.. Supporters always fear the worst and get super emotional over these sorts of deals. Only because there's no way of seeing the future outcome of the deal and fear of the unknown is a real thing lol. But what it'd allow us to do as far as move up the draft again and/or take on a Haynes contract with GWS first pick or something of the like. (the possibilities are many). I don't mind it. In my mind, we've got to give something to get something to move forward. I rate Petty really highly. But not more than a serious rejig of our list in general. And sometimes these decisions need to be made in order to stay there-abouts over multiple campaigns. And if we want to see sustained success, these are the kind of list management decisions that need to happen. Hard one. But if what is reported is true, that's a seriously good offer for one player. I'd do it for sure.

Lol. You'd ask for what?

I don't understand Demonland's obsession with a key forward. Look at what Collingwood just did. They had Cox and Mihocek as keys. Unless it's Naughton, nobody is going to be able to mark the majority of ball we have coming in. I don't know what the club will do this trade period, but my view is that we've got to get finishers and users both in the forward half and through the midfield. ANB, Langdon, Spargo, Chandler and all of Trac, Oliver and Viney starting in the midfield next year isn't going to win us a flag. Sure, it'll have us competing. But the same issues will arise, guaranteed. -
The 2023 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
JimmyGadson replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Firstly, we didn't have the draft capital last year. Secondly, the silly part is to think that one of us should be able to see how a move up the order can be achieved as Demonland posters. Our chances are moving up are much higher than last year, given our hand. And I'm hoping we can move into the top 10 and see a very real possibility of that happening, without knowing all avenues. I don't think for one minute it is silly to assume this, especially given our track record. -
The 2023 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
JimmyGadson replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'm sure you have asked this everytime we've managed to move up the order of the draft. Let the cobblers do the cobbling eh? -
Yeh I know he didn't make excuse. We as a club have made excuses though since that 21 flag. But he thinks we're better than them and should have 'smoked' them and stated it publicly. They won the flag, beat us in the most important game (bar the grand final) of the year for us and have had the wood over us for years. It's just a thoughtless public statement made from a previous captain of an AFL club and it simply doesn't wash because we lost to them in a big final and they won the flag.

The 2023 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
JimmyGadson replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
A lot to play out. But I'll be super disappointed if we can't manage to move up the draft to get one of McKertcher, Sanders, Duursma or Watson with the hand we have. It's a priority for us to get some new high end talent to compliment our list. Not thrilled with the dogs ability to get GC's pick 4. But we have other avenues. Personally I'd like to go all in for three picks inside 10 this draft, two players in the top 7 hopefully. -
There wasn't talk because we weren't expected to win it. The level of expectation and pressure wasn't the same. And it's not balls. Balls is getting the job done, without excuse. Regardless of injury, concussion to players, 'expected-score' excuse.

I rarely see you question anything. Or even engage in any sort of robust footy discussion. You just seem like the happy-go-lucky Melbourne supporter ala Rhino who sits there face-palming comments they don't like. How boring.
-
Where's the nuance? Why does it have to be black and white? How hard is it for him to articulate how disappointed he is in the group and the year that we've had and speak from the heart in that sense? You can't begrudge someone for speaking from the heart and actually opening up on how they really feel. Surely that will connect with supporters and therefore have a far greater impact? What he said sounded precisely like a what an 18 year old's speech would sound like at a local footy bnf. And then people will excuse the drink? Man. Just carry yourself with some semblance class and humility for Christ's sake. It's not that hard.
-
Onya @WalkingCivilWar Keep those facepalms coming and not engaging in any sort of debate. Really suits you.
-
I don't think any other 'past captain' of an AFL club would say something that sounds as whingey as that at a bnf speech. 'We're better than this year's premiers and we should have smoked them'. It just doesn't stick. It's sooooooo foolish. Who would say it?
-
Desperately homesick and demanding to come home ey? Or. He's coming home, (for reasons you nor I have any idea about). And he's 'requested' a trade to Collingwood or has nominated them as his club of choice, as all players have the right to do. Ahhh sounds so different when you don't exaggerate.
-
Whatever gets supporters going I guess. We've heard a lot of 'talk' from our players since the '21 flag though haven't we. Premiership on the G, our team is unbelievable, last year's straight sets really being a motivator for this year, Langdon against Pies, May at the bnf... Talky talk. I'd much rather shut our mouths and just go about our business.
-
Apologies, it wasn't an excuse. It was just poorly articulated from a senior leader to a public audience which is obviously going to get out. It just seems really childish and irks me. You can't say you're better than a team that just won the flag and you lost to them in the quarter final. It just doesn't make sense!
-
Why did you have to show this on demonland?! Begone with this information! Our mids are untouchable, the best in the league by a mile and we don't need any of that to show otherwise thanks!
-
Man. You've got to laugh at anyone who agrees with May's comments from the bnf. Talk about immaturity again. He sounded like a man-child and I highly doubt Goodwin and co would agree that his view was representative of the groups. His comments sounded like an arrogant spoilt child if you ask many people. And of course those comments will be used by Mcrae etc. They thrive off things like this. The fact is, they won a flag and after losing a prelim by a point last year and we've bundled out in straight sets two years running. You simply can't throw up excuses like that as a senior member of an AFL club. It's sooooooo cringe and childish. Joisus.

You sure about that..

I'm convinced @Rhino Richardsand @WalkingCivilWarare the same poster.

Cheers mate!

Have a cup of tea, a bex and a lie down.

Von my son. You've misread and misunderstood me by some margin. I can't respond if you think I'm comparing Oliver to Treloar and Stephenson. I'm out.
