    Only just saw it mate.

And Morrison's clearly intent on killing the economy. Since the Libs took over in 2013, they doubled all national debt since Federation (since Federation!) in 6 years, in strong economic conditions. But you'd never know it because Costello runs Channel 9 and The Age, Murdoch still has the largest circulation of newspapers and Sky News, the ABC has been gutted (turning into the Government's mouthpiece as Tony Abbott said they should be), Channel 10 have Joe Hilderbrand (need I say more) and 7 West Media may as well be the official mouthpiece of Gladys' State Government.

There's multiple instances where countries have defaulted on loans and the CCP have stepped in (see Sri Lanka), which is why Andrew Robb's deal for the Darwin Port to his new Chinese company that he sat on the board of was so traitorous.

But in terms of our club, in the short to medium term (the next decade), we'll survive because there's money at stake and the AFL is a multi billion dollar business. But in the long term... unless we start winning, I don't think we'll survive.

Taking CCP money entails political compromises. It means we throw Taiwan under the bus. Before we do that, we might to want consider if there are any other democracies of 20-odd million in Asia that we might want to preserve...

I think Petty (replacing May) is a lock. The only other change that might occur is Hibbard who was BOG last Saturday maybe at the expense of Jetta. ?

Was thinking the same, but just watched the first half again and Jetts is our lockdown one on one man where Hibbo is the gun runner...... Might be an error to swap one for the other unless a change of strategy is required???

  4. Well, for what it's worth, I kinda like the idea. Eddie's energy and ideas, diligence, and maths for that matter, are optimistic and bold. But that's the kind of thinking that makes Western societies dynamic.

Only thing is I reckon the talent is already spread thin. A country of 25 million, 2/3 of which play the game, can only produce so many elite athletes. One relocation and one closure would do it, or two relocations and a combine. Sure, either of these options are gonna hurt, but they've been done twice and we got used to it, especially once those teams experienced success...

Teams have come and gone. Anybody still mourning University?  Happens all the time with relegation in the EPL, recognising that fortunes wax and wane with talent and energy and ideas and application.

Absolutely. Max is next level marking threat up forward.

If we play two talls and Jackson, they have the option of giving Tmac, Brown or Weed a rest when Max goes forward if they are worried about being too tall.

The other thing have so many mobile talls in the teams is their ability to push up the ground and provide down the line marking options from long kicks out of defence or kicks from the half back to high half forward.

West coast use their three tall forwards  (Darling, Allen and Kennedy) for this all the time, and it is a huge weapon, particularly late in quarters and games.

It also has the effect of pulling defenders out of the forward line, which creates space for the small,  mediums and the other bigs to go to work.

Think about how often it is one of Darling, Allen or Kennedy kicking it inside 50, often to one of the other bigs or setting up Ryan to take an unimpeded fly at a pack mark. They killed Port with this tactic.

No doubt the kick from Viney to Max was a set play. Langdon did an almost identical kick, with much the same result.

A bunch of great ideas here and in the previous posts. Yeah, I'm totally onboard with three talls + Max ... as long as one of them is Jackson.

My only caveat is that he is young, and though he ran a lot of K's and got a fair number of possessions he hasn't been an overwhelming presence, yet. But that is a big 'yet.' He's young, obviously, and bursting with potential, for sure; I just hope the footy gods allow it come to fruition.

The though of Jacko ruck-roving to Max in the middle has me salivating. Next season, I reckon, once the young fella has another preseason in the gym.

    Much more worried about Weid.

The words of Kelly O Donnell still ring loudly when describing Jackson..

"He's got the best running patterns I've ever seen in a long long time for a young ruckman"

    Well worth the watch again.

Cheers, that was excellent. A brilliant series unfortunately and maligned for it's title. Never bothered me, TBH, just thought it referred to pre-season training taking players to the toughest places.

There's no room for Tmac. Brown, Weid as the key talls, Jackson as the third tall/ruck. Fritsch and the smalls to compliment.

Yeah, and Binman has pointed out that Jacko as a third tall is a nightmare to match up against. With Gawn rotating in the ruck/forward/back, the side is looking very tall, but strong. What about the wing?

Agree. A star. So athletic  - and as good below his knees as any big I've ever seen.

Really glad he slotted his goal too.

And loved his move to grab the ball at centre square bounces.

Important that he rucknin the last as it allowed Max to go forward.

    Good move by goody

What happens when Weid and Brown return?

This could probably go into the Burgess thread, but with the acknowledgement on AFL360 of Max's aerobic impact around the ground on Monday night, it led me into thinking about the impact of Burgess on the group.

As dedicated fans on this site know - our 2020 campaign was curtailed (amongst many reasons) due to shorter quarters on the assumption that with Burgess on board, he would transform the players aerobically.

    Now the reality is this...

You can work in elite sport, and not be elite in your field.

I'll say it again... you can work in elite sport and not be elite in your field, I know it, as I have lived it.

So if there are 17 other High Performance Managers within the AFL system, what is about Burgess's planning and frameworks that are markedly different from what the players were exposed to before (or other teams are exposed to)..

And the inference is that if/when he heads to Adelaide, then they get to drink the magic Burgess Elixir... but it can't simply be Burgess's IP that no-one else has... as HPM's operate in such a small niche world, they all know one another.

So, as pundits, are we legitimately seeing an aerobic difference in our players? Are we drinking some of the kool-aid? Attributing improved aerobic fitness, when it may not be there?

I mean, it looks to be there... but is that due to his frameworks, or is it the age bracket of some of our players, compared to two years earlier?

    Any input is good input...

    post script

I know that Burgess spent a lot of time in the EPL - their athletes historically have run more km per game than AFL - but now (I believe) we surpass them...with the high collision impacts as well (which is pretty incredible as a sport to bare witness to).

However the media and coaches for many years have been recruiting 'athletes' to turn them into footballers, or acknowledging how aerobically large the game is now.

My point is - surely it isn't mere exposure to working in the EPL as Burgess has (have other HPM's in the league spent time there?) - that the penny has dropped for them to add in more aerobic work (to come from a simplistic perspective).

Any High Performance Managers in Demonland want to add their 20cents worth?

I am to HPM what Binman is, but without his natural talent. Nevertheless, Burgo says that EPL players have far more acceleratIons and decelerations than AFL players, and the players are smaller, lighter and far, far more agile. Robbie Gray is a bog standard soccer player in terms of agility. I think these points of difference figures into his methods somehow as I have never seen a team as lean as ours this season.

Don’t know how, but if I knew what he knew and thought there was an advantage in it somewhere, I’d use it. Of course. The question is, what advantage could there be in being leaner and more agile than others while maintaining optimum upper-body strength to compete with the opposition?

  11. Well, here's my two cents. It takes 2-3 seasons for a program to mature. We looked fit in 2020 and we look fitter again now. If we're close to maturation as a club and a team and Burgess sees one more season as bringing a program to fruition, he'll stay for 2022. If results this year are mediocre and suggesting a mediocre 2022, he'll go.

Anyone interested in Burgo should check out the Brukie and Burgo podcast. Fascinating for anyone interested in sport and the  people involved at the top level.

On Gus, he better learn how to adapt because his future at the dees is on the wing. With our new way of playing the very last thing we need is another inside bull.

Brings up another tactical point for discussion. If Gus's future is on the wing, how does it fit with the mooted and trained TMac wing option once Weid and BBB are fit?

Then there's the glut of talls. Jackson gets VFL time to mature and blossom, fair enough. Petty too, I suspect they want to take slow given the injuries. Nothing negative for him to play a solid season in the 2's to be primed.

How do these factors fit into the evolving strategy?

I sense a trade coming, possibly for Gus. Mitch Brown will bow and and not be replaced with another tall. How can we play the list to bring in Zac Merrett?
