  1. If there is any coach replacement to be done, it should be at Casey. We need s strong VFL team, as we had before, and Casey started sliding the minute it changed coaches. A strong VFL team, thoroughly trained in the system, provides the base for success. And I don't think it is about personnel; it is about how the players operate within the system.
  2. They've done it for years - worst offenders are Hawkins and Cameron - and I have never ever seen them pinged for it. Sorry, I forgot to mention Dangerfield....
  3. I remember when they brought in the OOF rule and he was asked about it - he said something like "I wouldn't have worried, I was pretty good at the off-break". Great sense of humour...
  4. Sorry to disagree with everyone, but I think it is great. Alistair Clarkson said years ago that if they want to get the game more free flowing, they should enforce holding the ball.
  5. Completely agree with the first part (I have no opinion about improving soccer) . Our game plan is to win tight contested ball and defend - and then to take scoring opportunities if we can. I don't find it boring at all - and especially am not bored by our win/loss record over the last 4 seasons.
  6. You shouldn't have summed up the strength. He is one guy I really dislike - not least, because his physical tactics (in particular the use of his knee - how ironic) have real potential to cause injuries.
  7. People seem to think that in his presser, Voss was talking about the holding the ball rule. It didn't sound like it to me; it sounded like he was whinging about the free kick differential against GC. And if I am right: major hypocrisy.
  8. It's going back a bit but tell that to Brian Wilson - or in the present, Jack Gunston. Or, come to think of it, Brodie Grundy.
  9. Can't believe the negativity on this thread after a dominating win - actually, it's Demonland, maybe I can. The criticism of Petty identifies people who watch TV rather than going to the game. He created a lot of contests but also, there were a number of times where he was 20m in the clear when we were streaming forward and the ballcarrier chose other options. Kick it to him and he has a 3-4 goal game and doesn't get criticised. He is learning; he still doesn't fully trust his foot (I really hope that he hasn't had real harm to it today) and all Melbourne supporters should know that it takes over a year to really come back from a foot injury - look at Viney, Trengove, TMac, Vandenberg .... Petty just needs time.
  10. Something tells me you are a glass half empty kinda guy.
  11. Your point?
  12. Don't worry, WCW. I think 99% of DLanders realise that Kent is a troll who misspells his name.
  13. RDB and Robbie are clearly at the head of the pack in my lifetime, although we are incredibly lucky to have CP5, Max and Clarry, all of whom may be in the conversation. Can I mention David Schwarz, who if he had not been injured and have maintained his 1994 form would be right up there.
  14. 100% agree
  15. Collingwood, who are second favourites for the premiership, had beaten Carlton by only 6 points the week before. Carlton came out breathing fire after that loss and yes, we started slowly and poorly. Our comeback was remarkable. What I was trying to say is, clearly the club is aware of these problems and is trying to address them. But it is not all doom and gloom; we have performed excellently over the last few years and I am confident we will continue to do so. No, I am not a troll. I don't come on to Demonland to bag the club. I am a supporter of the Melbourne Football Club who has faith that the coaches are trying to address these problems. I also have faith they know a lot more about what they are doing than I (or you) do.
  16. Agree. It was a thing of beauty.
  17. Just looked into this thread. First comment: the complaint is about the change in game style. For the last two years there have been any number of critics (moaners) who say Goody doesn't change things, isn't flexible. Now the complaint is that he has been flexible and changed things. Secondly, the theme is: Our game plan is no good. Is that what people thought after the Geelong game? Or when watching the comeback against Carlton? Third: The complaints about failure to get a good KPF and good ball users. As others have said, it is HARD to get s good KPF to swap clubs, and the threads has noted that we tried hard to get Tex. But our recruiting over the last few years has included JVR and Jefferson, as well as trading for BBB, Schache and Fullarton - clearly the club is trying to address this, and I believe that next year JVR will be a star. But young KPFs take time to develop. As for good ball users. - isn't that why we picked Windsor and traded for Hunter and Billings, and why we are playing McVee, Howes, Bowey? Yes, there is room to get much better, but noone should think the club doesn't know these things or isn't addressing them.
  18. Just watched Goody's presser. What a contrast with Chris Scott!! First question was about MFC but he straight away turned it into complimenting West Coast. At least he showed that he's taking the loss very seriously
  19. BBB is a very good person and has been a very good player - but not for the future. Salem is not a midfielder - his disposal is not as good as it was and he is too slow. Now is the time for our good players to stand up.
  20. Who knows if it will work out as well as that, but it is the right thing to do and it will give him some confidence and some knowledge of the game.
  21. Swans v us
  22. Reading this thread, about how good James Jordon is, I am now convinced. We should have kept him and traded Petracca or Oliver.
  23. I just loooove seeing Geelong brought back to earth.
  24. Do we gather that you approached him at his house, and did not leave when asked?
  25. I think under no circumstances should be tamper with our backline. Apart from a short lapse in the first quarter against Carlton, it has done an unbelievable job. Having TMac in great form back there has been the final piece in the jigsaw. With Salem, his form before his injury was not that great. To me, he seemed to be a little bit slow for a midfielder but I suspect he would be best served by a short stint at Casey to find form and fitness. If Fullarton is fit, surely this is exactly the situation the club got him for: we need a fill-in forward/ruck, and this is his opportunity. If we don't select him, why have we got him?
