  1. Who knows whether the prospect of getting traded to a strong Vic club might make one of the previously settled Vic kids put their hand up to return home?
  2. Serong extended in 2020 till the end of next year. If he signalled an interest to come back to Vic, his existing contract is no barrier. Young’s deal expires at the end of ‘27 (basically till free agency).
  3. 1st rounder & Finn Callaghan? Unless we could get Flynn or Briggs as back up rucks, we wouldn’t be getting our kpf from the GWS list.
  4. Jefferson looked to have some very nice traits, but would take time and want see how he goes with a bit less room to operate in. As far as ruck prospects go, Harry Barnett from SA could be one and we haven’t seen Matty Elliott’s boy (Will) yet, but he has some talent. Broadbent from WA has some nice traits (but if Jacko does go, will be gun shy on drafting a ruck from WA?). None are quite like Jacko, but Barnett looks very promising:
  5. If Lobb is still looking to push for a trade, I wonder if GWS is still the preferred location (interesting to hear Dogs are linked). I’d struggle to see Jacko, Darcy, Taberner & Lobb all fit, so can see him moving on. Also struggle to see how Freo would satisfy Melb in trade, but maybe GWS could be linked in to the trade to get a fairer outcome (in any hypothetical trade scenario).
  6. Ah yes, my mistake. My head went to the one more likely!
  7. Will be an interesting watch next season as he makes his way back from ACL. Currently contracted till ‘24.
  8. Carlton have Curnow, McKay & De Konig all out of contract next year, if we lose Jacko, I’d be trying very to shake one of those loose with that money. At that point we could offer the dollars and success. Carlton could be stretched with the dollars. McKay & Curnow will be RFAs.
  9. Reid was terrific all game, definitely one for next year and imagine he’ll go quite high. Def didn’t see 13 on the coverage, so think you’re right on no. 30. Was a good contest, think the quality in the top 30 this year will be quite good. Intriguing to see if Ashcroft nominates Brisbane under f/s, there’s a genuine contest for pick 1 between he, Wardlaw and Tsatas. Sheezel not too far behind based on his season so far and Philipou is jumping right up into the conversation (only flashes from him today).
  10. Karl Amon Cup on Sunday?
  11. We went fairly hard at Cerra last year, wouldn't have done so without some room to move.
  12. A couple of public schools have created strong sports focused programs that have produced elite athletes, Maribyrnong College & Rowville Secondary College (Darren Bewick has been doing a lot work there and they had a few boys drafted last year) immediately spring to mind. Still, pathways through the private system are well established and the most commonly followed into the AFL system.
  13. Freo are borderline for the eight this year, but are well placed to go places in the not too distant future. There’s a decent cluster of young talent on that list, so they aren’t without appeal for a talented West Australian looking to go home.
  14. Was extremely stiff not to get All Aus guernsey. By the end of the final series it was clear which one of he & Bailey Dale was the more effective player under pressure.
  15. His first wicket was R Shastri, caught in the outfield by DM Jones. He changed the game before our very eyes. We knew he was special and we were so, so lucky to see it. He’s been ever present for 30 years and it just doesn’t feel right that he’s gone, just like that. Vale Warney. Will never see his like again.
  16. That's such sad news. RIP Harley.
  17. Picked up the blu ray last weekend from JB, handily scored a Black Friday discount to boot. Got a bit of joy from watching with the MMM commentary featuring Luke Darcy. He kept it together reasonably well...
  18. We’ve had a number of guys really improve their kicking game in the last 12 months (Oliver & Langdon come to mind), I really think we’re providing a great environment for players to develop their skills. Am comfortable that Williams & co will help Howes clean up deficiencies in technique, he already seems to make good decisions with ball in hand, which is often half the trouble.
  19. Have seen him clear 50m relatively comfortably, the concern with that ball drop is the reduced time he’ll have to get the ball from hand to foot at AFL level. The speed of the game will be a big adjustment.
  20. Howes kick doesn’t look too bad here: Maybe not as fluid an action as the top end kicks, but decent touch and can get good distance. I think McVee is the best kick of our 2021 draft crop. His foot skills look very, very good.
  21. Bravo Demonstone! Worth noting that the Lions will likely trade out their first rd pick to match a high bid on Ashcroft, and depending on how Alwyn Davey’s boys go next year, Bombers will almost certainly be trading out their 2nd & possibly even their first. It went largely unnoticed, but we were very shrewd in trading out our 3rd & 4th rounders for 2022 equivalents to bank some picks as trade capital for next year. We’re well positioned to rinse, repeat & trade back into the first round next year. Looks a good crop if Jed Hagan and Adam D’Aloia can’t crack the above lists. Also worth noting one of the top tall prospects, Alex Condon from WA has chosen basketball over AFL (a reverse Jackson?).
  22. From Jordan McArdle who’s been covering the draft out West: Geraldton/ @EFFC product Judd McVee the only West Aussie picked up in the rookie draft. Once rated a top-10 draft prospect when he won WA’s under-16s MVP award, McVee has great foot skills, composure across half-back. Joins Sharks teammates Trent Rivers, Luke Jackson at the Dees.
  23. I get the impression we're focusing more on a replacement for Hibberd/Nev earlier on.
