  1. You're dropping Jackson for Mitch Brown then? And he's also now behind Daw in the pecking order? That you Bevo?
  2. I mean, 33 disposals, 11 tackles, 7 marks and 8 clearances in just over 3/4s of a game is a decent hitout. Seems to be a heavier tint of red and blue on the glasses since the premiership.... ;)

That Daniher bloke goes alright hey Demonlanders...
  4. Don't have a definitive answer, been trying to find out as well, but there's nothing on the Casey socials about practice games etc yet and round 1 is next Sunday for us, so I'm going to guess there might be a praccy or intraclub tomorrow. Anyone know for sure? Edit - Scratch that, looks like there was a praccy on Thursday night.
  5. You've got to actually try (or at least pretend) to keep the ball in play. He didn't do that. Just tucked the ball in and ran over the line. Too casual.

100% the coach IMO. Anyone else watch/remember the 'Making Their Mark' doco series? I think Dimma is a bit of a kn*b, but the difference between his team meetings and the Cameron ones were stark. Every Richmond player knew the answers to Dimma's questions, every hand up, positive and proactive, then cut to Cameron's ones and it was just him abusing a room full of young men all with their heads down and not talking.

Perhaps, although as already mentioned, GWS may have been happy to snap up Dogga. I'm sure glad we did.

I remember someone mentioning that here back around that draft I think, could have even been yourself. Taylor absolutely loved Green, I'm a fan of him now too, but he ended up leaning the right way hey!

Doggies are intentionally standing back from the mark so they can move around as a tactic this year apparently.
  11. I've not see anyone state that's their job or that's what they want though? There's clearly boundaries to that, and IMO someone being not selected due to form is purely a football matter and not a personal one. Had he been not selected due to mental health reasons or any other personal matter then fair enough, probably not going to be ok in most cases and better to let the club handle it.
  12. Might be a cop out cos it's a tricky one - But if I was the umpire I would judge it on if Weightman only had eyes for the ball or if he deliberately ran into Smith. If Weightman was making a legitimate attempt to mark then I would say free kick to him for a block. As the 'spirit and intention' of the marking rule says "The Player whose sole objective is to contest or spoil a Mark shall be permitted to do so."
  13. I like Smith, but come on mate. Going a bit far now. 5 clangers (2 direct turnovers) from 11 disposals the other night. Averaged 2.7 clangers (2.3 turnovers) from his 6.7 disposals last year. I would rate that as an average kick and decision maker. He's not horrible like some make out, but definitely wouldn't be saying 'pretty strong' in that area, and 100% would not be saying he's a more reliable kick than May.
  14. When you look at the rules as a whole, IMO it seems clear it all involves contact. The Smith decision wasn't for a 'block' anyway was it? And I've never seen a block paid as a free without contact. I think your copy might be from the 2019 version? Full 2021 copy here: 52 L AWS OF AUSTRALIAN FOOTBALL 2021 18.5 MARKING CONTESTS 18.5.1 Spirit and Intention The Player whose sole objective is to contest or spoil a Mark shall be permitted to do so. 18.5.2 Free Kicks - Marking Contests A field Umpire shall award a Free Kick in a Marking contest against a Player where the Player: (a) holds or blocks an opposition Player; (b) unduly pushes or bumps an opposition Player; (c) deliberately interferes with the arms of an opposition Player; (d) makes contact to an opposition Player from front-on and whose sole objective is not to contest or spoil a Mark; or (e) makes an unrealistic attempt to contest or spoil a Mark which interferes with an opposition Player. 18.5.3 Permitted Contact Incidental contact in a Marking contest will be permitted if the Player’s sole objective is to contest or spoil a Mark.
  15. From the 2021 Laws Of The Game: 18.5.2 Free Kicks - Marking Contests A field Umpire shall award a Free Kick in a Marking contest against a Player where the Player: (d) makes contact to an opposition Player from front-on and whose sole objective is not to contest or spoil a Mark;
  16. It's not 'deliberate' though, it's 'insufficient intent' to keep the ball in play. Langdon's casual stroll was clearly that. No problem with that free tbh.
  17. It's a blanket statement though. Plenty of journalists 'doing their job' with integrity and ethics.
  18. Depends on your definition of 'doing their job'. Breaking a story about team lineups would very much fall within the journalistic boundaries of an AFL reporter IMO. I'm no Morris fan, but he merely said Hunter wouldn't play due to form. That's 100% footy news. Sure, if there were personal issues or the like it's a different scenario, but that's a very vanilla footy story. Morris even made a point of mentioning it wasn't anything 'discipline related'.
  19. This isn't what footy has come to, surely?
  20. Someone above mentioned they saw Disco in a moon boot, so doesn't sound like he's a chance unfortunately. My perception is he's more of an intercept defender rather than a half back/rebounding type. In saying all that, does anyone know if there's a Casey praccy match this weekend? Probably makes sense to get a feel for that when talking changes.
  21. Rubbish. Reporting on potential team changes happens before pretty much every single game. I can't recall any coach ever saying that 'undermines' their job (aside from Bevo of course). 'Personal gain'? It's his job to report on footy. I mean, Bevo still has a job, Morris not so much... You realize that if posters make overly personal comments or attacks here they very much are denied the right to comment? Sure, but you do it professionally. You don't go for a personal attack on someone who is doing their job.
  22. The first was an audio message he sent. The second was a video where he was basically talking into the camera (phone) making a video message. It 100% wasn't without his knowledge or consent.

Very sketchy rumours going around it's something to do with senior coaches or along those lines.
  24. You think those comments about a co-worker are all fine ('hottest girl at Fox by a long way')? You don't think saying 'unfortunately she has her liquor license and is very very good at it' is derogatory? Turn it up mate. Not ok. Less clear? Context? Not overly racist? Are you serious? 'I'm not Asian, I'm not black, I'm not a woman and I'm not gay, so don't treat me like sh*t. I'm a man...' Not sure what needs to be clarified there.
  25. It's a fair point. Lots of 'whataboutism' creeping in too, which is the old defence tactic, and a few giving the impression it was more that he was caught rather than focusing on what he actually did/said. Personally, I was probably holding off until everything was a bit more confirmed, but given he's been stood down that's probably confirmation enough I suppose. I don't think we need to crucify the bloke as a person, but to not call it out or to even defend it just further entrenches the entitlement which leads to men thinking it's ok to say this stuff. No winners in this whole saga.
