  1. Thats exactly what it was.
  2. Oh how the tides have turned. This disruption so close to game time is not great. Given they have had the main run, what else is usually done around the club between main training session and game day? At least Doggies will be in the same position as us.
  3. Is the mcg booked? It’s our home game is it not?
  4. Our initial approach to COVID is the envy of all countries (with exception to NZ) It has saved countless lives of those that are most vulnerable in our society. Plus we have had the ability to live a relatively normal life for the best part of 6 months now, whilst most other countries are jumping from lockdown to lockdown still with hundreds if not thousands of deaths per day. For this we must applaud the state governments, which were left high and dry by the federal government. If we should be embarrassed about anything it is the vaccination program, which was in the hands of the feds. But even that was due to some bad luck relating to the side effects of the AZ vaccine. We really had no other choice but to put our (vaccine) eggs in that particular basket given the complexities associated with supply chain and manufacturing capability onshore of mRNA vaccines.
  5. I dont think its incompetence - i think it may be related to whether it is lawful.
  6. 9 cases now. Surely there are no crowds at this point.
  7. I don’t think we will get into the long lasting lockdown situation again. Snap lockdowns are more likely and I think we will have one by end of the week I’m afraid. But I’m just an armchair expert so take it with a grain of salt :)
  8. If the prior games this year that were COVID impacted are any indication I think it is more likely to be no crowds than less crowds this weekend.
  9. I meant that more in the sense that they won’t be able to sustain the same level of performance rather than saying the Tigers will give them a serve. Nevertheless I agree with the sentiment
  10. I was think about this the other day as well. But I think it should be extended to be the trio of Gawn, Trac and Oliver. If they can all fire at the same time it is quite a potent combination.

If a trade was possible , would you take De Goey for Weid + 2nd rounder?
  12. Said to a few that the Crows played a very high risk game style. Couple that with high DE is why they were able to look so smooth and transition the ball well and at the end of the day how they got over the line. Can they do that week in / week out? I highly doubt it. They will get a reality check this week against the Tigers.
  13. I think so as well. Why didn’t the umpire ask the boundary umpire for his opinion? This needs to be looked at as a short term change.
  14. Just heard on SEN that the AFL has confirmed the blunder. Not seen an official report yet though.
  15. Not in any of those games has a team not shown up. We have been hunted solid for 9 weeks. I agree that we haven't started a game well in any of those games and say a 7-8 goal first quarter hiding might do just that. But it seems like we are prepared to let the teams take the ascendancy and we then respond accordingly. I cant help but think that this is by design - particularly from a seasonal fitness and injury POV. I'd really like us to bust out of the gates this week and put some scoreboard pressure on the Doggies early.
  16. i have thought about this too. I think it also may have something to do with being undefeated. This brings the challenge to the other teams to be the first one to topple us over. The media wouldn't have helped either by saying we could go 10-0, which brings an unnatural determinism to our games.
  17. This will definitely help but I’m still of the view we need to have technology involved in some capacity. At best we can become like was football (soccer) was 10 years ago and that still had its own controversies. We need superior goal line technology that make a call in < 10 seconds using cameras that were made this century. Also include a fourth and possibly fifth umpire in the booth/arc who can monitor the game for missed or incorrect calls and call back play if necessary. Obviously the kinks need to be worked out but it is has been successful (imv) in how penalty decisions have been managed recently in world football. There will be the purists and traditionalists who will say don’t tinker but they are a dying breed.
  18. Have we got our apology yet? Haven’t seen/heard anything. There’s a lot going on that the deliberate viewed from another angle came off spargo’s hands (which is utter BS) but curious to hear the result.
  19. I stopped reading after the above... I would say it’s actually a blight on the game.
  20. We have got to be kidding ourselves that more resources will solve this problem. It may improve it but it will not resolve it. I think we need to look at some type of technology integration. Simple example is expanding the use of a fourth (fifth?) umpire in the arc by introducing the use of more slow motion capture cameras. Not the old 24 frames per second which are useless on the goal line. Other ideas are rewinding of play back to a missed free or an incorrect call. I believe you could do that without interrupting the play as the arc umpire can examine footage and communicate to the onfield umpire when an intervention is warranted. As an aside I wonder what the betting agencies think of this. Lost a fair bit of dough last night I would have thought. Wonder if they’d pick up the phone to Gil and ask for a please explain?
  21. It only works if you have quality i50 delivery. Otherwise it will rebound out just as quick as it went in.
  22. I get where you are coming from but I think the problem is bigger than the adjudication on game day. Our rules are way too complex for a game that is fast and flowing for an umpire to call it correctly 100% of the time. You’d take that non decision on the chin if it was midway through the game , but as a deciding factor in the end result? Sorry but the AFL is more responsible IMO.
  23. I’m sick and tired of the narrative that the umpiring non decision isn’t why we lost. I get the sentiment but I always call a spade a spade and that non decision was the deciding factor. Yes we were off our game but Adelaide played out of their skins and it took a few bad calls for the game to fall in their favour.
  24. I actually don’t think we have played an easy game yet. Every team has hunted us ever since we beat Richmond. Adelaide were very good against WC in Perth last week and had they had Walker and McHenry would have come very close. We don’t want to be playing our best footy just yet. Still 13 rounds to go.
  25. I got the sense that Viney had a set back in rehab and won’t be back until after bye round - Salem should be back next week according to Goodwin.
