  1. The significance of 9 wins in a row is one thing but being 3 games clear in the top two is equally important. If for example we go 7 - 6 in our remaining 13 games to finish with a modest (on current form) 16 -6 record, any side currently sitting third to seven will need to go 11 - 2 from here on in to gain 17 wins and overtake us. Richmond will need to go 12 -1 to overtake us. The chasing pack all still have to play the following: Brisbane: Richmond (twice), Geelong, West Coast. Port Adelaide: Geelong, Sydney, W Bulldogs. West Coast: Richmond, W Bulldogs, Sydney, Brisbane. Sydney: Port Adelaide, W Bulldogs, West Coast. Geelong: Port Adelaide, W Bulldogs, Brisbane, Richmond Richmond: Brisbane (twice), West Coast, Geelong Any of our games we also win against these opponents effectively become doubly valuable in this context. A 16 win season is likely to see us play an entire finals campaign at the MCG and only have us leave Victoria three times after June 4 until the end of September.
  2. That's good to hear BDA. I'm watching the first half of yesterday's game on Kayo before On The Couch starts so didn't see 360. I do remember Goody once saying that Hoges was 'a Melbourne person' as well though just before we facilitated his move back west.
  3. Hi there Dazzle. No, the talk about Sam took place whilst he was chatting at another table from memory. The consensus being that they'd be disappointed if he didn't stick around for at least another year to see if he can establish himself in the senior team. Particularly with the work the club have put into his development.
  4. Hi Nasher. I was still living in Canterbury, Kent at that time and was over here on holiday for a month. I went to that game and felt the same way as you did that night. The funny thing is that about three months later I was doing the graveyard shift with another guy at the Samaritans (it's a suicide hotline) where I volunteered. During a lull in calls he started to tell me about his recent trip to NZ for his daughter's wedding and that he'd stopped into Melbourne on the way home, spending a week or so here. It turned out he had also been at that same game and I spent the rest of the shift apologising to him for the MFC ruining his trip.
  5. Only now getting the chance to watch the replay and I can see why so many are talking about BT. Between him and James Brayshaw I don't know who is the bigger bellend. Was lucky enough to meet Kelly O'Donnell, Peter (Max) Maynard and Mark Weideman in the bar during the game (a friend of a friend knows them). Not withstanding the horse trading with Adelaide, Rick Lever had pretty much agreed to come to us months before it could actually be announced. It's common knowledge of course that we were into him before he was initially drafted. As for Weids there is little chance he'd end up at Collingwood even if he did want out at seasons end. Their salary cap is still a complete mess apparently. His dad was wearing a Melbourne scarf by the way.
  6. Wouldn't be the worst result to have the Dogs win tonight. Ideally we want to keep any interstate sides out of the top two positions to avoid an away final. If results go our way we can be three games clear in the top two this time tomorrow.
  7. Geez the Q Clash is absolute dross.
  8. Afternoon TC. There'll be no perambulations for me today but the scene you've set sounds divine I have to say. I've never really acquired a taste for whisky or any spirits for that matter but I'd like to include a place called Whisky & Alement in Exhibition St on one of my next post game wanders and perhaps The Elysian on Brunswick St for a pre night game warmer.
  9. Geez, I haven't had one of those in years but they would go down a treat on a day like today. An uncle of mine built a kipper box that he kept at the end of his garden and they were great with some fried potatoes (tatties). You'd need a degree in microsurgery to pick out all the bones though.
  10. Better keep a hold of yer bunnet then if you're heading down there DJ. ??
  11. North of the border it's probably our equivalent of Gayfield Park, where Arbroath play. The Red Lichties ground is perched right next to the cold North Sea so most games are played in a howling gale.
  12. I’m starting to think that it might just be easier for all of our fans to whistle loudly in unison when the opposition play their song instead. It works a treat when they play God Save The Queen at a Scotland v England game at Hampden Park. Maybe we can all get in some practice during the rendition of YNWA on Sunday ;-)
  13. When online DL is pretty much the only Dees related content I engage with / listen to these days. Used to give Deebrief a listen to when it first started but then they started getting a little loud and controversial just for the sake of it I think, maybe as a point of difference. Stopped altogether when they started giving players embarrassing nicknames like Milkshake and Spargy Pants.
  14. As some have already mentioned in this thread I think offering the required financial incentives to get the right back of house staff in the door would be of far greater benefit to them long term. Whatever happened to their famed war chest ?
  15. We’ve arguably struck our best vein of form that any of us can remember yet some are too busy looking for the first signs of the beginning of the end to enjoy it. Smell the roses while you can people.
  16. Unlike some vying for a spot in our 22, Sam is a key position player and will therefore have to wait until that spot is available, either due to injury or the form of either Tom or Ben. It’s the same reason why he’s unlikely to be named as a medical sub.
  17. I hadn't noticed the striped socks until I watched the replay today. Maybe because so many players wear very short ones these days. I can't say it really bothers me for that reason. As far as the article about the clash guernseys go I think that some clubs are taking the p!ss when it comes to this. Primarily Collingwood and to a lesser extent Essendon and Geelong. Commercially I think clubs that don't have alternative guernseys are missing a trick. I really like Richmond's inverted jumper for example as well as the yellow Crows one with the single red and navy blue band across they chest. The Bulldogs had separate white and red clash guernseys that looked good and even the Sturt styled one Carlton had a few years ago wasn't bad.
  18. The post match thread on a Sunday morning with my coffee beats reading any newspaper. Just saying.
  19. We could always park this conversation until next year so we can sing We Are The Champions followed by Simply The Best.
  20. I’m at a bar called Nice Guys in Victoria St, Richmond and literally any song on the mix tape they have on atm could be our anthem. Lots of Stranglers, Madness, The Jam, The Clash, New Order etc. Anyway....back to the pre-game drinks in the sun. See you all at the G later ?
  21. I get a similar feeling when I hear Bullet The Blue Sky off The Joshua Tree album live. Without the running through a brick wall bit though !
  22. Hi there Sharkie. Again though it caters for a particular demographic that likes heavy metal. I didn’t know those bells were from a song until a mate pointed it out to me. When I hear them I’m expecting the cry of “bring out you’re dead ! ” to follow.
  23. I'm moderately confident about this one. Perhaps last week was the close win we needed to have. Make no mistake we'll need to be fully switched on tonight though. I'll be making the most of the day by visiting a new micro brewery down the far end of Victoria St whilst sampling some Vietnamese delicacies enroute to the G so maybe duck for lunch and swan for dinner.
  24. A 1 point win to either side will do me fine. No percentage boost for either and one of them will drop to 4 - 4 for the season and probably see that team need to win 9 of 14 games on the way home to make finals.
  25. Agreed Roy. Despite the motivation to drown out anything sung by Inxs we should have a totally separate anthem that has no links to any overseas football team or even one that is necessarily sports related. I've added a link on my post to our fans singing the Roy Orbison song Penny Arcade which is a cracking tune when sung by 50,000 'bears'. Brentford fans sing Hey Jude before a game which is also really good. YNWA is a lazy option in my eyes and anyone that doesn't like the two teams most associated with it are never going to sing it. Terrific cause though.
