Bad decisions by the dogs if true. They need key defenders & small forwards. Could really strengthen their side to be a contender if they flipped the picks wisely.
Wouldn't shock me if the logic behind Smith was almost a succession plan for 1/2 years while the drafted kid developed the tank required for the position. With Phillips only 24 you'd be 'stuck' with him should you pick up a good kid in the draft at the same position.
Maybe I'm giving the club too much credit here - but perhaps they don't like the idea of adding a second winger who is an average kick - so they'll simply draft one who is a good one?
