Read the article. If you prefer to believe Caro made it up out of thin air that’s your prerogative. I don’t. https://amp.theage.com.au/sport/afl/gary-pert-s-resurrection-a-contentious-call-at-melbourne-20180629-p4zojn.html “The old Melbourne guard - a vocal and gregarious group of former committeemen, coterie and old Melburnians (the school not the club) - were loud in their condemnation that Bartlett had recruited a Collingwood discard. Admittedly many of this group have had their time at board level with underwhelming results but many still give generously to the club. Ditto the Demons' most influential past players and ditto a long list of other club CEOs who have great respect for the achievements of the outgoing Peter Jackson and were dismayed that Jackson had been totally shut out of the search for his successor. Internally in the weeks that led up to and then followed the Pert announcement, Bartlett and his board and notably his influential director Geoff Freeman were confronted with spot fires in a number of directions. Three club executives - George de Crespigny, David Chippindall and the internal favourite Josh Mahoney - were in for the job and initially the view was that the club was looking at a succession plan. Mahoney had strong support from his own department - coach Simon Goodwin said so publicly at the start of June much to the chairman's chagrin - and Mahoney's colleagues were extremely disappointed on his behalf when he didn't get the job.”

Why is it ‘trolling’ to suggest there may be a link between documented coterie and inner sanctum discontent at the Pert appointment ... and our extraordinary plummet to the foot of the ladder? You might not subscribe to the theory and that’s fine but again, don’t be frightened of posters who don’t always play to the chorus line you want them to. That’s just plain weak. When someone states an opinion, show maturity and refute it with logic. Or don’t post at all.

Use the ignore function. Then you can live in your bubble without having to read views you disagree with. Problem solved.

Read my post #26 to ProDee. Same applies to you.

We have gone from prelim finalist to wooden spoon fancy in seven games. There were clear rumblings of discontent when Pert was appointed. And now we have inner sanctum staff (Misson) publicly pointing fingers, covering hides and attempting to deflect blame now that things have gone pear shaped. No scapegoats. Just facts. To say that Demonland posters are responsible for these issues ... well, it’s real ‘ding dong Drysdale’ stuff.

We are mentally weak more than physically weak. Hawks roll into the season without their Brownlow medalist, Scully underdone, no Birchall, Burgoyne and Frawley under injury clouds. Yet there they are again knocking on the door of the eight getting the job done. Richmond missing big stars, still got their foot on the gas with no let up. Not at Melbourne. Send a few blokes out for minor surgeries in October and we soil the bed. Pathetic.

Sorry, missed your question. Media revelations confirmed my personal sources.

A point well made. This concerns me too Bezelbub. We seem to be following a shop worn pattern of 'follow the leader' instead of taking it upon ourselves to chart our own course. There is a reason movie sequels generally adhere to the 'law of diminishing returns'. To the innovator go the spoils, rarely the copycat.
-
As Bezelbub alluded to, some people need their A-B-C cards held up in front of their face at every turn. Others instinctively learn to spell very quickly. You don’t plummet this quickly and drastically without causes. Off field causes need to be looked at too, as uncomfortable as that may be for some.
-
Calling people who hold contrary views to you "morons" does nothing for your credibility. Mount sensible arguments or don't post at all.
-
Rarely is anything obvious. But use your radar detector. There were rumblings. Noses have been put out of joint. It was not the way Jackson wanted his and Roos' legacy handled.
-
You have a very limited understanding of organisations and hierarchies holding that view. If the energy in the top office is not right it can flow very quickly onto performance on the field. Very quickly.

Hard to pot that decision OldDee. Coming off more linear improvement and finals wins, Adelaide looming as a club that might poach him et. Reappointment as a vote of confidence was fair enough heading into 2019. But three years was the poor decision. Two was more than enough.

Can't put my finger on it but there is something about Pert's manner and energy that I don't think is resonating well at the MFC. Smart man, highly professional and all that but there's a key ingredient missing. Just one of those people who's hard to warm to.

Had to move Hogan on OldDee. The lad had/has severe off field issues the likes of which have only been alluded to in the media. Plus he consistently went missing in big games for the Dees. Plus he wanted to return home. Still only averaging 1 goal a game at Freo this year. It's true though that we are structurally hamstrung without a genuine gorilla forward of quality to straighten up the side. Need to get one as priority no.1 in the off season. Your other points are more than valid, especially re Jackson and Pert. Jackson not wanting Pert is very telling.
-
Of course they did. That's not the discussion. The discussion was about the quality of their recruiting from other clubs. Some posters opined that it's a 50/50 hit and miss rate across all clubs. Clearly that's not true.Under Clarkson Hawthorn have shot the lights out 80-90% of the time. If they believe Patton is going to make a successful comeback, so should we.

Mods this discussion is already going in the Sack Everyone Mega thread.

Yuk. No thank you. Goes to water under pressure.

You’re only as good as your last CEO job. Left Collingwood under a cloud and since his arrival at MFC has presided over an unmitigated disaster in a few short months. Like everyone else at the club, he’s accountable.
-
Nope. Melbourne fan. But also a fan of success. How about you?
