  1. Much of the modern narrative is that way. I have been brought up to believe that it is a very sad and poignant celebration about and for the whole community.
  2. Talked to a MFC volunteer last night. He tells me they are training on Gosch's paddock, Wednesday and Friday. He didn't give me a time. Possibly, Wednesday at 11.30 am (they have been recently coming out at this time after the morning review), and Friday captain's run at 9.30 am. No training out at Casey because of the quick turn around.
  3. Good sentiment, though I see Anzac day as a time to reflect on the futility of war. I see remembrance day (11 Nov) as more of a time to thank those who served. Wish we didn't have to have a defence force, and when active, the displacement and suffering of civilians is very sad indictment of our madness. The pain of losing and maiming, (especially the psychological) a family member who served, is devastating. I think the soldiers know and ask, why? Especially when at that time, our foreign policy was controlled by another country. It is how that defeat became a nation definer to us and New Zealand. Lest we forget.
  4. Loved our fight and our second half. Although our contested possessions and tackling was less than the Tiges, we were able to stop their ball movement. In the first half they got the ball out the back of the pack and had time to find links, spread and corridors. We seemed to adjust and got our half forward game going, holding it in, getting multiple entries, and halved their attempts to counter-attack. The Tiges left the game and lowered their heads after missing goals. The old Tiges are done, could be the last time we see the magnificent Martin. Riewold, Cotchin and Grimes are also lowering the colours. Great that JVR could do it in the last, and what a stage to execute. I think he was led by Petty, who started marking in the high forward area in the last quarter. JVR, then said, watch this. Kossie looks to be playing for himself. Has he moved interstate already? The ball user would often take that extra step, invite the pressure and lose our synch/connection, but we kept pushing and scrambled well. May's struggling, haven't seen him lose the feet so regularly, or not finding his balance after wrestling for position and not taking those marks. Our defence continues to structure very well, with their communication, pointing and setting the field. Don't like that we play straight, very little change of angles as we go forward, and those bombs, which looked like a game plan. Need to increase our tackling, contested footy and one-percenters. Too many turnovers. We still have a great transitional game, and some players read the game so well (Lever, Hibbo, Hunter, Oliver). We also seemed to nullify their players when they started getting dominant. Good role players, ANB, Sparrow, Rivers, McVee, Brayshaw. Not sure about using inexperienced players as the Sub. Laurie had trouble getting into the game. Much prefer an old head. Happy about our win and ability to take and hold the momentum after half-time.
  5. I thought Deever meant, without him will there be much difference.
  6. Does that mean, sell the house and move the immediate family to Gold Coast or maybe Tasmania.
  7. METRO TRAINS DISRUPTIONS Buses replace trains on sections of the Hurstbridge, Belgrave, Lilydale and Glen Waverley lines at various times on Monday April 24. Passengers should allow extra time when travelling to and from the MCG. Please be aware after the game there may be increased congestion and delays getting onto the platforms at Richmond and Jolimont stations. Passengers are advised to return to where they got off the bus prior. [Go to this ptv link to understand your travel.] For further information and to plan your journey at ptv.vic.gov.au. 8. I hope our losses are due to being a home ground (MCG fortress) team now (struggling as away team), and we get the best out of our players on the MCG. Would love us to unbeatable on the hallowed turf. That will set us up for a great finals series, so long as as we make them and get the home ground matches. When we play good footy and do it for the four quarters we are more than competitive with any other team. I get a sense, they don't like losing. Would hate for us to over try, lose our rhythm, not find the "zone" and end up as individuals pushing and not a team jelling. I want to see us run them off their legs, swarm in attack, hunt, get and spread, then make great connection. The other thing is, be in the contest, as I think it is bad footy, when we sit back and let the opponents get to the ball first with very little pressure. C'mon backs, miserly best. Forwards to take their opportunities. Mids to transition well when turnovers happen, get more contested possessions and clearances than the Tiges. Not too much to ask! Go Dees

  10. "They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them." I always associate this night with the part of the ode, "At the going down of the sun", and leading to the dawn service. The beginning of reflection. The ceremony and people's energy, is amazing and so heart filled.
  11. I've only read your "fire back", as a challenge to debate. Haven't read a word where you do personal attacks. Some are very defensive/protective of our players, and know many players families read demonland. My advice would be to do twice as many positive opinions as honest negative one's. WCW is a sweet person, if you also show the positive, I think she would be more supportive. Her feedback showed that, when you were positive about one of my posts.
  12. He likes biting back, if we treat him kindly then the discussion is unlikely to be about the personal. As he said a few times, "debate his opinion" not his scathing remarks, and I think you will find a reasonable intelligence.
  13. 3165 needs a bit of support and he will give positive feedback as well as his honest opinions. Certainly dislikes personal hits. He reads and knows the game well, I like his opinions and he is brave enough to put alternative perspectives out there.
  14. Dunstan missed some quite simple hit ups. Those turnovers will kill us at AFL level. Sparrow has a good kick, and is getting better the more his confidence rises. Agree, that he appears to be struggling, but he may be playing his team role well. At the captain's run today, they were using Tom as an outside runner/ball receiver (unusual, as he is usually in and under/around). Dunstan is good for the development of young players, like Woey and AMW, at those stoppages.
  15. Was in the squad for the AFL captain's run. Chance he is the sub.
  16. BBB had difficulty causing defensive pressure. His best efforts would be spreading his arms out and kind of zoning an area making the opponent with the ball have only 180 ° of exit. He looked a lot taller than any of the Tigers backs. Should have dominated and missing set shots without much angle is bad footy. Didn't appear to be much wind out at Casey given that a kite was flying above the field. Need to want to win and not just be satisfied if they want to be AFL. Competitiveness is a must. Best players don't even like losing at tiddlywinks.
  17. Played a good 1st half, and I thought the same thing, but left in the second. Consistency is needed, especially at the level he is playing.
  18. I thought D.Turner turned the game and momentum, by those intercepts in the third. Played a good game in a dysfunctional backline. They couldn't zone well as they let the opponents get to the ball first and very few attacking moves that came off, (couldn't find a corridor). Tomlinson needs some confidence, his leadership and structural set up down back appeared to suffer, as well as his poor decision making, slipping over and switching off. He usually dominates and supports D.Turner very well at this level.
  19. We really missed those hard bodied and experienced VFL players, Munro, Buntine, and Baldi. Wow, BBB not taking his opportunity from straight out infront, though not the only one. We have a few AFL listed players who will have to lift/develop their game, if they want to be AFL standard. Jefferson, Adams, AMW, D.Smith, Farris-White. Some terrible field kicking and missed opportunities killed us. Nearly stole it.
  20. Where's Moniz-Wakefield and D.Smith when the ball hits the ground and the game is on the line. Harmsy!
  21. Jed Adams needs more development How long is this third quarter
  22. Still in touch, with that Sestan (Grey) goal. (Commentator getting the name wrong)
  23. Tomlinson having a shocker. Dropped the mark, then no follow up, turned his back on play and opponent moved through the space he could've been guarding. Lost his feet many times. Harmes trying hard, D.Turner intercepting well. They don't seem invested in it. Chasing and getting beaten to the ball.
